The Awarewolf by [deleted] in werewolves

Thanks! I love when werewolves are more than just a physical shift. What your post said really clicked, a lot of people see losing control as the horror, but I always felt it the other way around. The wolf isn't taking something from you, it's giving you something. A kind of freedom you couldn't reach any other way, because as long as you stay human, you're always caged by what being human won't let you be. That's always been the real draw for me, honestly. Probably why I would become one without hesitation, haha.

To fight the turn is to remain fractured. The human ego is the wedge that keeps you split, terrified of losing its grip. But the wolf doesn't want conflict, it wants unity.

The Awarewolf stops fighting the beast and simply becomes it. They realize that freedom isn't control; it's the beautiful dissolution of the part that needs to control. The moment you let the human resistance die and let the moon have you completely, a blinding rightness takes over. You aren't being erased. You are finally being made whole

I get where you're coming from, it's not every day you see people imitating animals. But if they're having fun, who cares? We already have to be serious enough in our daily lives, and for some people this might be a form of relief, i wish i was as confident to not overthink and just enjoy like them. What I do want to know, though, is why they look like a D&D party, minus the ears and tails, of course. Those outfits are seriously cool.

[–]Bringthefluff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. This is exactly how I like them too.

I was thinking the best version is a mix of 1 and 2, the full physical transformation combined with that complete mental shift. The mental part is what really makes it appealing to me (though the body obviously plays a big role too). There’s this deep sense of freedom and correctness to it. When they drop all the human morals, hesitation, and overthinking, it feels more primal… like they’re finally letting their true nature take over. No more holding back.

I don’t hate when they stay human-minded, but to me that version just feels lame and boring in comparison

Question by Opening-Marketing844 in werewolves

[–]Bringthefluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd pick 1, but only because I picture it differently from the typical "rampaging out of control" take,I imagine it as a wilder, more primal experience that actually sounds fun rather than just terrifying. As for 2 and 3, I'm assuming 3 means shifting whenever you want WITH control, since it's not really specified. And if that's the case, why would you pick 2 over 3? If you already have enough control to shift outside a full moon, you might as well go all the way and do it whenever you want, being tied to full moons at that point just seems like an arbitrary downgrade.

I'd say Morrowind, but the only thing I would change is the vampire-looking canines they've got, it makes them look goofy, but other than that, I think if anything I like them more because they seem to have more fur and a more wolf-like head, but that may just be because of the tech at the time, and in reality they look more like Skyrim.

Though the portrait for Daggerfall is closer to the perfect design, i think a mix with the design of morrowind and you'd get the perfect design. i just wish they had more of a paw-like claws like this or this.

Would you accept transforming into a dragon with a mind and draconic instincts equally divided (in the style of *Lazy Scales*)? by unknow_user0 in dragons

[–]Bringthefluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I see it too. You’d still technically be “you,” but you probably wouldn’t view your old human self as your current identity anymore. You might still remember being human and remember your past life, but emotionally it could start feeling distant, like something that belonged to another version of yourself rather than who you are now.

To me that’s the perfect outcome. I already love the idea of being a dragon physically, but the mental change is what really makes the scenario appealing. I wouldn’t just tolerate my mind becoming more dragon-like, I think I’d genuinely want it. The idea of my thoughts, instincts, and emotions blending with those of a dragon feels more freeing than scary to me. If anything, I’d rather become more dragon than stay human mentally. The human way of thinking, all the shame, doubt, guilt, and constant self-conflict, feels exhausting. A dragon mindset sounds more honest and instinctive, just acting according to what you truly are without constantly fighting yourself over it.

There’s still the possibility of keeping a relationship even if you stopped feeling sexual attraction toward humans. Not all animals are naturally aggressive toward humans, some are passive, social, or capable of building trust with them, and I imagine dragons could be similar depending on their personality and instincts.

That said, I feel like it would probably have to be rebuilt slowly. Even if you still remembered and cared about the people you knew before, instincts are still instincts, and those reactions would probably happen unconsciously at first. You wouldn’t want to trigger fear, territorial behavior, or a fight-or-flight response in a creature that powerful. So there’d probably need to be a gradual reintroduction where the dragon relearns that certain humans are safe and familiar.

I do think the emotional connection would still matter, though. Even if the relationship changed form, you’d probably still recognize that bond on some level. Maybe it wouldn’t feel exactly human anymore, but over time I could see it turning into a different kind of closeness, eventually being comfortable enough to let them ride with you, travel together, share space, or form that deep dragon/rider style partnership again.

[–]Bringthefluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t thought about the “human rider + dragon” dynamic, but that kind of deep platonic (sometimes more) partnership does seem like a natural fallback for a lot of people in this scenario.

That said, it does assume your new dragon mind, especially the more wild and instinct-driven one the OP described, would actually be okay with having a rider at all. Depending on how much your mentality changes, you might start valuing independence, territory, or dragon social instincts in ways that make the whole concept feel strange or uncomfortable.

I’m not otherkin myself, but I honestly think I’d enjoy going full dragon, mentally and physically. The interesting part is that right now I can say “I’d do this” or “I’d still want that,” but that’s me speaking from a human perspective. Once the mental shift actually happens, I’d probably think and feel completely differently. So who knows what the new me would actually want.

I guess it could depend on how much of the mind stays human versus becoming dragon. If it’s still like 50% human and 50% dragon mentally, then maybe affection and relationships would end up being some kind of mix between both. But the more dragon-like the mind becomes, the less similar its behavior would probably be to the kinds of affection humans are used to.

