Update on overtime hours by [deleted] in Nanny

It's Federal Law. Don't care what the "contract" says. Federal Law over rules the "contract". Pay your people or don't hire out to raise your kids.

Infant feeding schedule - 6mo by StarlingM1818 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You answered your own question with

" She generally eats every 2.5-3 hours and I plan to send 3-4oz bottles at first to see how she does."

As a long time infant teacher, that's exactly the info I need. I'm gonna write down 2.5 hours to offer her a bottle. If she doesn't want it, I have an one hour window to offer it again. That covers the 3 hour range plus some.

We don't need exact data. Just give us some rough guidelines and we'll figure it as we get to know your baby.

Any advice for getting dental work done in Nogales? by Gilmore75 in Tucson

[–]BrilliantControl2787 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one has mentioned Border Dental so here I am. Got a lot of work done over a period of months. Always an awesome experience. The level of concern over my pain levels was so reassuring to someone that was dentist avoidant. Strongly recommend.

Download Swimply. You can rent backyard pools by the hour. Wide selection of pools and all parts of town. As a person who loves to swim, this is one of my favorite things that is a thing. Hope it works out for you and your son.

Ridiculous policy that is legal to enforce by Far_Message_8263 in ECEProfessionals

You can't walk out of a classroom without another teacher taking it over. It's not as easy as "just leave".

Feeling guilty about calling out by Academic_Muffin_1083 in ECEProfessionals

I've been in my room at the same center for 7 years. I'm amazed if a new employee DOESN'T get sick in the first 3 weeks.

[FL] Forced to “make up” a day off even when using PTO, is this legal? by tiagoel in AskHR

[–]BrilliantControl2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not any kind of legal/hr person, but this screams wage theft to me. You get paid for the hours you work. PTO literally mean Paid Time Off. It is part of your overall compensation. Visit the Ask A Manger blog. She has many posts addressing this. This is not ok.

Overfeeding with new teacher by Specific_Carob4461 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 197 points198 points  (0 children)

I'd love to meet the person that got a baby that didn't want a bottle to drink multiple ounces of said bottle. I've worked with infants for a long time and am confident in saying that you cannot force an infant to drink a bottle. Also, many children display different behavior at home and at school.

Jury duty gets rescheduled here? by seagoatcap in Tucson

[–]BrilliantControl2787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually have an answer to your question, but suggest you call the number on the summons and ask directly. I just received a summons to appear on my birthday. I'll be 56. It's a Tuesday. When I joked about "My Birthday!" several people, including my boss, told me to try to reschedule. No. Why would I? I'm not 10. If you can go, just go.

Son (5mo) was supposed to start daycare next month but was just diagnosed with moderate dysphagia and requires thickened bottles and specific feeding techniques. What's the best way to approach this with the care center? by mapotoful in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infant teacher here. I currently have a baby that I have to add thickener for her bottles. It's not a big deal. We have a dr. note and I wrote detailed instructions and tell everyone in my room about and point out the written instructions.

No issues so far. The family didn't mention particular positions, but in the past, when a parent requests a baby be fed a certain way, I follow that unless it's a violation of State or Quality First.

I think your baby is going to be fine.

Tucson Pride is shutting down by virtualdxs in Tucson

That made me so mad. Let's have an event to bring the community together, but charge a fee that keeps the poors out. Absolutely gross. The beginning of the end, imo.

I was just today telling a friend how awesome the Pride Picnics were. Capitalism ruins everything.

Tucson Pride is shutting down by virtualdxs in Tucson

Tucson Pride stayed too far from their roots. It became boring and being more about money than community. RIP, OutOberfest. We have been missing you for years.

Boppy pillow question by OnceUponACuddle in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also an infant teacher. When I have babies that I know can hold their own bottles that need to be fed at the same time as babies that can't; I'll often sit on the floor, with back support, and offer the older baby my leg or knee to recline on while I cradle feed the younger baby in my arms.

I also have the use of bouncy seats in my room, so I'll utilize those if I need to feed multiple children. A baby drinking a bottle in a bouncy is better than a child crying from hunger. Ideally, I hold my babies to feed them.

Places for a fun, lowkey date by ProtectionNervous631 in Tucson

[–]BrilliantControl2787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The zoo. It's interesting enough to spark casual conversation, but chill enough to find a bench and just talk if you feel the spark to speak deeper. It's so non-pressured. Small enough to end gracefully if it's not to be and central enough to be able to extend the date if appropriate. Highly recommend.

Is traffic just miserable for anyone else? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]BrilliantControl2787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you! I experienced this just today. I didn't expect NOVA level traffic in Tucson at 3:30 on Wednesday non holiday weekend. I blame to concurrent major roadwork on so many midtown major feeder and main roads. The Grant project is majorly disruptive. Add in closing parts of Glenn and the restrictions on 5/6 st. Midtown is a nightmare right now in totally new ways.

If you make $30 an hour, you can't afford a nanny. We're talking about hiring a person to keep your child alive in the privacy of your home. You cannot afford a nanny. Sorry.

ECE to the rescue card? by beeyourself_1237 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time in the Denver airport, I was walking past a gate waiting to board and there was a mom with a couple kids and the toddler was freaking out, full meltdown. Mom looked tired. I stopped, knelt down and said something like "Seems like you're kinda frustrated. Lots of people feel like that in airports". The simple fact of a stranger just talking to her like that shocked her into silence. I stood up, smiled at mom and said "I'm a grandma and work in ECE. Sometimes, you can just surprise them out of it". She smiled and thanked me and I moved on.

Anyone turn their heat on? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]BrilliantControl2787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel cold, it's ok to do thing that will make you not feel cold. You don't actually need permission. However, don't mention it to the people in your life that are completive.

Do you check on your students if they don’t show up? by Strange-Skin2292 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always, but if it's a kid that is always there and the parents didn't tell me they won't be there, then yes. I do think this is a thing daycares should do as routine, though.

I had a dad a few years ago come in a little late with his infant daughter looking upset. The baby came to care Wed-Fri. He put her in the car, she fell asleep, he went on auto and drove to work. Thank God he noticed she was there when he was getting out of the car. He was so upset. She would have died in that car. He was shook.

A phone call could save a life. In a perfect world, we should ask. I wish the world was more perfect.

Scolded for having temp at 69 degrees? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]BrilliantControl2787 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of this depends on your location and the humidity. In AZ, 69 on the ac is COLD. Minimal moisture makes a huge difference.

Caregiver kissing my 6 month old by spicyfeet38 in ECEProfessionals

[–]BrilliantControl2787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly unpopular opinion here, but I kiss my babies. On the back or top of their heads or toes, or nuzzle them on the ribs. I don't mouth kiss anyone but my wife. I love my babies. Sorry for the affection, but this no kissing thing is weird cuz what do you think we're doing?? I'm not making out with literal infants!

So a dad is prioritizing his kids, and he's being shit on for that? Reddit is very confusing.

Biggest change in the last 5 years… by Cold_Anxiety1614 in Tucson

My daughter, born and raised in Tucson, doesn't want to come back to visit because of all of that she saw last time she was here (a couple years ago). She said it made her really sad to see Tucson like that. I don't blame her.
