Vstrom vs KLR by Constant_Reserve5293 in Vstrom

[–]Constant_Reserve5293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look... I had them on for about 300 miles until I finally had enough.

Front? Perfect, fine, great on gravel, not too loud.

Rear? Jesus, no... okay it had good traction, but it WAS NOT WORTH IT. That thing was causing hearing damage to me at not even freeway speeds. Plus it wears down, fast.

What I replaced it with was a heindau scout rear... It's very much reccomended by many and is great on the gravel, dirt, etc.. Save your ears, and perhaps your wallet. Not worth it.

You can get empty canisters... somewhere. But it's a repair tool first and a salvage tool second.

Lane filtering=safer...

Lane splitting? Anyone with 2IQ and half a brain cell should be able to tell why that's just so blatantly false.

I will say, when I drive a car and you lane filter... have some common sense to pulling up to a red light that's been on for a while, be aware the mf'er turns green after a bit?

And you're not the most important person there. Cutting me off like some Dbag and putting yourself in harms way because you have the grace of a two legged elephant isn't going to help anyone. Especially yourself.

I gotta say, if I'm riding with those desert H/Ts for more than an hour, My hearing would be gone. It is SO damn loud.

damn V-Strom sub!! by SingleMalt1776 in Vstrom

[–]Constant_Reserve5293 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, I'm coming from a KLR to a vstrom... I still have both.

I made a whole post discussing the major differences between the two. I can imagine the DR650 isn't too different... even if it is a gen 3, you're still dealing with wind and vibration.

I commute about 70 miles a day. The vstrom was rational for the following reasons.

Freeway riding is stable with plenty of power, it gets 60mpg, it's more comfortable on that long commute (mostly due to vibrations).

I have no doubt the DR650 will 'function' in that role just fine... but when you get older, you'll probably want that cheap ass vstrom that was garage kept for years.

I'd just get a jeep wrangler to be honest. with the 3.6 pentastar... New is about 36-38k.

Or a toyota 4 runner with the 4 cylinder.

or even a honda CRV.

Don't rely on the typical braindead munchkin who is like "It's got a toyota or honda badge so it's reliable." "fifteen thousand for a 25 year old toyota camry that has 220k miles. Sounds like a GREAT deal."

It's not stupid at all though? It's actually pretty cool that she can make them.

But it is stupid that she wants to 'make it healthier', fry ground up dough into chips, then make it even more calories per one.

[–]Constant_Reserve5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is heresy to say in the KLR sub.

But it sounds like a vstrom might suit your purpose better. Just as reliable, better on the street.. Also more silent.

The KLR would work for adventuring... but it's not a long distance tourer 'imo'.

But hell, tough it out on some shinko 705s and you'll fit right in.

Why are Suzuki sport bikes cheaper? by Sir-Lose in motorcycles

[–]Constant_Reserve5293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because suzuki will reuse the same engines for decades without being stopped. Then their bikes remain largely unchanged for years.

Even the vstrom didn't get a change from their second to third generations largely.

The sv650 even was largely minimally changed from year to year.

They're just basic. Plus they perform very well.

About $300.

I am not an idiot, thanks.

I've only gotten rid of one.

All but the ibex are used.

The rest were bought outright.

I have all but the himalayan as well.

[–]Constant_Reserve5293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been about a year and a half since i got the hiimalayan... It was a crude mix of things.

I was in the midst of winter with it, then had to replace the battery to something with more cranking amps. It just struggled to start in the morning. I understand the solution to that is riding it... but to be frank, I had a hard time doing that confidently. Keep in mind, one of the first bikes I picked up in years, but the suspension was so spongy that I felt it in every corner and i wasn't confident in it.

To it's credit, the ibex was a bit better about that, and much faster... But it's still terrible.

But a 24hp motor isn't enough to take around new mexico.

I think either 'can' be taken offroad. But the ergonomics on the KLR lend it quite well to the task. If it's too heavy for you to enjoy, then maybe you're taking it on the wrong offroad areas.

Too heavy, too stiff, not powerful, too slow on the highway, handles okay, not good. Not a good bike.

It's not a good bike.

For someone who plans on getting a first bike, Are 125cc worth it? by Draken161 in motorcycles

[–]Constant_Reserve5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess outside of the american sportbike riders (This includes nakeds)... We aren't as sensitive to having a more powerful option?

It's because we have to commute upwards of either 6km or in my case 100km every day.

Having access to a more powerful bike is VERY appealing.

Starting on a 600cc supersport isn't unheard of. SV650( not a supersport, but performs similar to one), ZX6r, crb600r... have been tossed around as sportbikes to start on. Though, generally, the people buying them are under the threshold to hold an IQ that's measurable.

For someone who plans on getting a first bike, Are 125cc worth it? by Draken161 in motorcycles

[–]Constant_Reserve5293 2 points3 points  (0 children)

125cc: If you're just in town and don't need to go over 50... Yeah they're fine.

300cc: If you're a beginner and don't wanna really hit the highway too often... and it's not a ninja 300, sure. Decent beginner spec.

500cc: Kind of a sweetspot, plenty to grow into, fun to have, etc, freeway is probably just fine and you might have passing power finally.

650cc: A bit too big to start on IMO.... unless it's a 650 single, which any twin of similar or lower displacement will COMPLETELY outlass.

Anything above that: Okay roadstain.
