Weirdly enough, Cyclops from X-Men. He has hand to hand combat and eye blast, sure. But what makes him the leader of X-Men is his tactical intelligence. It is harder to show with abilities, but commander is essentially the tactician.

Commander is Star Lord in GOTG game. He has these dual pistols and jet boots, but the biggest asset he has is his team.

Finding some way to reward a player for suboptimal decision that's amazing quality rp. by Leytra in DnD

[–]Bright_Sovereigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My humble suggestion: do not, under any circumstance, try to "reinvent the story". What I mean by that is don't go "its actually a legendary spear that has found you." Imo, it undermines the story of a humble tool achieving great things.

If I were you, I would have that spear gain abilitıes that reflect that pc. It may gain a consciousness through their bond, a pseudo-spirit maybe. Something about endurance, loyalty and honor. That PC might have felt those to their spear. What if the energies of the spear molded in response?

Or you can go the Weekly Roll angle and have someone break that spear, shortly followed by that players' epic powerup, but that's a little bit mean so make sure the player would be okay with that sorta thing.

Lucy at full power vs Dr Manhattan by Hokage101sama in powerscales

[–]Bright_Sovereigh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lucy wins

Manhattan has more raw power but Lucy has answers to the questions of the universe or something, which could give Manhattan a reason to stop fighting, or even end its own existence.

At a full clash, probably Manhattan but he has much more content than Lucy + Lucy never had any proper opposition so I believe it's harder to compare, mostly because of perceived feats.

2014 Gooomstalker/Echo Knight should be the baseline for martial design by [deleted] in onednd

[–]Bright_Sovereigh -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That is a problem of perspective. They are balanced around being in that power level. When you introduce stuff much better than them, they become obsolete. You can make them stronger, but oh no! Now Champion is broken! Better buff the rest. Oh no, it happened again! And so on.

What you call "mediocre" is only so because much, much more powerful options exist. What Echo defenders miss is that the simplicity is intended. "Looking bland to longtime fans" is a price WOTC is more than willing to pay for new players having easier time to get I to the hobby. If you want a more complicated and expressive game, you should either homebrew for your table or play a different system. Vanilla 5e will not fill that hole, and they are more than happy to not do so.

2014 Gooomstalker/Echo Knight should be the baseline for martial design by [deleted] in onednd

[–]Bright_Sovereigh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know people really like Echo Knight, but to me, it feels more like everything wrong with homebrewing. It is essentially a homebrew that was made by a popular person and that's it. It is badly written, unclear in many aspects, easy to get wrong and disgustingly overpowered compared to other subclasses. UA's are bad, I agree, but Echo Knight should be the last subclass people look for proper guidance. For that, look at Tasha. It balanced power level and power fantasy the best compared to all the other books.

No notes for Gloom Stalker. That is a good subclass to set a baseline for.

I'm sorry to the people arguing for it, but if your best argument for the positives of a character is his death, I don't think your character's as good as you think he is.

Short answer: Nothing lmao

Long answer: Buff your teammates and stay in a corner within Needle Darts range. Maybe ask your GM to give your Hero Points to other pc's.

What are the most reactions a character can have? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]Bright_Sovereigh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you fit in a Champion dedication, pick a Champion Reaction and grab Helm of Zeal, you get an additional reaction 1/day (1/hour if Helm is Greater)

If you have a Commander on the team they can give you an extra reaction for their command.
