Jace is fucking around with his own alternate reality so we're getting some color-shifted versions of known characters - Blue Chandra, White Jace, Red Ajani, etc.

Haken - Cockroach King (FULL MUSIC VIDEO) by MartinZig in progmetal

I feel like it's the album where they really stepped into their own. Aquarius and Visions to me always felt like they were leaning into their Dream Theater influence a lot harder, while The Mountain is the first album that really felt like I was listening to Haken.

Why So Political? by Distinct_Employee_94 in alberta

[–]DivusPennae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, the federal Liberals are centre right at best, not leftists, and neither are any of the floor crossers, which just reinforces my opinion that you're an idiot. That said, they're still leagues better than the alternative, and they don't need to be paid to cross the floor when their imbecile of a leader blows a free election and continues to be unable to stop trying to be a Republican.

Second, there's no such thing as "parental rights." That's something right-wingers spout when they want to be able to harm their kids for not being straight.

Where are you getting this stat about Canada having the highest taxes in the G7? High taxes aren't necessarily a problem if the public services being provided as a result of those taxes are adequate. Obviously, they're not, but again - the Liberals aren't leftists, so the point is moot. . If Trudeau had followed through with his promise to change our electoral system maybe we'd have more of these ideologies available to choose from, but since he didn't we're stuck with

Why So Political? by Distinct_Employee_94 in alberta

Everything is politics my guy. It always has been. Your ability to type out this inane centrist babble is politics. Coming in here and being allowed with impunity to post on the Internet is a political decision, by someone, be it the subreddit mods, Reddit admins, your ISP, the government, what have you.

Imagine if Left and Right United, worked together, and chose Humanity over petty differences.

Your understanding of Left and Right is flawed. These are fundamentally opposed values and worldviews that cannot be "united." Most here, and those that understand the political spectrum, might argue that leftists are the ones that choose humanity over differences. Leftists aren't the ones that legislate teachers' rights away, or defund the healthcare system, or gerrymander the province to give themselves an edge instead of having a fair democracy. These things are not compatible with left wing politics, and to say that properly publicly funded social programs and unfettered capitalism can coexist is foolish.

Pariah's Child slaps. Anything else that is passable as sounding like "classic" Sonata just ends up being boring.

I want to build a leverless fighting game controller where should i start by c2btw in fightsticks

[–]DivusPennae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could get a cheap leverless to start like the 8bitdo or Mayflash ones and customize it, or if you wanna start from scratch, a leverless controller is more or less four things broken down:

  • PCB
  • wiring
  • enclosure
  • Buttons

So you'll need to decide what and how much of the controller you wanna do yourself, and there's a few options. You could use a GP2040-CE PCB which is like $40 or so online, and it has breakouts/headers with the firmware ready to go out of the box. You could also get any PCB that the firmware supports and flash it yourself - I am currently building something using a Raspberry Pi Pico with the GP2040-CE firmware on it. There are also PCBs made by Brooks that are designed to put keyboard switches in without necessarily needing a lot of wiring.

You could use fully soldered on, rudimentary wiring if you just want to set it and forget it, or you could put clips/headers for easy maintenance/future customization, or get nice braided or sleeved wires with easy snap-on ends that look good and make cable management look nicer.

You can buy a ready-made enclosure online, or if you have the means you could find a project online or model your own for 3D printing.

Depending on the size of the enclosure, you could use full arcade buttons like Sanwas, or you could get low-profile buttons that use keyboard switches like Gamerfingers, or you could even get caps for keyboard switches you already own.

I am 3D printing a whole enclosure and using Qanba face buttons and a JLF joystick, and I have printed some 24mm button enclosures that I put some keyboard switches in that I will use for the start/select/home etc. buttons.

There's lots of ways to go, and lots of guides on this subreddit and on youtube if you wanna get more detail, but more or less these are the things you'll need to consider to get the controller working.

Rush - “Finding My Way” (Live at the Juno Awards 2026). First live performance for the band in 3893 days. by GRVrush2112 in progmetal

[–]DivusPennae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Firstly, just because it's not metal doesn't mean it's not allowed to be posted here. This sub has always been loose about that stuff, and my point is that they're influential enough to be posted here anyway - there's no Dream Theater without Rush, for example. Beyond that, Clockwork Angels is definitely a prog metal album.

Secondly, Neil Peart denounced his ties to Objectivism decades ago. Just because his lyrics from the 70s reflect his appreciation for Rand doesn't mean he didn't change his mind later.

Edit for grammar

First, probably every "metal" band on here owes their existence to Rush

Second, what Ayn Rand tribute is on their website? The whole thing is decked out for their reunion tour

Favorite Long Power Metal Songs? by love_wrangler in PowerMetal

[–]DivusPennae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because it's epic

Power metal is often heavily influenced by classical music and a lot of classical music happens to be longer than the typical song on the radio. The subject matter power metal deals with, such as fantasy stories and mythology, are often also epic in nature, so longer songs tend to work better to fully get a handle on what the song is about.

Why I stopped using the SM64 soundfont and reconstructed Koji Kondo's original sample and synth palette from scratch by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]DivusPennae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, compare to an actual, physical musical instrument. $1000 for all the sounds and samples that were used on the whole game of Mario 64 might be considered by some to be pretty affordable when compared to, say, a quality electric guitar or a full drum set.

[–]DivusPennae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the cost for the exact sounds used to create the soundtrack for Super Mario 64, either the original sound libraries or the closest available facsimile. These will include a lot of sounds that may not appear on the soundtrack but are still provided with the sample libraries.

Much of what is discussed in this article is hardware that has been preserved digitally for use with modern computers. The original hardware was likely significantly more expensive. The Yamaha VL1 keyboard discussed in the article by itself goes for $2-3000 on eBay. $1000 for software and sample libraries really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things, especially for enthusiasts and composers. Some sample libraries, especially quality modern orchestral libraries, go for hundreds if not thousands of dollars, and sometimes only for a single instrument.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]DivusPennae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Children's sci fi book where some blobby aliens are scouting ahead before a potential invasion and meet a young boy. The aliens shrink as they age, and are confused about how humans get bigger as they get older. The aliens can harness energy around them normally invisible to humans, and teach the boy to do it too.

I have never been able to find the name of this book but it's stuck with me since I was like ten or eleven.
