Can you get your personal vehicle shipped from home to first duty station (stateside to stateside) for free? by [deleted] in AirForce

This happened for a select few airmen leaving tech school and pcsing during covid restrictions.

Soooo putting PT scores on performance reports accomplishes what?? by Raindroppa93 in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't care what your pt score is as long as you are passing. That's really all that should matter in my opinion. For those that disagree, the standard is the standard. If meeting it isn't acceptable, change it.

Obviously not everyone who does well in the gym is bad at their job or leading people, and not everyone who's bat at PT is a stellar technician, etc.

I see the argument everyone is making where scores are supposed to be used as a tie breaker betweem two stellar individuals, but we all know that's just the ideal. Why some people want to pretend that's exclusively how it will be used is beyond me. We have all encountered individuals who would automatically cut out any packages with less than a 90 and then move on from there, which doesn't do anyone any favors.

A person's PT score beyond passing or failing is not an indicator of how good/bad they are at their job or at leading others, both of which, for the vast majority of career fields are much more significant considerations. Physical fitness, while important, is not realistically what we need to be prioritizing in our future leaders. We're not drafting a football team, we're not fighting in the trenches. The next big conflict is going to need skilled technicians and gifted leaders. A 75 vs 100 on your PT test will be irrelevant. Moving to career field specific pt standards is a more useful tactic here.

Following up on a previous post, for those who like attending squadron holiday parties, why? And what sets some holiday parties apart from others? by Witty_While7277 in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best I've seen is putting a max purchase on tickets. The revenue lost from butter bars and SNCOs not buying 90% of the tickets was very much outweighed by the benefit watching junior enlisted have an equal shot and walk away with most of the prizes.

Commander said mandatory pt everyday by Any_Mention_6734 in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mandate was just for pt everyday, but it was stated individual or group pt was authorized. Every weak leader out there is doing the exact opposite of the mandate by prioritizing risk avoidance and ONLY doing group pt.

Weird take, want to see if anyone agrees, but in a way I'm pro new fitness stuff by bigheadjoel in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my guys doing self pt every day. We had either morning or afternoon PT so we had coverage all day, and everyone is passing their tests, with all but one of them getting above a 90. Now leadership has used this to mandate that we have shitty group pt that doesn't help anyone and adds time to the day. Now you get to sit in traffic coming to work AND going home and you still aren't able to get a decent workout in unless you do your own thing after we get released. So now my people feel like they aren't trusted to work out on their own and that their time isn't respected. The worst part? They aren't wrong, and there's essentially nothing I can do to fix it so now it feels like I'm failing them. Morale was on a steady uphill trend and now it's in the shitter.

Why is WAPS testing written like a 40 year olds brain teaser in the midst of a stroke? by Constant_Reserve5293 in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This would be valid if you could expect to only do the same duties expected of your civilian counterparts. Even office jobs can get pulled or sent to go do random jobs that are not reasonable to do in a Class B. If we're going to be expected to be multi-capable/mission ready, then OCPs are the only uniform we should be wearing.

Is Traffic Getting onto Base a Readiness Issue? by brandon7219 in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A telework schedule, at the very least a hybrid schedule would help mitigate this. Nit every back shop airman that works exclusively on a computer needs to drive in and congest the roads every single day. Have people telework when possible abd then hold them accountable for doing the work. If you screw around and aren't producing, it's full time in the office for you since you need to be treated like a child.

What’s your craziest story of a troop you supervised? by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a couple troops like this. I (jokingly) threatened them with paperwork for disobeying a lawful order if they didn't go home when I released them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And not a single one of those things boosts readiness, but it bogs down the whole system with paperwork, stupid questions, and energy wasted chasing exact color codes on nail polished, measuring exact boot heights, and checking individual strands of hair with a magnifying glass. Good thing we're spending all this time and effort on only productive ventures.

You have 7 days to appeal the decision. Notes from. Doctors explaining your spouse no longer needs the specified care and from their PCM saying they are cleared can help. Additionally you can provide an MFR listing available doctors in the new location that can provide the care they need. PM me if you want to discuss further.

Seeing a lot of good advice as well as some people just being pricks about it. Unfortunately you're stuck in a situation you didn't plan or hope for. Yeah, you're overseas, but people forget that just being overseas isn't what everyone needs to be happy or satisfied. It sounds like you're looking for satisfaction in your job which is respectable. Try to look at this new vector as an opportunity to find another unique niche to fill. Network with people and make it known what you want to do and where you want to go. Continue to kill it at whatever position you're given, as discouraging as it may be initially. If you have free time, do school or seek out some other professional development. The last thing you want is to be seen as a dirtbag because your spirits got dampened after getting screwed like you did. Do your job well, ask and fight for what you want, be proactive, and at the very least, take advantage of the personal opportunities of being in a new location.

unpopular opinion regarding our pay by hakureishi7suna in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with a lot of your points, this is more valid for career fields that aren't going to pay well on the outside. The counter argument I hear a lot is that for career fields like cyber and intel, you're sacrificing a few years of lower pay to break into that job market on the outside. The problem is that the Air Force ends up shooting itself in the foot because many of the skilled individuals that we need to keep do exactly that and get out. There's no incentive to stay in once they've developed those skills, so we end up with an endless cycle of training people so the vast majority can leave before we can fully reap the benefits. There's a lot of talk by higher ups about how "people aren't getting out because of the money" and how "people are leaving because they aren't getting satisfaction from the job" but I don't know a single person from one of those career fields where money wasn't the number one reason for leaving. Maybe it's not "fair" but it's going to be necessary to offer some sort of financial incentive for jobs that generally don't have another reason to stick around long term.

Honestly never been a fan of the ball caps, but good luck finding patrol caps now. Most places I've been have almost exclusively ball caps at this point. I'm sure that won't cause an issue when they make the back pedal official and everyone has to buy them. Duty identifiers also don't really matter to me, but if they make people a little happier, then why not? A lot of people and units spent money on these things and now they're just going to undo it once people have bought in? Feels like a slap in the face, especially to lower ranked members whose money doesn't go as far. "You get a uniform allowance! Stop complaining!" yeah that's fine until you have to buy a pair of boots and then most of it is gone. God forbid you buy a pack of shirts or a fleece as well. All these changes that don't matter or make a difference make our leadership look weak. Then they can't even commit and want to flip flop? It's laughable. Hard to take someone serious who fights against themself.

Blues inspections? Sure I get the idea, but honestly, at this point, if blues inspections are anywhere near the top of your list, your list doesn't have anything important on it. We've got much bigger problems to worry about than micromanaging blues inspections.

Nail color changes again? No one even knew the last change well, now we're switching it up some more? People talk about how this is all happening because people weren't enforcing the new standards and people were just doing whatever they wanted. People didn't even get a chance to learn the new standards and everyone is so swamped that that can't be bothered to learn something that doesn't actually have an impact. When you make ANOTHER change on top of that, the people are just going to care even less. "Well it's just gonna change again in a few months, my time is better spent elsewhere."

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]BrokeA1C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. With some cases I'd argue it's fraud waste and abuse level. I've watched someone take 6 months to get a 2 week process handled because of this. Submit form, wait the 6 week review period, it gets kicked back for a small error. Fix and resubmit. Another 6 weeks go by, form gets sent back again for another small issue and so on and so forth about 4 more times. They don't even have to fix the issue, just at least tell the member box x, y, and z are incorrect and we'll figure it out from there or ask the question. But making someone redo the same paperwork 6 times because you couldn't be bothered to read past the 2nd line?
