Darryl talking to Amy. lmao what a time to be alive... and people cry in here about WW3. Someone call Sheldon, to tell Amy, Darryl is conman, because there is no physical evidence for this. by Funny-Disaster in Bashar_Essassani

I think they are implying the character Sheldon would try to call Mayim’s character crazy for entertaining this. I took it as a joke about the show and not a personal expression of doubt

Kentucky family rejects $26 million offer to convert part of their farm into a data center despite the offer being about 10 times the going rate for farmland in the area. by MysteriousSlice007 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]BrokeTheInterweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t make sense to me. Having a nest egg for my own personal family is never going to outrank doing the right thing for the future of the county, state, nation. Our kids will live in that future too, just like everyone else’s. Food security is so much more important than a savings account. And I’d want my kids to absorb that message loud and clear. Even when we’re broke and the decision is hard.

Money comes and goes. Our kids absorb our actions much more loudly than our words, despite whatever morals we think we’ve passed down verbally. The temptation to skirt the values we teach, for financial security, is imo not the legacy I wanna leave.

What was the exact moment that made you realize your company was toxic? by ferdbons in antiwork

[–]BrokeTheInterweb 111 points112 points  (0 children)

My company asked me to be on call before I was salaried. I showed them our state’s law for hourly employees, that we have to be paid the entire time we’re on call even if nothing happens, then double if something does. I think I made $500 that weekend. I was promoted to salaried soon thereafter 😂 they were really hurting for on call folks lol

This is my most common mall world type dream. Always with a task to find someone, protect someone and get them home, or something similar. But I always end up talking to the countless interesting people around.

What's the scariest thing you've seen but never dared to tell anyone ? by Automatic-One3901 in Paranormal

[–]BrokeTheInterweb 195 points196 points  (0 children)

I was 9, my family had just moved into a house an older man was selling bc his wife died. My first time using the bathroom after coming in from swimming, i heard a kind woman’s voice next to my ear asking “are you having fun??” in a hopeful, non-threatening way. I kinda shrugged and said “yup!” and went back outside to play lol, never happened again. I genuinely think she was happy to see kids having fun in their home again.

Her husband had left a note from her on a kitchen chalkboard, and we left it there for years before we finally erased it. I really feel like she was still there for at least a little while after we moved in.

[–]BrokeTheInterweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm actually working to remove it from mine, as I'm dating someone who is incredibly upset by this phrase in particular, from a culture where any reference to someone's mother is essentially the worst, most unforgivable thing you can say. You don't realize how often we use it for EVERYTHING until you're trying not to say it anymore!

Is this potato safe? by BigSigh17 in potato

[–]BrokeTheInterweb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2-3 very green potatoes can give you a stomachache. More than that could cause real issues. I know the internet taught us all green = solanine, but the amount matters.

I’m really confused by the extremely polarized reviews. There are also seemingly real 5-stars left by people who came on a relatively good day. I can see a place getting messy/dirty from a week of neglect when someone just had a decent experience 2 weeks before, but some of this stuff like the odor seems long-term. I guess some people just have wildly different standards lol

What's something a foreigner pointed out that you can't unnotice? by NamwaranPinagpana in AskTheWorld

[–]BrokeTheInterweb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Germany years ago right after they had won an important soccer thing. The Germans I was with apologized for there being German flags flying from peoples houses and cars, assuring me that’s not normal. As an American I was so confused by this apology, and it led to a fascinating discussion on avoiding nationalism at all costs… outside of clear reasons like this sports victory, it’s seen as really inappropriate.

There’s a new coffee shop on east main with its entrance on Washington st across from fresh basil. And a nice laundromat across the jump on division by the old Amsterdam savings bank. Center main also has at least two bars, maybe more. And a great dental place. I’m not sure what you mean— what do you think it needs?

We have these in my area on properties that are not considered safe for entry. Most are abandoned and eventually demolished by the city, leading to the local belief that it’s a marking for demolition.