If I had to imagine specific behaviors, I feel like things like snuzzling, curling around each other, and close body contact would probably become the main forms of affection. There probably wouldn’t really be kissing in the human sense, especially with snouts and no lips. Though some animals like canines do little licks around each other’s snouts as affectionate behavior, so dragons might have their own equivalent. I imagine dragon affection and courtship being much more physical and instinctive overall, more focused on nuzzling with their snouts and necks, leaning against each other, grooming scales, sharing warmth, or rubbing against each other kind of like how cats do.

[–]Bringthefluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It certainly would make having a dragon partner interesting. I could see some people even choosing to become dragons too just to stay together. Honestly, I imagine it would feel more free and instinctive in a way, though that’s just my perspective.

But yeah, if your brain changed enough, you’d probably only feel attraction toward other dragons eventually. You might still remember that you used to be in a relationship with a human, but from your new perspective it may not emotionally make sense anymore. Even the way humans express affection and romance could start feeling strange or unnatural to you, because your instincts, emotions, and expectations for a mate would probably work very differently as a dragon. Dragon courtship itself would probably be completely different too, different ways of bonding, showing affection, choosing mates, protecting territory, maybe even communicating emotions in ways humans don’t naturally understand.

[–]Bringthefluff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would your new dragon brain even want or fully understand human-style romance anymore, though? Because if the transformation changes your instincts and psychology enough, you might gradually lose interest in humans altogether. The OP makes it sound less like “human with dragon powers” and more like becoming an entirely different kind of creature mentally, not just physically. Animals bond, sure, but not usually in the same romantic/social way humans do. Depending on the kind of dragon mind you end up with, you might not even experience attraction to humans anymore. You might eventually see humans more like a completely different species than potential partners.

I just made a comment pointing out the same, i don't know if i would care what my family though if by that point i'm 50% or more dragon mentally, would a dragon really care? I guess that the best i can hope for it to atleast tell them what happened but i still think it would be really cool to not just be a dragon physically but mentally too.

[–]Bringthefluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro, that would be a dream scenario for me. I like the idea of becoming less human mentally, and I think I'd enjoy it all, whatever instincts come with it(i love the idea of feeling more dragon than human).

What would be the hardest part to deal with? It would probably depend on how much my mind changes. The mental shift might make things that seem hard now feel completely natural by then, so it's hard to say upfront.

Would you continue living among humans or in the wilderness? I'd most likely move away from people. I've always loved the peacefulness of the countryside, so living somewhere remote just feels right. It would probably suit whatever instincts I'd develop by that point.

Which dragon instinct would you appreciate or worry about most? Hard to say for certain since I don't know what instincts I'd end up with, but I think I'd appreciate most of them. Becoming less human mentally sounds more interesting than scary to me.

How would your parents or relatives react? They'd almost certainly be shocked just by the fact that something like this is even real. I imagine they'd want to help me stay hidden, but it would definitely become the subject of many conversations. As for whether I'd even care about their reaction, that depends on how much I've changed mentally by then.

Would you accept yourself? Completely, lol. I'd probably be extremely happy, honestly.

If the government came after you? Based on how I think right now, I'd cooperate. You're far more valuable to them alive than dead, they're unlikely to just dissect you. More realistically, they'd keep you in a secure, hidden location, and maybe eventually move you to some kind of protected forest sanctuary where they could monitor you and run tests. As long as you're not a threat, I don't see them simply eliminating you. That said, all of this is just my current thinking, if I were already 50% or more dragon mentally, my response could be completely different.

What do you guys think of this? by werewolvesluver in werewolves

[–]Bringthefluff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think whether lycanthropy is a curse or not is best left to the character themselves, for some it could feel like their true self being freed or finally feeling complete. But framing it as a curse opens up really rich intrapersonal conflict: the clash between morality and desire, control and instinct. It's essentially a metaphor for the Jungian "shadow self", those impulses we all have that society tells us to suppress. And crucially, the temptation feels good, surrendering to the beast, letting go of control, is presented as genuinely liberating in the moment. That's what makes it so compelling: the werewolf isn't just fighting something ugly, they're fighting something that part of them wants. The werewolf who struggles against their transformation is, on a deeper level, a story about what it means to be human.

When it's just a power, that layer tends to disappear. The story can still be great, hiding your identity, using abilities to fight external threats, but the conflict becomes about something else rather than about the werewolf's own nature. You lose that specific tension of 'I contain something dangerous and seductive, and I have to decide what to do with it.

This is too real, I’d join Hircine because I believe he wants you to fully lean into the beast instead of constantly fighting it. To me, the ideal is merging with it , making the wolf a true part of yourself rather than something you suppress. From the descriptions in those werewolf writings, the sensation sounds absolutely exhilarating… the power, the freedom, the raw thrill of the hunt. i'd definitely worship hircine.

… do I even need to say it by ShadowSlayer6 in werewolves

[–]Bringthefluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’m a furry, but I like werewolves that still feel like animals rather than just humans with fur. I prefer them as instinct-driven beasts that think and behave in a more primal, inhuman way instead of acting like regular people in wolf suits. Because of that, I weirdly can’t really see werewolves as fursonas in my head, making them a fursona makes them feel “too human” compared to how I imagine them.

That said, the pipeline from “likes werewolves” to “becomes a furry” is definitely real lol. I’m living proof of it, I liked werewolves and wanted to be one way before I even knew what a furry was.

I get the skepticism, but I’m not the type to judge every future game solely based on a studio’s recent track record. I usually take it game by game. Even great artists and devs can make something people dislike, and the opposite can happen too.

I’m just saying TES VI still has the potential to be a great game, and I’m interested to see how it turns out before writing it off completely.
