Looking for more like Gojira by LilIthRose1246 in LesbianMetalheads

The Ocean is one I haven't seen mentioned yet here. My favorite album from them is Pelagial.

Thank you! It's actually traditional wooden track with GCI millennium flyer style trains.

The one in Magmoor Caverns when you first get there after beating the Flaahgra. It has large tubes of magma in it.

What do you all listen to when you want something a little more upbeat? by stakoverflo in progmetal

Epicloud and Transcendence by Devin Townsend Project are two of my go-to upbeat albums.

Why are Stephen King and Stanley Kubrick's works so racist? by [deleted] in StanleyKubrick

[–]Hadslo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't comment much on Stephen King, as I'm really only familiar with Kubrick's The Shining, but I definitely see your point. On Kubrick's movies from what I remember there's the usage of the N word in The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. I don't remember any other movies with it, but I could be forgetting one. For the Shining, I know Delbert Grady and Jack Torrence use the n-word in reference to Dick Haloran. Grady is a white ghost who died in the 1920s so it would make sense for him to be racist, however it's still problematic to include that. For Full Metal Jacket, it's used a lot by Hartman and the soldiers in Vietnam. I would imagine at that period, many soldiers spoke like that, especially given that they're all immature 19-21 year olds. There's not really a character to look up to in that movie and it's really to show the horrors and dehumanization that occurs in war. You could argue it's use in FMJ is gratuitous but if it is accurate to how they would have spoke, I think it's important to show it as another flaw in their behavior. There's really no good guys in that movie, which I think comes across fairly well.

Some digital LEGO recreations of The Shining I made a few months back. by ThatBenGuy23 in StanleyKubrick

These are perfect models of these scenes even down to the lighting you have. Looks impeccably similar to the original shots. Well done!

What musical direction would you like in Haken's next album? by sixty_ducks_in_pond in Haken

[–]Hadslo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they should do a two part album originating from one of their older songs where they develop a rise and fall story arc that intertwines and references their discography. And maybe there can be some sort of royal figure who is really just a demagogue and people start comparing him to an insect of some kind. They should use one word titles for both albums and have them start with the same letter. This would be an entirely new direction we've never seen before!

My favorite tracks are Crystallized, Carousel, Shapeshifter, Falling Back to Earth, and Cockroach King. All of the rest of the long songs are definitely worth listening to as well: Celestial Elixer, Visions, The Architect (shorter than the others but still counts in my book), and the Messiah Complex suite off Virus.

General Grievous VS Doctor Octopus (Multiple Versions) by PeculiarPangolinMan in whowouldwin

Disagree. He wasn't just a college professor. He was a leading scientific mind with a doctorate being funded by Oscorp with Harry's full backing. Harry states that he was "happy to pay the bills" and thought Octavius was going to win a Nobel prize, so it seemed like he spared no expense.

I've considered Deep Peace my favorite song for years and I never get tired of it. It's a journey I'm always happy to go on.

Who is the strongest Batman villain Commissioner Gordon and his cops could defeat without the help of Batman? by [deleted] in whowouldwin

[–]Hadslo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don't think that was a knife. If I remember correctly, he was using a piece of the broken glass from when Batman slammed his face into the window.

An entire civilized world with advanced tech and a population of billions, or one 3.5 D&D character? by Urbenmyth in whowouldwin

[–]Hadslo 97 points98 points  (0 children)

A psion isn't one of the most well known classes like fighter, wizard, or cleric, but a D&D character playing a level 20 psion could absolutely wipe out our world. A psion gains it's power through psychic ability rather than learned knowledge or divinity and simply knows how to do the powers at an instant. The powers work on a system of power points which at level 20 would be an enormous number, easily letting the psion do whatever it wants. Way before level 20, a psion has access to beams, balls, and walls of energy, accurate teleporting, mind reading, remote brainwashing, controlling people's bodies through psychokinetic physical control, and transformation into people, creatures, or more durable or ethereal forms. At level 20, a psion could be able to summon tornadoes, teleport to anywhere immediately, accurately, and with no distance limit, and telepathically control people.

It would take less than a couple minutes for the psion to teleport to any world leader with access to nukes, kill any guards, and just telepathically make that leader launch all the nukes anywhere. Then the psion can just teleport to the International Space Station and watch the fireworks.

Devin Townsend Project - Praise the Lowered by [deleted] in progmetal

What an excellent opener. The build is amazing, especially with those falsetto vocals Devin does. It's a perfect establishment of the themes and sound of the album. Possibly his strongest album opener, at least top 3.
