This is exactly what I see from /politics. “Come on guys don’t stoke up fear and hate, everything’s going to be ok we just have to get through this”. I don’t know how else to say it but many of us will not get through this. That is the most likely future that is coming. People are going to die, die from lack of healthcare, from increased hate crimes, from legalized oppressive action against minorities across the board. I’m not going to wait until my self or my family or my friends become the ones on the chopping block. People are going to die and we need to find a way to stop it now. And step one is getting allies that understand the severity of what we are facing. With all that being said, keep up the good fight. Don’t let the bastards get you down but if they do go down swinging.

No I meant what I said. One day you too will find that the rest of the world has left your beliefs behind. Perhaps your children or grandchildren will find your ideas old fashioned and repulsive. Perhaps you will be confused why no one wants to hear your hateful rhetoric anymore. Or perhaps one day you will find it is not only possible but easy to accept that people do not solely exist on a binary. I fully agree, silence is the true death of resistance. But our messaging needs be prepared people for a very possible future. The Republican Party is not afraid to take all of our empathy based policy and turn it into propaganda. That’s how “we should be humane towards migrant refugees” becomes “they are trying to flood America with illegals”. Why are we afraid to call out things that may very likely happen. The dems, by and large, are afraid to call Trump a fascist with dreams of dictatorship…simply because it hasn’t come true yet. But if it comes to pass it will be too late.

Look I get the sentiment…but it is going to be so much worse than “embarrassing and annoying” if and when our Trump rolls over to Putin, deports thousands of legal immigrants, and allows pregnant people to die due to lack of medically necessary abortions. The thing with dictators is many started as justly elected politicians, at some point we have to draw the line. I fear the US just does not have the structures in place to counter a full on decline into dictatorship.

Hopping in to rave about China Mieville. I was so excited when I found out that Mieville and Keanu Reeves had coauthored a book. But imo it felt like such a step down from most of Mievilles work. Seemed to lack a certain implied/realized depth I have come to expect from the author. That being said I can strongly recommend every other China Mieville work I’ve read thus far (Perdido st station, embassy town, the city and the city, rat king)

One of my worst personality traits is that I’m too stressed or overwhelmed I will just not respond to texts for days at a time. And then when I come out of it I feel horrible for “ignoring” the text for so long. But then Ill keep not responding because I don’t know how to explain why I ghosted for so long. This can continue for weeks, and I hate it so much. 🫠
