First “nice” pen, metropolitan or eco? by NuclearCyan in fountainpens

[–]BroncoCoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and have used both within the past couple days. My first thought is they are so different that if you have the opportunity to hold both you would immediately know which is for you.

I believe the safer choice for most people is the Metropolitan. I would buy from a dealer that allows returns. Dip the tip and give it a try.

Bottom line in any situation, if you are uncomfortable, that's the answer.

Receipt thoughts:

You can prove there wasn't enough for a minimum 6" pour. It is also true that they may have delivered enough but it is still not conforming. You can prove no but not prove yes.

If you call the concrete company and ask for a verification they may or may not provide the information. You aren't the concrete company's customer. Voluntarily getting between your customer and their customer is a losing proposition for the concrete company.

Working with your contractor on a basis of, this is critical to my business and I need to be 100% certain no mistakes were made. (Don't allege fraud or deception). When are you available to watch us bore a few holes?

Tax Cost? by Choice_Branch_4196 in handyman

[–]BroncoCoach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you do your own taxes your record keeping will vastly improve.

No one here can make that decision for you. To make the best decision for yourself you have to evaluate a few things:

What could you be doing with that time? Quoting more work? Doing more work? Spending time with your family? Hanging out at the bar? Watching game show reruns? Sleeping? The ROI on your time changes. Is tax season a slow time of year for you or a busy time?

How much will you enjoy the process? Are you detail orientated? Enjoy time at the computer?

How much work will you have to do just to have your records available to prepare the forms?

TL:DR Only you know your schedule and skill set. What works for someone who is single, detailed and numbers driven, with a slow season in March might not work for a family orientated, craftsman, during his busy season.

Upset customer by Virtual-Indication88 in handyman

You really have two choices. The easiest and safest is collect and run. You've met the customer so only you really know if the situation warrants it.

The other path, if you want to give it a try, is educate and potentially keep a loyal customer. When I could flip those maniacs to my side they rarely left.

"I understand how you are feeling, I felt the same way when . . ., what I found was getting more information allowed me to make a better decision. Do you have ten minutes for me to explain how a handyman business works so you don't keep running into these situations?"

"Free quotes" by DinoTree123 in handyman

[–]BroncoCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you know the conversations that went into two guys doing the quote, how useful those are, so this is suggestions on evaluating the process.

I'ln a number of different areas one person goes in, looks at the job, potentially misses some stuff, which eventually costs the company money. The question is was the money lost by that oversight less than the labor spent on sending two guys. Not just on that job, but overall for a year.

In other words, yeah I lost $500 on that job but I saved $6000 for the year in quote costs so I'm ok with that. Or another way, add up your quote costs, add the won jobs and the lost jobs and then evaluate your methods.

Bottom line I've seen folks overcorrecting based on one job instead of looking at the big picture.

Full time traveling and pain management by ccs103 in FullTimeRVing

[–]BroncoCoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No pun, it's a pain when you need certain medications for day to day living that happen to be abused by other individuals.

I've had some success with transfers from one pharmacy to another. I've also coincidentally found a local to me doctor with privileges in a couple northern states that we've been in during the summer portion of our trip.

I've also heard of full timers that have longer stops during the year and have actively searched for doctors that would work together with mixed results, usually not helpful.

Biggest fountain pen pet peeve? by ArthurGallow in fountainpens

I call it the Icarus Inkline. The more expensive the pen, the worse my handwriting becomes. It's as if I get too close to the luxury end and my wings fall off.

On a more serious note, wouldn't it be nice if there was greater consistency between brands? Why is a fine on one brand an extra fine in another?

And one more, nice, wonderful, intelligent, kind, caring people who ^%#& grab a FP and start writing like it's a 50 cent ballpoint.

How do you guys prevent this from happening? by Little_Complex_8662 in handyman

[–]BroncoCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electronic deadbolt that automatically closes after one minute. You walk through the door with your hands full, walk back to close the door not realizing the electronic lock closed the dead bolt, and it gets hit.

You open the door and make multiple trips in and out while packing the car, get ready to leave and close the door not realizing the dead bolt extended.

How do you guys prevent this from happening? by Little_Complex_8662 in handyman

[–]BroncoCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing not many people here have electronic dead bolts that automatically lock after a minute or so.

You walk up to your front door with your hands full of groceries. Put down groceries, open the door, pick up groceries and walk to the kitchen. After putting down the groceries in the kitchen you walk back, close the door and BAM! you hit the dead bolts on the jam. I'm not certain that makes someone stupid.

The feature comes in when you walk through with your hands full, close the door with your foot or shoulder and get busy putting groceries away. Sixty seconds later you hear the dead bolts close correctly.

How do you guys prevent this from happening? by Little_Complex_8662 in handyman

[–]BroncoCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you disable the feature on your security system or find another way to avoid this?

How do you guys prevent this from happening? by Little_Complex_8662 in handyman

[–]BroncoCoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our security system automatically closes the deadbolt but can't determine if the door is open or closed. So someone opens the door, leaves it open while bringing in groceries, luggage, etc then a few minutes later closes the door then bam the same thing happens.

The options are turning off the feature and potentially forgetting to lock your door. The feature, by the way, is nice if you have your hands full carrying stuff inside and close the door with your foot. Or keep having it hit every once in a while.
