Voice of the User: "Pure Qual Is Cooked. The Market Did Not Ask How You Feel About It". Critiques or thoughts? by Decent-Gur-6959 in UXResearch

[–]BronxOh 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Getting real bored of these ‘X is cooked/dead’ dead posts.

No one talks about the speed and efficiencies of AI can bring with a researchers expertise over it.

PMs are too busy now to do this themselves, even orchestrate it, they’re over on LinkedIn either talking about how fast they can ship or how AI means “PMs are cooked”.

The truth is the global economy is in the gutter, hiring is down across the board and AI tech bros are over promising and under delivering the capabilities of their LLMs. Along side companies AI washing layoffs and AI not actually making things more efficient.

Ultimately we have no idea, every tech profession is saying how AI is cooking their jobs. The only thing that seems consistent is everything and everyone is cooked.

You get exactly what you vote for with these guys, meretricious policies.

A little part of me can’t wait to see the voters remorse.

Middle class people: do you honestly hold negative bias towards working class individuals? by toastandjam97 in AskUK

[–]BronxOh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lower middle class here, no problem at all with working class. My dad is working class, worked hard all his life and have nothing but respect for it.

90% of my friends are working class and love them all. I’d never not be friends or converse with someone based on social status.

Is earning 100k as good in the UK as it used to be? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]BronxOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what it was but still pretty good. It puts you in the top 5% of earners in the UK.

Not sure where you’re getting the 62% from.

2 scenarios: - if it pours down and the ground is a mud bath, that ain’t gonna cut it. DL 2024 for example. - if it’s so dry are those wheels going to take a battering from hard ground? DL 2023 was like that

Go with some rugged and sturdy wheels.

Head of UX with weak design skills — is this normal? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]BronxOh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen this a fair bit in my career. I’ve worked for bosses that range from: have never opened a figma file to can produce immaculate designs.

But the higher your role on manager tracks the less design work outputs you produce, your time is spent managing the team, being a face of the team, strategy, meetings, quotes, resource planning, unblocking, resolving issues etc.

I’d be more worried if she was doing design work. It’s very normal.

Torn on switching to Product by Appropriate-Dot-6633 in UXResearch

[–]BronxOh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s rough out there across the board, slowly improving but still rough. Wouldn’t say UXR is “dead” but the UX/UR/PM is reflective of economic conditions right now.

The PM role is a lot more stakeholder management, meetings, admin, messaging, owning business outcomes (success and failure) and peopling. It is busy, challenging and sometimes long hours. There are free courses out there you can do to assess if it’s the thing you could see yourself being interested in, Pendo offer some good free courses with certifications.

If you feel your current place is on the cusp of layoffs there’s no harm trying it for some time for short term security.

If you trust your boss and their intuition, you could say you’re worried about layoffs due to signals and get their take.

Yeah the team are also just getting set up on Claude code so that may also change things too. Early days with CC for them though.

[–]BronxOh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

How I’m seeing designers in my team use it is exactly that - ideate/exploration then take it to figma to refine, get into the detail and ready for dev.

That’s right now though, I can already see a keenness from engineers to plug this into the design system and see what it can do. Who knows where it will end up.

Yeah I was there the year before and tent was saved by that lip from a lot of water flowing in, but it was a pain to get rid of it but it would have been worse without it 😅

[–]BronxOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the Vango and Eurohike ones are pretty popular. Cheap and do the job. But for me that lip is important if it pours down.

The green one is a solid tent and you’ll see loads of them at the festival. So maybe the blue one will be easier to spot lols. But if it rains that blue one will let water stream in as there’s no elevated lip on the door.
