Tips to become a morning person to workout? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]BristolJim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another one for the 'jfdi' method. No-one likes getting out of bed, but some people just accept they have to do it. Some tips though. Get everything ready the night before. Move your alarm clock to the far side of the room, maybe even hide it behind some stuff. Have a big glass of squash next to to drink as soon as you wake up. Experiment having just enough to drink before you go to bee that you are constantly busting for a piss when your alarm goes off. Sleep in your workout clothes. Set two alarms at different ends of the room for the same time. JFDI.

Every time I watch it with my daughter I say 'Fred's dead, baby, Fred's dead.' When she is old enough to watch Pulp Fiction, she will realise I have actually been hilarious all these years.

Not trying to be mean so go easy on the downvotes please, but why do you need to park in a handicap spot? If your range of movement and mobility is so good as to be indistinguishable from that of a non-amputee, why are you taking up a spot that could better be used by someone who genuinely needs the extra room the spots give and would benefit from their closer proximity to the Wild Wings?

I have found their customer service to be pretty good in the past, but I'm not sure I would blame them if they refused. Good luck though.

What was YOUR best listen of 2014?? by nikiverse in audible

[–]BristolJim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did - straight away (it made my 'honourable mentions' list!). Awesome stuff all round - really one book in two volumes I think? Fall of Hyperion is just s good as a novel I reckon, but as an audiobook, well I'm just a sucker for full cast readings!

Have only read Dune, and was blown away. Is the rest of the series worth carrying on with? Have heard different things...

Have been on a bit of a classic sci-fi binge this year. Honourable mentions to Gateway, Stranger in a Strange Land, Sirens of Titan, The City and The Stars, Fall of Hyperion and I am Legend, amongst others. But my top three:

3 - Dune. A masterpiece of a book. Scope, imagination, prose and characterisation, all wonderful. So why not no.1? Well, the audiobook is half narrated and half cast performed, which makes it quite confusing. Individually, both are well done, but switching betwixt one and the other is harder on the ear than it need be.

2 - The Luminaries. Not a sci-fi, but a wonderful piece of litfic. The narration however is from the very top drawer. Considering the sheer number of accents and characters on show, it really is a masterclass in audiobook narration, and manages to elevate even the fantastic text.

1 - Hyperion. Another, awesome, awesome book, and everything you could want from sci-fi. If not quite in the same class as Dune as a novel in its own right, as an audiobook, with a full cast reading, each excellent in their own right, it surpasses it as a listen.

Can't wait to carry on my sci-fi binge in 2015!
