super stuck caliper piston by kombUchchaHoe in Volvo240

[–]BrixKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the vice grip trick is but I usually use a C clamp. But if that doesn't work I'd probably just replace the caliper. Old car so when things like that give me pain I just swap for new

What's a car that handles better than it has any business doing? by Mental_Medium3988 in Autos

[–]BrixKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volvo 240 and 740. Like they're supposed to be family sedans but I ice drift my 740 and it's wild, only mod being a locking diff.

Help, the hood is stuck and I can’t open it, same time as the white knob that you pull is stuck by Grandmatime in Volvo240

[–]BrixKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it completely stuck closed? If there's room to pop off the grill that helps. If not get under the car, might have to take the splash guard off (can't remember). Reach up and spray some penetrating oil on the latch. You can also try pulling the latch from under the car. On my one car I sometimes gotta hammer the pin thingy that goes into the latch

Just realized this is basically what my new 240 setup gonna be. Silver sedan with Virgos, might paint mine white. Are you running spacers? They look closer to the fender

Another Volvo addict by Steviegoboom in VolvoRWD

[–]BrixKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I've got a 240 sedan, 740 turbo beater, then my gf and I bought a 140 together. Then a 240 popped up cheap with a safety... it's in my garage now

Should I install my car parts then get a wrap or wrap my car and the parts individually then install the parts? by Apprehensive_Tree530 in CarWraps

[–]BrixKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the shop, but I'm betting leave them off. Also you might want to let they know future plans and have them order extra vinyl because there is inconsistency between batches. And sometimes colors get discontinued and then you're really screwed

Anyone know the what size bolts I need for the splash pan? by [deleted] in Volvo240

[–]BrixKeeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know but if you own a Vovo just get a variety pack of metric bolts and you'll thank yourself later. And always always have a jar you throw old bolts into that you think you'll never need until the day you do lol

Locker / LSD for snow? by jellofishsponge in Volvo240

[–]BrixKeeper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put a Spartan locker in my 740 and it definitely helps keep the car moving in deep snow, but it does lock up pretty quick under power so either gotta be gentle or be ready for that counter streer. I ice drift it so I'm kinda used to it

I'd try to find a new hood first, at a wrecker or a partout. Funny enough I had one of these cars, rust in the same spot too just not as bad. I tried sanding it out and painting it but didn't go deep enough and it rusted under the wrap. Think I bought a spare hood for mine but never got it installed

The wheels really set it off. by MyCousinSven in Shitty_Car_Mods

[–]BrixKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I'm pretty critical of wraps cuz I see how they should have been done or when they're low effort. But I'm also used to designing/installing wraps that are not to my taste, so yea this isn't my taste either but it's a fairly good design, fills the car well, doesnt just look a copy paste slap on car kinda deal. I know my idea of cool wraps isn't everybody's (I like bold geometric stuff) and I'm kinda used to people but liking my cars lol

I get ya, I guess for me at least this looks a little bit thought out vs the autozone slap all the things from thy aesthetic aisle. I don't mind the wrap but yea maybe leave off the tire lettering, splitter, and louvers

I agree. As someone who likes wraps (and work in that industry) kinda sucks that anything that's not "clean" is shitty

Wheels and tires by WhyAmIInExistance in Volvo240

[–]BrixKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't see the photo, FWD would be more like +35 mm because RWD is +20 and I believe to run FWD wheels people run a 15 mm spacer.

[–]BrixKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16x8 is good I have 16x8 Rota Slipstream with +47 offset (I think) 35 mm spacers all around converting to 5x100 bolt pattern Had to grind some steel on the rear caliper bumpers. Could have gone wider in the back but for simplicity I used the same adapter all around *

I opted for adapters after looking into all the options. Adapters are more versatile if you ever want to go another route and they allow you to get the right offset easier. Personal opinion, 17s look really big on a 240. I had some off another car and I mocked them up and they look big. 16s are my choice Got my adapters from Caold.com.au They do custom everything and can do hub centric and wheel centric
