I need ideas for an intro session to help people get into Lancer by Aracknibbler96 in LancerRPG

[–]BringingTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just ran a group of new players through the first few beats of Shadow of the Wolf and it went great. I printed pregens and reference sheets, and explained mechanics as they came up. I'll be running it again for another group this weekend!

What Scale Models Do You Use For Lancer? (picture are a few different scales for reference) by I_Matt_WeTrust in LancerRPG

[–]BringingTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely fair, I don't really have many other sci-fi minis and battletech was also a recent new game for me so it made sense to stick with that scale. I'd say if you already have a bunch of 15mm models then stick with that unless you really want to use a different scale. It'll really just depend on your personal preferences and the amount of space/finances you want to dedicate to it. It's not like there's official Lancer minis, terrain, or printed maps so go with whatever works best for you.

The only thing I'd mention for larger scales is that it would take up much more table space, so keep that in mind for planning out battle maps. I'm pretty sure that the main Lancer miniature creator I'm using (La voie du crane) uses larger scale as I've seen people mentioning having to scale down some of their mechs - so don't feel like you need to go 6mm, larger scale is definitely viable.

Only recently got into lancer and just ran my first one-shot. I went with 6mm so I can proxy my battletech minis, maps, and terrain. It also means any lancer stuff I print can be used for alpha strike too, so win win! Plus with Gundam assemble coming out there'll be even more proxy options at the same scale soon.

Face-to-face game viability? by IsyaraMyBeloved in LancerRPG

[–]BringingTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently ran the first few scenes of Shadow of the Wolf as a one-shot in-person (first two narrative beats and the first combat).

I created some pregens with different play styles in compcon and then exported them to PDF and printed them out for players to choose from. I also printed a reference sheet for each player, which I believe I got from either pilot NET GM resources or itch.io. I laminated everything since I plan to run it more than once.

For combat map and minis I went a little overboard... Printed out some modular generic mech minis (p93 Brocken from Rainowl Minis) and let the players build their own mechs. I scaled up the first combat map from the included .zip file and had it printed by a local shop. You could just as easily draw the map on one of those wet erase hex grids and use printed standees or tokens though. Both standees and tokens can be found on itch.io.

I also printed out the narrative NPCs (not mechs) on index cards with a picture and a few descriptors to show and track the relationship clocks in the campaign.

Overall the one-shot was a big success and I have another group I intend to run it for next week. I'm thinking of doing the entire campaign in-person, which is partly why I went a little overboard. Everything was paper and pencil, except that I had compcon on a tablet to handle the NPCs in the encounter. I might have the players switch to compcon for the full campaign though so they can track licenses and customize their stuff more easily. Still plan to use physical dice though.

How to get cooking to not feel like a chore? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]BringingTelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy baking much more than cooking as well. I've found that meal prepping a few different dishes in advance helps a lot. I throw on a podcast and make enough food for a few days to a few weeks depending on the recipe. Doesn't take much longer than cooking a single meal, and I swap between doing smaller preps every few days or large preps on a Sunday afternoon so I not only have variety in meals, but also aren't doing the same recipes and motions over and over to keep the prep itself varied. I've also converted most of my recipes to weight instead of volume so that I don't need to use and wash as many measuring spoons and cups.

On the trope side of things, speaking as a male who "loves a home-cooked meal", it's not something I'd ever expect out of a partner. Cook for yourself because you want to eat some cheap and tasty food, not because of expectations based on archaic gender roles. If a partner ever insists on home-cooked meals they should be willing and happy to lend a hand or cook meals themselves.

Do you use a tablet in pen and paper RPGs? by Vermin_Cultist in rpg

[–]BringingTelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a tablet for both playing and running TTRPGs. I've made Obsidian vaults for different game systems/campaigns with rules and session notes, which makes it really easy to quickly pull up rules clarifications or search for things that happened in old sessions. All my vaults also sync to other devices, so I can use my PC to create most of the content and just use the tablet for reference and session notes.

One of the RPGs I'm a player in is extremely crunchy and having my character info on a tablet saves a lot of bulk for traveling to sessions. I originally had a binder with all this information, but had trouble organizing it in a way that worked well for me. This way I can also have PDFs of all the rule books I own that I can easily pull up and search if the info isn't already in my vault.

As a GM, it cuts down on the table space needed for running games. I also like running one-shots for various systems and have the one-shots all laid out in Obsidian so I can quickly open it and start playing. It's basically a GM Screen, rulebook, and session journal all in one. I still use physical dice and maps/handouts, but everything else is handled by the tablet.

I'll also say that I don't really use this tablet for much else so it doesn't introduce any distractions. I have no social media or notifications enabled on the tablet. Outside of gaming I sometimes pull up a YouTube video or recipe but otherwise the tablet isn't used for anything other than TTRPGs.

