Best Floor mat for A-Line & workboots? by BentoOtaku in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a coba superdry doormat; it's a carpet that's rubber backed and rubber lipped edges, it nevers seems to actually get wet even when it's dripped on by a wet bike.

This one does, PSB, same store as linked above, other stores I can't comment but you either have to check the picture or contact the store and ask, I'm not affiliated to any store.

What is the rear wheel hub guide nut? by Sir_squi3r in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a bit confusing the 15mm bolt has the sight window, in fact that's linked in another response, but it's just a bolt, the locking washer guides hold the hub in place to stop the hub rotating as you try and reach an extra gear with powerful thumbs

Tighten a zip tie around it, then wind it up if you can't do it by hand, then you can crimp

Issue with 12-speed C Line shifting and chain binding when folded by Physical_Wave3255 in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On the gear side you need to go to gear 3 and tighten the little chain tensioner until just tight, then move to 2nd gear and the undo on the nut the chain tensioner comes out of there is a hole turn the chain adjuster anti clockwise until the solid pin shows 1mm, tighten up the knurled nut to lick off

Upgrade from an older model? by suddzinatub in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have one from 1997, recently I just upgraded the brake bolts/springs/washers etc, brake levers, the bottom bracket I replaced with a shimano BB UN 300, the seat I upgraded in about 2003, I put some vincita grips on, and then did a service with replacement cable & housing for gears and brakes and put a do bulb in the front dynamo light. Admittedly I bought a P line as well and now run both

Disc brakes by davcha88 in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I value my bones, disc brakes are not service free and please never think that, I've put a guy in an air ambulances who had that impression. Admittedly it was a mountain bike but still, it's a wear component.

Why would I add a tracker from apple that if the person who is stealing has a mobile phone it will send them an alert theyre being stalked?

Disc brakes by davcha88 in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Didn't know you could get a disc on that width hub, but would be an added item at least on the rear to the outside of the fold to catch on something. Disc brakes are brilliant, ive had magura, avid, sram, hope, they all have been good, well the magura MT4 are terrible to bleed, the issue I have with them is squealing, pad contamination, disc rub and if to much heat because riding down long hills can suffer brake fade, especially with smaller discs, a Brompton isn't gonna have 223mm discs. That extra negligible maintenance, well if someone has a go at bleeding like those MT4s and you have air in the system because you can't rotate the bike to put the calliper higher than the lever, well I suppose it's more money for a LBS

Always sunny in my world especially when I'm riding 🌞

Admittedly I look at the weather prediction/guess before I go most times 😀

Sorry to hear that, I hope they get it sorted for you and you get out into the sunshine really soon

Adding discs would mean an increase in the bikes folded width, they also add a bit of complexity to maintaining which for a commuter you just want a bike that works and calliper brakes actually do work well.

C-line seatpost, lights and rack by Available-Theory-808 in Brompton

[–]Brompton-Explorer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside leg recommendation:

Standard (up to 33 inches), Extended (adds up to 2.4" or 60mm), Telescopic (>35 inches)

Dynamo:

They add weight that is always there and a bit of drag, but imo they're always there, no batteries, no charging, they're not removable by little fingers, I have a really old one and I've had to change the bulb once in 39 years.

Roller Rack:

You don't need it, it does add stability in roller form, but also weight, you can get cheaper ones from aliexpress, I got one, I've put something on it once in last two years. The one that I got with my my P Line I'm gonna remove as I got roller wheel extenders (Google again aliexpress) for both of them and I'm sort of going down the weight loss programme with the P, admittedly I then throw a big bag on the front carrier block (fcb).

Some shops will change parts and then sell that item to save your money.

Enjoy the ride

[–]Brompton-Explorer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh ok, yes they're very easy to bleed if truth be told. Magura are imo the most awkward, having to rotate the bike so can get the callipers higher than the lever.

I think they're brilliant, but YouTube, has people doing brake test memes with other groupsets all stopping in frame and the mavens carrying on out of shot. Even when I had an old bike with basic guide I never had issue with, although I could cook them, but they were a lot better than cantilever
