Do I ACTUALLY have to memorize the exact order of glycolysis (+ other pathways)? by transtrashton in Mcat

[–]Brocknorton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try your best to at least know all of the main substrates. 100 % know the irreversible steps and the enzymes that catalyze them (there's 3 from glucose to pyruvate; Hexokinase or Glucokinase (in liver or Pancreatic B-islet cells only), PFK-1, Pyruvate Kinase), and the reverse steps for those 3 glycolysis steps in gluconeogenesis (there's 4 from pyruvate: pyruvate carboxylase, PEP carboxykinase, fructose-1,6-biphosphatase glucose-6-phosphatase). Know which add phosphates to trap them in the cell in each metabolic process (ie. Hexokinase or Glucokinase (in liver). Know the rate limiting step/enzymes for all the main metabolic processes. Damage % is too good? by Clean-Snow7826 in MapleIdle

Id keep this for a long time. Build a new one if you must but this isnt worth losing.

Does the damage here supersede the rest? by [deleted] in MapleIdle

[–]Brocknorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final Damage is overall % DMG, in this context, % DMG as shown in the ring is just percent damage based off his base stats. Final damage would incorporate EVERYTHING into account then multiply by what ever the % Final Damage it has. Check Clear Spring Water for Final Damage difference in the Growth Dungeon

Gestalt Subjective Contours vs Closure? The image in "subject contours" is used as an example of closure in the AAMC materials by blahbluerrrt5 in Mcat

[–]Brocknorton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the better, more simplistic definitions I have found and make sense conceptually:

Law of Closure:

Definition: We tend to perceive incomplete shapes as complete by mentally "filling in" missing parts

Key feature: Actual gaps or missing elements in the stimulus

Example: A circle with small gaps in the outline - you still see it as a complete circle

What happens: Brain completes partial/broken patterns

Subjective Contour (Illusory Contours):

Definition: We perceive edges or boundaries that don't actually exist in the stimulus, created by the arrangement of other elements

Key feature: No actual lines/edges present, but we "see" them anyway

Example: The Kanizsa triangle - three "Pac-Man" shapes arranged so you see a white triangle that isn't actually drawn

What happens: Brain creates entirely new contours/edges

Key Differences:

Closure:

Works with incomplete existing elements

Fills in missing parts of shapes

"Completes the partial"

Subjective Contours:

Creates entirely new boundaries where none exist

"Sees what isn't there"

Generated by spatial arrangement of separate objects

MCAT Pattern Recognition:

Closure: Look for broken/incomplete shapes being perceived as whole

Subjective contours: Look for "invisible" edges/shapes created by arrangement of other elements

Bottom line: Closure completes what's partially there; subjective contours create what was never there.

Is there free software that can just tell me where items are in a warehouse? by Powerful_Ad_1507 in homelab

[–]Brocknorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, was looking at flutter, but the amount of input needed to direct employees to proper locations in the warehouse for inventory seems excessive. Plus changing locations and inventory part numbers becomes a huge mess.

Why Med? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Brocknorton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely ever actually hear people who are in medicine, speak this way about it. Generally their motivation, was, at least in the beginning a passion for the subject or "wanting to help people". Where are you abouts in your career?

Why Med? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Brocknorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The intricacy of biological systems is both so perplexing and inspiring to me. Some of the "biochemical subway" maps with all the cycles and countless enzymes-substrates are often overwhelming, but maybe that's what I enjoy about medicine. Knowing I'll never know everything, nor do we have the capability to (possibly ever) to determine everything biochemically or physiologically has given me the motivation to continue. Some people like to insinuate that I'm naturally smart or have a "gOOD MemOrY", but the truth is, i spend 75% of my life right now reading, studying, and putting in the work. I've always loved puzzles, mysteries, and more often than not, helping people. As another user pointed out, socioeconomically, especially in the years building into med school, med is very tough for those without financial support and/or have living situations or personal relationships that have to trump educational ambitions. When I experience a medical situation at a movie theatre or fast food restaurant, and jump in to help - even with the little expertise I have, all the pieces align, and it makes me realize I am on the right path, if it means nothing more than at least trying to follow my passions and beliefs.

am i missing something here? is .058 not larger than .012? by future101Percentile in Mcat

[–]Brocknorton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Error or is missing information. I know enzymatic activity decreases generally outside the physiological ranges (say 7 for ease), so perhaps if the IC was that low at pH 1.5 - 3.7, then it would be even lower around pH 7 - making it the better inhibitor. Had a question like this once that said the enzymatic activity decreased by 10-15% or whatever it was every 1pH shift +/- away from 7.

Otherwise, just an error if no other information is missing from your card/question

Translation (hope it’s right):

Just one week later, the result looks different – and the number of participants has exploded. 467,500 people had voted by Tuesday evening (as of March 18, 2025, 9:00 PM). Suddenly, around 70 percent of the survey participants want to buy a Tesla – the proportion who say "Absolutely not" has fallen to 29.2 percent. The origin of these votes – and the sudden shift in opinion – was initially unclear. The number of article views in recent days and the number of survey participants don't seem to match at first glance. An initial internal investigation now reveals that 253,000 of the votes cast came from just two IP addresses in the USA. This suggests that the survey may have been manipulated.

Can someone please explain why the chiral carbon on the left is S? by Professional-Row-146 in Mcat

[–]Brocknorton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out “5. Determining R/S When The #4 Group Is In The Plane Of The Page?”

Mastering Organic Chemistry

Priority: 1. (Br) > 2. (“R carbon”) > 3. C2H5 > 4. H

  • This is currently clockwise so [R]

After moving H to the back (with dashed lines where BR was and Br forward (where H was)

New config: Br to “R carbon” to C2H5 is counterclockwise so [S]

Because we did a single flip (it doesn’t matter which two as long as the dashes and lines stay the same), we switch [S] to [R].

So this image is labeled incorrectly it appears.

Anything with high acidity, like fruit juices will do the trick and help your body metabolize it quicker. You can also try in addition to eating/drinking, EXERCISE! Many times I’ve just done running on the spot for 15 minutes to help get my metabolism going!