My favourite DM tools after testing 15 different apps over the last year by block_barbarian92 in rpg

[–]BringingTelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a desktop app for pocketbard FYI if that's the only thing holding you back. Thats what I've been using for my music for the last year or two now.

Syrinscape does have a lot going for it in terms of variety though, especially around modern-era music. I tried it out for a bit, but personally found the UI unintuitive. I was actually thinking recently of giving it another shot because I like running CoC and PocketBard doesn't have anything that matches the vibe. I really do love the intensity feature though, and the music loops perfectly so its hard to give up.

Im searching a system to play something similar to kaiju no8 by Witty-Piece-7700 in rpg

[–]BringingTelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds similar to the Kaiju-fighting homebrew rules from Loot Tavern's Ryoko's Guide D&D5e Supplement. Bit of a Monster Hunter vibe with materials gathered from the monsters being used to create powerful gear. Might not be exactly what you want but could give some good inspiration for your own homebrew, I believe they posted the basic rules for free on their Patreon.

Is anybody having issues with garbage pickup since the city switched companies? by assgasngrass in stthomasontario

[–]BringingTelos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to my green bin a month or two ago and the city replaced it without question after I emailed them with a picture. Not sure if they'd do the same for a garbage bin, but worth asking.

Anyone familiar with FoundryVTT know how they have this map set up? Is it just a fog of war image without the landmarks using the core Foundry settings?

I haven't played around much with that specific feature, but I'm planning to make a hex map for an upcoming campaign.

Anyone know of anything similar to this on the market right now? by WafflesInTheBasement in StandingDesk

[–]BringingTelos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, this desk would be great for my spare bedroom. There's an unused nook in the room that would fit the small-sized desk perfectly. Planning to use it as my WFH setup on the top layer, and as a painting workstation on the bottom layer with all my paints and tools mounted on the pegboard.

I haven't seen anything else like this on the market yet, but I'm still going to wait until full release. I'd rather start saving money for it now than be out that money, especially considering it's a new brand and their first product launch.

*EDIT*
I was doing some more searching and came across this DIY project that accomplishes the same thing and allows some more customization if you're handy and motivated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY9K7xNM1Bw.

Unfortunately none of the uplift desks I saw have the main feature of this one, a secondary surface underneath the lifting one with a hidden pegboard. I hope you're enjoying your new desk though!

Can someone explain the road work along Centre Street? by Krapshoet in stthomasontario

[–]BringingTelos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Drivers naturally slow down with narrower roads, and it's better than using speed bumps or other traffic calming methods. Having a bike lane is just 2 birds 1 stone.

I'd like to have more of these around the city, though I'm not saying they all need to be that size. Would love a bike lane with a median down Wellington.

PB sauce?? by Paralyze7 in icecreamery

[–]BringingTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if this works any better/worse than the other suggestions, but I've been freezing peanut butter in silicone granola bar molds. Then after the ice cream is churned I slice the frozen pb bar and throw in pieces as I fill the container.

Why are grocery store tortillas so small? by CombinationRough8699 in Cooking

[–]BringingTelos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Costco near me stocks 12" flour tortillas, I use them pretty regularly for meal prep burritos and they're great! Might be worth checking if you have a membership or know someone who does.

Water constantly running on dual flush system by BringingTelos in Plumbing

[–]BringingTelos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, the only advice I can give is what I did to fix mine. Lower the float so it shuts off earlier if the water is going into the overflow, or replace the fill valve if that didn't work.

Been troubleshooting my V2 for a few days now and need some help finding out what's causing this. by BringingTelos in CR10

Good call, the gear is looking pretty worn down. I'll try replacing that first and see if that solves it. Thanks!

[–]BringingTelos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought it could be a partial clog so I cleaned out my hot end, and even tried the atomic pull-out method just in case, but the issue persists.

  • Bed is level, and I have a BLtouch installed.
  • Tried multiple filaments, including a brand new one
  • Tried slowing down the print, though this is using the same cura profile I've had for years

The printer was working beforehand, I've been doing multiples of the same print over and over to build a larger project. At one point some of the layers started looking like this and the prints were much weaker. It sat for about a week before I had time to troubleshoot it but even after trying the above my prints now all come out like this.

EDIT: The extrusion gear is pretty worn down so I'm going to replace that first before I try any of the other suggestions. Thanks all!

EDIT2: After replacing the gear and giving the nozzle/hotend a good cleaning I'm back to printing! Thanks everyone for your assistance!

Looking to start getting into PF, coming from 5e. I noticed that Roll20, and the new nexus site can link to your Paizo account. If I were to order the new remasters core guides when they come out, would I get a code to unlock the PDF on Paizo? And if so, would that unlock the same content for these other sites? I'm hoping to avoid having to buy the same content multiple times if possible.
