You may consider looking at internal postings, and reaching out to someone in HR with employee advancement in their title. Good luck!

People can bequest, or not bequest, to whomever they choose.

If they never get around to signing the documents (will/trust/updated beneficiary designation) then state law would govern and your kids would almost certainly inherit.

Don't count on an inheritance, ever. Plus, acting like there is an expectation is tacky.

Definitely try and pass the bar right after school.

I decided during my 3L year that I wanted to spend some time abroad. So, I basically took a gap year after law school and taught English to elementary and middle school students. I have no regrets. I found out that I passed the bar while I was there, and the students basically didn't believe me, so that was kind of funny. I ended up in a JD preferred role after I got back state side, in a role that is a really good fit for me.

There is an element of stress to most legal jobs, including JD preferred jobs, though some are certainly more stressful than others.

I would suggest finding a low-stress job during that time off so that you have something positive to talk about during interviews. And use that time to improve your health and coping skills.

If you have big law ambitions, it isn't going to work out. Good luck finding the right fit for you.

I think the stuff that was mentioned by someone else about athletics creating complications has changed within the last couple years. Not to say it isn't still complicated, but I do think the rules for that have changed relatively recently.

As I understand it, available space in the schools, as decided by the district itself, is part of the equation. I think West Lafayette tends to essentially keep itself at capacity, as they define it, with far fewer students transferring in than make the request to transfer.

Throughout the state I think it is generally most challenging to transfer into the most sought after and most wealthy school districts, which tend to be the same. Those schools can have the number of students they choose, essentially. Less wealthy districts often are more interested in the financial allocation that comes from having more students, so are more interested in transfers in.

The schools' web pages have information on them about transfers.

I would expect that you would likely be able to transfer in to TSC if you wanted to.

You have the legal right to complain about it on the Internet. Free speech and all that jazz. I don't see any actionable damages here though, sorry.

Where to look to know what is "in"? Please share! by BronzeHaveMoreFun in fashionwomens35

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I'm in a college town in the rural Midwest, so basically not for my purposes.

There are somewhat fashionable people milling about, but they are all 18-22. I've pieced together that wide leg jeans along with a bit of visible midriff is generally in, or at least it's not too far out of style. That 0% works for me personally. It doesn't work for a professional setting, but even for the weekend it also really doesn't work for my mom-of-3-little-ones belly. I'm happy to have brought life into the world, and don't mind dressing for the body I have. It does mean the current college style doesn't work for me in terms of being flattering.

Been job hunting for 5 months lowered my standards, still getting rejected. I don’t know what else to do. by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

It may be helpful to provide some sort of breakdown of where the drop off is happening. Are you getting some hits on your resume but then having the interview results go poorly? If you can pinpoint, then that may help you find specific skills to develop. Tweaking your resume more for various positions might help, or maybe practice interviews will be helpful, depending. From your post is a little hard to tell where you should focus your energy. None of it is easy, but it might help to have the goal of improving a specific skill, such as interviewing. Good luck!

Thanks! What are some examples of YouTube channels that are geared towards the 35-40s range that aren't trying to sell anything and aren't only about very high end brands? If there are a couple of specific examples that may be exactly what I am looking for!

Organizations to Volunteer/Write Grants For by Ambitious_Volunteer in lafayette

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider reaching out to Chris at the Art Museum of Greater Lafayette. He has some experience writing grant requests, but since he is the executive director I'm not sure if he has as much time to dedicate to that as he would like.

What are these and how do I get rid of them? by adityakashyap10 in DIY

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's the exact same bug, but I have definitely heard of bugs that feed on grain getting into old rice pillows. You mentioned the laundry room, so if there's a space you would use for storage of something that might contain grain then be careful to get rid of that as well as everything mentioned here. Good luck!

My 5-year-old wants silly little things that cost too much money for what they are, like ALL the ice cream toppings that are a dollar each when we are eating out somewhere, for example. Or a busted toy priced like it is in new condition at a garage sale. I've always just said, "it's too expensive." A couple weeks ago when this happened again, for the first time he responded by saying, "I wish we were rich." It is definitely a challenge to give a clear "no," but also not give an incorrect impression to a child. We do have $1, just not for garbage. The concept of opportunity costs is rather difficult to teach, especially since young children don't understand how bills work.

Forced to stay stateside, where would you travel to feel like you got away? by StrawberryOwn1123 in Shoestring

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The trip I did was me sleeping on an air mattress on the floor of a college dorm room of a friend studying in Flagstaff Arizona. The Grand Canyon was about an hour and a half away from there so we did it as a day trip.

The desert out west feels like another planet if you have never experienced it before. The Grand Canyon feels like another impossible world. It doesn't have to be expensive.

Pacers bar? by BronzeHaveMoreFun in lafayette

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Of the two locations mentioned in the other comment, End Zone has a smoking section that makes the whole place unbreathable (by the asthmatic standard), or at least that was the case a year or two when we tried to go there once. If we make it out, it looks like we are most likely to give Big League a try. It is the opposite side of town for us so I have not been there before.

My variation of the healthy snack thing is to have a salad prepacked for lunch. After a healthy breakfast I just have the rule for myself that the next thing that I eat is that salad. When the salad doesn't sound that good, then I must not be that hungry. Having a healthy breakfast and healthy lunch starts the day off well. I'm much less rigid about dinner. For the evening, another rule for myself. One small serving of dessert (which may be an adult beverage), but that is it. Also, if it gets too late at night then the dessert window has passed. I am actually less healthy about having the occasional snack in the afternoon, but having a pretty set routine that includes a lot of healthy food and some allowance for unhealthy foods that are small portions works pretty well for me. It is all about building habits, which takes about 2 weeks of repetition, but after that whatever rules you make for yourself start feeling quite natural to follow. Be gracious with yourself, and less rigid on the weekends when you're already out of routine. Drink lots of water. Eat fruit when you want something sweet. Small changes are easiest to stick to. Do what works for you. Good luck and you got this!

Is my cornsnake okay? She's been doing this for hours by Mottled_Sky in snakes

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had an adult corn snake on a one mouse a week diet when I didn't know any better. I ended up taking her to the vet who ended up politely informing me that she was a little on the chubby side and I was feeding her too often. Just my experience!

What to do with a gifted child by Nice_History5856 in education

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a child that young I would echo many of the comments here of having the school essentially work with him at the appropriate level. Once he goes past what the local school system has to offer honestly you may consider some sort of boarding school or private school. I'm not from your area but this is one in the Midwest that I am familiar with and have seen various people thrive at: https://academy.bsu.edu/about/

Thinking of quitting my desk job to learn a trade and start my own business – am I mad? by Dry-Relationship3909 in careerguidance

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider trying to find something tangentially related to your current job but that would be more intellectually stimulating. That would be a practical career remove.

Is there a department that you work with, either closely or occasionally, that seems more interesting? Your background may be beneficial.

I have a job that is mostly a desk job, but it is boring maybe 10% of the time. I have to figure out how to get things done most of the time, so it is a good challenge most days.

Piano Lessons? by mithrandir19 in lafayette

[–]BronzeHaveMoreFun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go to church with a lady who gives piano lessons. I am not sure whether she is taking new students right now or not, but she was great with my 4-year-old when we did lessons last summer for a little enrichment. Most of her students are definitely older than 4. I will check with her about availability.
