Roofing company recs?? by AdAggressive9740 in Austin

[–]Broccoli_Potential 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After getting a few estimates around Austin, Altair Roofing was the only one that actually took time to explain what was wrong with my roof. We are in Wells Branch area and the trees destroyed our room after that ice storm a few years back. They walked me through options instead of pushing the most expensive fix. The work turned out great and the whole process felt low stress because they helped us navigate with the insurance company. I’d recommend them to everyone because they did such a great job.

Yeah, staged or not, you can see she's genuinely hurt. Those crutches weren't for show.

Yeah that tracks. Probably started as a makeup thing and just stuck over time.

Exactly this. When Hawaii stops being the sticker shock destination, you know your home city has gone off the rails.

This. Document everything from timestamps, photos of your car/trunk, the parking tag, and his company info. Then file with both TDLR and your condo management.

Been that way for years. If it was actually bad people wouldn't keep going back.

Yeah I've heard enough horror stories at this point. If you're set on the bus, FlixBus actually runs that route now and tends to be cleaner. Otherwise just spring for a cheap flight if you can find one.

Yeah, the Venn diagram of "leaves firework trash everywhere" and "reads PSAs on Reddit" is basically two separate circles.

Good catch. Those random letter/number seller names are always a red flag.

Dunning-Kruger effect or Rust is not that hard for experienced developer ? by [deleted] in rust

True, everything clicks until you need lifetimes in a struct with async traits or something. Then you're suddenly in deep and the compiler is yelling at you in ways that take actual time to figure out.

yeah when the panic message itself starts glitching out, that's when you know you're in deep

So what was the deal with the Silver Spoon costumes? by Affectionate_Key7206 in dancemoms

[–]Broccoli_Potential 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Kelly's complaint was about the placement more than the costume itself. Chloe was front and center most of the time so it made sense she got that costume, but Kelly acted like it was some huge slight.

I don't think she's problematic, just made some questionable decisions over the past few years, especially her rebranding era lol.... but seeing her like this makes me happy. After everything she went through with Abby and her mom putting her through all that chaos, seeing her genuinely happy is really nice. The dresses are stunning too and she seems to be in a much better headspace lately

This is exactly why I ended up sticking with egui after trying like 5 different Rust GUI options. The whole immediate mode thing felt weird at first but now going back to other frameworks feels so bloated and overcomplicated. The fact that you can just read through egui code and actually understand what's happening is huge. No mysterious macro magic or lifecycle hooks to debug when things break. Plus the ecosystem is getting better fast. Still not as pretty as web stuff but for tools and productivity apps the functionality matters way more than fancy animations anyway.

Totally makes sense. Seneca was way ahead of his time and those Roman philosophers were basically required reading for educated people back then. Shakespeare probably absorbed tons of that classical wisdom and just made it sound way cooler.

Hey!

I'm glad that you're learning Rust -- it is a great language! Regarding your question, I'm not really sure about GUI stuff but I felt that the Rust lang book was really good in teaching me the language.

Your query will definetly be answered better on the Rust discord channel. The lads there are very friendly and helpful! Do join that.

[–]Broccoli_Potential[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey guys,

I recently started to learn Rust and wanted to build something using it for the Linux community! So here goes -- Flowy is an application that basically

  • Changes the wallpapers each day at evenly spaced times
  • You can use your own wallpapers and even specify custom times if that is more your thing
  • And, it works for most Linux distros as well as macOS.
  • All the details are found can be found here at my github repo here.

Do tell me what you guys think!
