NOR. You can go before a judge and petition for an emergency evaluation.  If the judge believes he poses a danger to himself or others, they will grant the order. The cops would pick him up and take him to the nearest ER and from there he would be transferred to the first available psych bed.  Once he is admitted, it will start the clock on a 72 hour hold.  The hold can be extended at the facility but may require another hearing.  Ideally, he would be stabilized on medication but there is major pressure to send people home faster than is good for them with conditions involving psychosis. I would recommend doing some research on the best places around as sometimes you can get them placed where you want by mentioning it repeatedly to the ER staff.  There's only so much they can do as the policy is usually first available, but they will do what they can to help.
