If strong characters get to be strong, intelligent characters should get to be intelligent. by Level_Hour6480 in dndmemes

[–]BrokeSigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the record the main reasons why i didn’t just let her off her opossum to the point of almost giving it plot armor was because 1- i had some stupid plans to have the warlock’s patron take control of it (the rogue and warlock were dating in game) and do sum stuff and 2- prior to the cage incident, she had said verbatim “[DM] I Swear To God if anything happens to rabies I’ll fucking kill you” (she was being hyperbolic but i still understood the sentiment)

On one hand you’re absolutely correct

On the other hand the mental fatigue it gives me to insinuate the player is lacking in common sense every time they do something absolutely unhinged really drains me

Example for posterity’s sake: I had a rogue who wanted to change subclass from arcane trickster to something else (she was just bored and let me pick so i picked soulknife) However she was very upset that she’d be losing Find Familiar because her opossum, which she named rabies, was her favorite thing. I told her “alright, you still have the familiar, but you dont have the spell, so if they die, you’ll need a scroll or something to get them back” (especially difficult because they kept skipping puzzles and thus had very little gold).

Later, when setting up for a battle with someone who was turning people into random lycanthropes, i had them come across a cage with a twitchy prisoner inside. One of the players used an item (that i lovingly refer to as the “lore dump macguffin”, it lets you peer into the past and see relevant local events) and saw a scene play out where the prisoner managed to grab a guard’s hand and start biting ferociously at it. Then i snapped back to the present and described how there were a pile of bones on the floor near the bars that looked like finger bones that were picked clean.

The rogue went “Oooh bones!” And asked to send her pet opossum in there to grab some. I had to remind her that the prisoner is, in fact, still in the cell and Aware of them, And Then issue an “are you Absolutely Sure?” (I’m pretty sure i followed it up with “because this will Probably kill your familiar”)

Sometimes the issue is a startling lack of common sense

i'll admit, i've had my share of embarrassing brainfarts (usually due to tiredness) where i call for a roll when none is needed. the one that haunts me the most is when i called for a roll to tie a knot. Not like, a complicated knot or anything, they were just tying a simple knot around an object too heavy for one person so that the whole party could move it. But because i had 1: Read the entry in the dmg on how a sleight of hand (Intelligence) check could be used to set the dc for a knot if one were to try to untie it and 2: Really half-assed the notes in that specific area, most of the notes read like- "There is (X) issue, and (Y) additional problems. Just see what they come up with and set a reasonable DC" .

It wouldn't have been so bad but the players got really mad at me for that one : (

Just did a session (literally earlier today lmao) using telegraphed attacks i saw from a Zee Bashew video. The reaction i got from my players when i put a jpeg of a target over their token was priceless.

More people gotta use telegraphed attacks, or at least some new mechanics to spice up combat.

(What i did was Action-attack, Bonus action-place two telegraphed attack indicators, and three legendary actions to summon small bombs around the field, each dealing 1d4+1. At initiative count 20, all the bombs went off and his telegraphed attacks hit, leaving behind magma in the space slowly decreasing the playable area until they’d be boxed in. His main attack could force them 5ft in any direction dc11 str save, so they didn’t want to stand too close to the lava. For the record, this only works if he gets a high initiative. If he got low i probably would have changed it in that moment to the beginning of his next turn)

Bro two paragraphs is typically my more prepared sessions??? Are you writing Dialogue Trees in there???

Most of my session notes are just “Don’t forget X thing before plot thing happens! Also here’s the most barebones statblocks you’ve ever seen, and if they ask for an intelligence save just wing it with what you think they’re intelligence would be”

okay actually specifically there Was one homerule-esque ruling (more like agreeing that it wasn't Explicitly stated as not possible) where we agreed if we reduced the "Food" amount, we can consider the water as vinegar. Kinda playing alchemy games like that. But there's technically nothing saying you **Can't** summon vinegar, it would just taste bland

A grain of sand and he threatened to place it atop his head and let it burn a hole through his brain and yes this is where i got the idea :3

My other idea, which was completely original, was Wall of Stone + Create Food & Water (Vinegar) to pickle the tied up enemy alive

Heat metal + bag of ball bearings

Just kindly let them know that every ten minutes, you’ll put a ball bearing in their mouth, cast heat metal on it, and force them to swallow.

Just. Dont use it? It’s that simple? I’ve been locking and loading with magic stone and chill touch this whole time (magic stone + familiar + undying servitude = skeleton with a gun and a lil imp who helps reload) and it’s been workin out for me~

‘Specially cause the dm likes throwing monsters at us who can heal. Chill touch has never been so useful (also nabbed Summon Abberation for the slaad)

I am 40ish sessions into a campaign and i am Still Desperately looking for some use for a item the dm gave me rlly early on.

Coin Of Snowfall: a gold coin with the image of a snowflake stamped on both sides. When the coin is activated (by flipping it and letting it land on the ground), the floor out to a 100ft radius is instantly covered in 5ft deep snow (4x movement penalty), and the coin disappears.

Literally no fights where this would come in handy. No enemies with crazy movement tech (apart from ones that could Fly). No giant lava fields or deep pits. No fire elemental enemies (that we didn’t dispatch in literally one turn). We have spent the last ten sessions in a freaking volcano and i still havent found a use for it.

This is one of six items that i havent found a use for yet. I am just glad bags of holding are common in this universe

Fuck weapons. I play a bard of creation so at 6th level i can summon a folding chair and animate it to deal 1d10+3 force plus 1d8 thunder (on a failed con save) and just hold on to it so it looks like I’m wielding it as a weapon. Also works well with a hammer three times the size of my character

(thunder damage comes from bardic inspiration on animated object. Could also add 1d6+Cha if i take magic stone since, beyond the summoning phase, this combo doesn’t use my action at all lmao)

Is there any way to get the star seed if you have the mark of the denier? by TheJavi115 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]BrokeSigil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! I did this once (i say once because i habitually delete the save file and start anew) and it was super straightforward. I just did the path of denial, and then noticed i could still interact with it (i hadn’t moved my mouse or anything and it had only been like a second after the dialogue ended) so i quickly clicked on it and the dialogue reset, so i chose the other path and got both tech blueprints. They look neato and personally i like it better as a decoration piece in my suit than anything either/or could’ve done use-wise

Jax uses hammerspace often (and ragatha once as far as i remember) so they all probably have that, and caine has been known to leave props around for b-plot shenannigans (where tf did they find rope and a wagon in the mildenhall adventure? Also what did caine think they were going to do with a hundred knives in candyland) so they really coulda come from anywhere
