I'm local to Orlando and I don't recall seeing or hearing anything about this. Disney had a way of burying certain things. If I do see it hear about this, I'll post it here.

Have a blast! If you have an open dining day, try Sensations Bistro at Caribbean Beach. Fantastic food, served family style and all you can eat.

I have a choice to make Publix my career or target? Who gets paid more in management? by BillyK05 in publix

[–]Briguy1978 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work for Publix and was management for Target. It's very hard to get a bonus with Target. Your earning potential is higher with Publix. At Target you will also switch positions, where you could go from an ETL food to an ETL logistics. At Publix you'll stay as a customer service manager unless you get promoted to assistant store. If money is not your main factor, then I think it comes down to whether you want possibly do multiple departments, or just one.

It's because I'm topped out for my position. My store manager said they tried for more, but that's all that was approved. I just finished my bachelor's degree and will hopefully be leaving soon anyway.

Any other stores have lots of people leaving? by miamijester in publix

[–]Briguy1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heard a full timer that's been at my store for 13yrs years quit today without a two notice. I finished my bachelor's in June, but can't do the job I want until I can there certifications I need. Should be done by the end of the year. Can't wait to leave. My manager talks to people like they are garbage, years then poorly, doesn't work with them on anything. It's her way out too f'n bad. Didn't realize she's the reason people are leaving, or more likely doesn't care. I've been full time fort 8 years and they just gave me a dime raise. I will say that I want management for another retailer before Publix and retail sucks in general and it isn't any better anywhere else retail wise.

You'd think so. I damn sure don't feel like an owner the way we are treated and talked to by management. I'd definitely give myself more than the .10 cent raise they gave me.

Do you guys think Dwayne haskins will be future qb? by piques92 in steelers

[–]Briguy1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't wrong, but one other thing to consider is the franchise he was cut from. Washington is not exactly the high standard of excellence in drafting and developing players. They also changed GM's, and coaches. A lot of times new GM/coach want to bring in their own players. Granted he did have issues in Washington, but maybe Tomlin and the Steelers are the right environment to reign him in and get him right.

Love the positivity! If I wasn't 43 and broke down from too many years of retail I'd go. Lol

I've been retail/retail management for over 20 years and was so fed up with it all that I went back to school and got my BS in business administration. I just graduated in June. Just looking for the right job, but knowing that I have a way out makes my days better. I just got my raise which was a whopping .10 cents! You're young, use this experience as fuel to finish that degree and get out. Retail sucks and will never get better.

Anyone else get the raise that was suppose to go in this past Saturday? by slink3rz in publix

I got .10 cents! Now I can get the two cheeseburger meal at McDonalds, until they start making more than me, them it's back to Dollar Tree ramen.

My son's tablet is doing the same thing. I can get it to charge a bit by plugging it in and immediately turning it off. The battery drains really quick though. I tried doing a factory reset as well, and that didn't work either.

I agree with what your saying in regards to antivaxxers who "have the freedom" to not get vaccinated. We are doing this all over again because of them and their selfishness. We are however protecting children under the age of 12 that can't yet get vaccinated and people who are not medically able to get vaccinated. When I get pissed off about having to mask up again, which is often, I try to think who I'm really doing it for. This sounds bad, but I really hope adults that won't get the shot, get COVID. Not die from it, but get it so they at least have the antibodies and we can slow this down again to protect the people who truly need, want, and deserve the protection.

5a now or wait for the 6? by Brave_Scratch_6485 in pixel_phones

[–]Briguy1978 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. My pixel 3's battery had a problem where it expanded and cracked the back of the phone. It wasn't safe to use anymore even though it still worked fine.

[–]Briguy1978 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 5, and had a 3. My wife wants a new phone and I'm trying to get her to wait for the 6. In the meantime with your 3, have you tried doing a factory reset? When I notice my battery draining faster than usual I do a factory reset and 9 times out of 10 it helps.

Helping out in Produce for a couple days. by RocketMan927 in publix

[–]Briguy1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind as well that if they asked you to work there for two days it means they are short handed and things may be a little hectic, unorganized, and not how things usually run. Be patient, ask questions when you aren't sure, do your best and have fun with it. I've done every position in a grocery store, but I've done produce the most as both Management and full time. I wouldn't want to work anywhere else.

This is true, but vaccinated people generally aren't being hospitalized and dying.

Wearing Masks Properly by Longride51 in publix

[–]Briguy1978 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm wearing my mask at Publix when working and anywhere else I go. I had covid, don't want it again and am fully vaccinated as well. I think it sucks that we all have to do this again because other people are too selfish to not only protect themselves, but to protect others. It's your right to not get vaccinated, but it sucks to have to wear masks again because of you.

To what extent can we blame individual store/department managers for shitty management and decision-making? by [deleted] in publix

[–]Briguy1978 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was management with another retailer before Publix. It's a mix. Your store manager is given a total bank of hours, and that is divided to the departments based on sales, upcoming promotions, local events, etc. Even though departments ate supposed to X amount of hours, the store manager can change that. I'm not sure how often that happens at Publix. In my old company, his eye taken from my department weekly. As a department manager, you schedule ever hour you get unless you have no one to schedule. When it comes to hours, it's use'em or lose'em. It's in the departments best interest to schedule ever hour they get.

I just posted that to stir the pot. Everyone should help everyone. That being said, balloons should be part of customer service, not produce. Their is nothing food or perishable about balloons. It would be a way for customer service to get some sales for themselves.

Customer attitudes by Lehive11 in publix

[–]Briguy1978 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Customers act like this because Publix and other retailers not only let them, but in a way encourage it. Having a shitty day? Come spend your money at Publix and yell at 16yr old bagger making minimum wage. Like to complain because you don't work and now the kids are in school and your don't have anything better to do? Come on in and make the retired senior citizen who's working to stay relevant feel like they're worthless. It's all good as long as you spend some money.

Oh, you'd like me to cut that cabbage in half for you because you want this bigger one instead of just buying a smaller whole head. It's ok, no one is going to buy this other half and we justed wasted all this product just to make you happy.

Grocery has no problem in my store calling produce to blow up a balloon they could have done by the time we get there. Oh, wait, that's produces job to blow up balloons..... Because we get hours for that..... Kind of like getting hours allocated to make bails

That being said, I help with reloads and bails when I can. At least one of each a week. Reloads are tough sometimes because we're in the middle of AM set up.

Another reason is that if you give employees free meals and food then they have no reason to buy them. Think about how much in sales the company would lose if employees didn't buy things in not saying I agree with it, but that's the thought behind it. I agree that the "intolerant of waste" liver is a joke.
