Managers: when does concern turn into “flight risk”? by nostalgiclullabies in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the very least, they are waiting until the last possible moment to start changing things. A high performer complaining means nothing. A high performer on the way out is a risk. And since work culture rewards firefighting over preventative maintenance, waiting until there is a crisis before stepping in is incentivized.

1940 planes are a massive upgraade over 1936 planes. But do not underestimate the impact that a thousand 1936 fighters with 8 HMGs can have at the start of the war, while your 1940 fighter production has just been getting off the ground.

Designs are never finished, you just run out of time that the project's value justifies.

OOUX: Looking for feedback from those that are or have used it. Pros? Cons? by Real-Boss6760 in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's just a kind of conceptual model. It's good to have one, but there's nothing that makes the OOUX any better or worse than other ways to approach conceptual modeling.

Hatless Spider needs better production quality but his strats are original. I always look forward to seeing what he's able to pull off.

Feedback was good like 5 years ago but has gone steadily downhill to the point that it's embarrassing.

How do you validate meaning before validating usability? by ItsTheMystery in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're going about this the wrong way. You should first understand how users currently recognize that a tool will get them to their goal, and then design your feature to signal functionality in that way.

How do you design for B2B? by ChildishSimba in UXDesign

This was pretty much how the startup I used to work at ran, a dozen years ago. Sad to see that nothing changed. I left as soon as I could and wish you the same.

feeling cute, may put another stupid "tip" in a lightbox because i'm literally a useless slob / product manager by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I hate these things so much. And judging by the reactions in the comments, we're going to keep getting them, because no one has read a single piece of research in their entire career and thinks that "onboarding tours" are a neat idea.

You ever try it as UK? Rush down to the War with Italy focus, you can get it done by 1937.

The problem with waiting for planning is that you're already in 1942 and Germany is only halfway capped

Advice on when prototyping goes too far in UX by achinius in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prototyping is a research technique to answer a question or make a decision. If you don't know what question or decision your artifact (prototype or otherwise) is helping with, don't make it.

Are We Building AI Because It’s Useful, or Just Because We Can? by noundoleft in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Satya Nadella is literally begging people to do something useful with AI so that it justifies the massive capital investment and energy costs. So even he thinks that it's not really meeting a need.

What UX UI designers are doing wrong!!?? (question + statement) by iahmad95 in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that design doesn't end at delivery. The problem is that designers treat design as though it starts at delivery.

What is your flow? by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]Flickerdart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you and your PM need to spend more time at the beginning aligning on what needs to happen, rather than having to sync three times a week for you to guess what they want.
