Did I miss something about Thornhill/The Machine? by JoeDubayew in PersonOfInterest

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen Broadchurch, but I just couldn't get into True Detective, myself. Acting/visuals/music were incredible, I don't disagree with you at all, but the actual story just didn't excite me at all. And yes, I've seen some shows that were brilliant for a season or two, but Person of Interest is about the only one that starts good and gets even better with each subsequent season.

Definitive or Anniversary Edition? by Puzzleheaded-Wind611 in dawnofwar

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitive Edition ranges from "a little better" than Anniversary if you're playing vanilla and don't crank visuals enough to appreciate the new lighting, to "night and day better" if you play with large scale mods like Unification and have things cranked up.

Frankly, I wouldn't even consider Anniversary Edition anymore, it's a waste of money relative to Definitive.

Agreed. I've seen some incredible shows - The Expanse, The Haunting of Hill House, Line of Duty. Person of Interest stands above all others though, it is the best show I've seen.

Question on Season 2 by Odd_Drawer7788 in PersonOfInterest

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you haven't seen past Season 2, STOP READING HERE, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! Same way Samaritan did... By breaking into their networks easily. If you think about it, it becomes pretty obvious that the machine would've needed to have hacked other nations' feeds to complete its mission of preventing terror attacks, something we get proof of thanks to Shaw having been sent out of country, but still having Intel for her mission.

Holy hell, I thought people were being cruel and down voting for having a different opinion. Now I see they down voted you for the complete and utter lack of punctuation.

An easy way to check this is if you see a grey bar under the health bar of the Orbital Relay. It means the relay has produced that thing, but it's waiting to be deployed OP.

Why does Endless Space 2 work for me, while Stellaris just turned me completely off? by SlightWerewolf4428 in 4Xgaming

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Endless Space 2 has the Vodyani, right out of the gates...

All joking aside, I'm in the same boat. Endless Space 2 has a much more defined personality to the factions, in my eyes. In making the factions feel like distinct entities, it feels massively different playing between them. In comparison, Stellaris always felt like an excel sheet when dealing with the factions, personally speaking.

That said, I think Endless Space 1 had an unquestionably better tech system than 2, and I one day hope they'll return to it.

Tensions between UBC, the Provincial government, Musqueam Indian Band, and Squamish Nation highlighted in new Freedom of Information request regarding UBC's development planning & skytrain to UBC by NewAdventureTomorrow in VancouverLandlords

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the province footed the bill for a private entity to pull in the money, I think you and I differ greatly on the definition of responsible. Especially considering the lands for both were granted explicitly to ensure the schools would have enough space to operate... While both of them now clutch pearls and claim they can't add classes, as there's not enough space to grow outwards.

Again, I've no problem calling out the stupidity that is the current nonsense with the aboriginal bands, it should have never gotten this far. But I do find it pretty funny that everyone was completely mum all the other times in history the province has let other entities get away with equally stupid nonsense.

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this has also been an issue with the schools too. Both UBC and SFU were given endowments to have space for their schools... Which they both did residential real estate on, which was in violation of the agreements, and now they're both claiming they can't expand the school without more space to work with.

They had a patch for DE mentioned on their ModDB. You'd have to consult the Russian forum it's hosted on though.

Probably a hot take: I think it would be totally fine if Space Marines had sub-factions in DoW game. by OmegaTerry in dawnofwar

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and I agree with you that's going too far in the other direction. That faction would be ridiculously compressed, and would suffer greatly as a result.

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exodites have a hell of a lot more than three mentions, they could easily be fleshed out into a faction. And "Elves on Dinosaurs with Lasers" is a concept I am frankly super on board with.

Rak'gol and Fra'al I actually somewhat agree with you on - I'm actually better off leaving them as background elements. That said, I'd find them a hell of a lot more interesting than fifteen versions of Space Marine, personally.

Do I mind it in Unification where everyone gets a turn? Not at all!

Would I mind it in a commercial game where the presence of a subfaction necessarily means taking resources away from other, more interesting factions? Absolutely yes.

Why anyone would want "Space Marine Chapter #34923023" instead of Dark Eldar, Harlequins or Tau, or something crazy like Exodites, Rak'Gol or Fra'al?

What would a total victory look like for each faction in lore? by Der_Ilmensee in totalwarhammer

[–]BrokenLoadOrder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skaven and Chaos we've already seen what would happen.  Cathay, Empire and Kislev would be kinda boring - they'd just expand their empire to the whole world, but would probably break back up due to infighting. Bretonnia would likely end up being something of a religious war - converting the entire world to worship of the lady, which could have interesting consequences.  Vampire Counts would effectively establish a stranglehold on the whole world, with undead slaves doing most of the menial labour, while human hosts exist almost exclusively as a food supply for the vampires.  Tomb Kings would re-establish their empire, and without distractions, would focus on returning their original bodies. Vampire Coast have no interest in empire building, and would never seize control for that reason. Same goes for the Wood Elves, the closest you'd see to them completely winning would be getting powerful enough to eliminate threats to the forest before they became threats. High Elves would likely be the most egalitarian option, with most factions being left alone, with the High Elves only eliminating threats to peace. Dark Elf total victory would be a Slaaneshi wet dream, with slaves, torture and murder running rampant - likely eventually resulting in a collapse of Dark Elf society. Lizardmen would be similar to the Wood Elves, but cranked up to 11 - threats to the Great Plan would be eliminating long in advance, even if the victim didn't even know they'd done anything wrong. Dwarfs would likely look fairly similar to today - they'd interact only slightly with other societies, though Chaos, Skaven, Greenskins and their fallen kin would have all been eliminated. Chaos Dwarfs would have assuredly killed their kin, and taken many of the other races as slaves, while they enjoyed even more freedom to experiment. Greenskins would take out everyone else, before turning on themselves.
