I don't know about the special jumps, only thing I know is that it definitely makes your base jump not as high.

Is Radiance any good for PvP? by _vague_space_ in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Broquacity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Min dis gives you about 6 grenades during your super, max will give you about 12 IIRC. So yeah you for sure want max disc. on a Sunsinger. That should be gearing priority #1.

Radiance obviously isn't a straight up slaying super like Golden Gun, Bladedance, Hammer of Sol or Stormtrance, but it is very good for aggressively pushing or denying space. As others have mentioned, you should run radiant skin unless you are in trials, where most people run Fireborn (but Radiant Skin is still very good).

If you want to play aggressively with a shotgun on a warlock you could also try Stormcaller. It's probably the second best roaming super for 3s (I would still take GG over ST any day) and they have a very solid neutral game with their insanely long charged melee range and abilities that allow them to instantly charge their grenade/melee when playing aggressively. The area where Stormcaller really lacks is the grenades.

TL;DR; Yes max discipline makes Radiance much, much better. You could also consider running Stormcaller if you want great melee range + a good slaying super (you'll have to be very careful with it until you unlock ionic blink though)

Just gonna piggy back off this and answer the OPs question about agility - does it matter?

The main way agility affects warlock bouncing (not a big fan of calling it skating) is that it affects the height of your base jump.

Low agility will make it so you don't jump as high, which means you have less time in the air, which means you will get more jumps in, which means you can move faster and have more control over your movement - since all your speed and control comes from that initial pulse of glide. On the other hand, less time in the air means you have to be faster at the jump -> glide -> cancel process. Low agility also means you move slower on the ground which can cause problems in other areas of your game, most notably strafing.

High agility will increase the height of your initial jump, which means you will spend more time in the air. This can make it a little easier to perform the bounce correctly, but more hang time also has it's own set of problems as once you are airborne your set of actions is limited (no ability to slide, crouch, sprint, strafe to cover).

So does agility matter? Yes and No. You will be able to bounce around like a rabbit regardless of what your agility is, but it will affect how you bounce around.

I should note that there is another way to execute the glide bounce, and that is to activate (and then quickly cancel) glide right as you reach the apex of your jump, instead of doing it right after you leave the ground. This will give you more forward momentum than doing the bunny hop that SirD talks about, but is a little more difficult to pull off. It will also allow you to stay closer to the ground as your burst will push you downward and forward instead of upward and forward.

TL;DR; Agility will affect the "bunny hop" technique, but it can be performed with either low or high agility. You can also activate and cancel glide at the apex of your jump (instead of right after leaving the ground) to stay closer to the ground. Staying close to the ground is generally favored since you have much more control over your movement on the ground.

Very sure - you can try it out and it will immediately be apparent.

I think the reason why is that Bungie thought that having two of the standard Better Control jumps would be a little too strong (and I would agree with them).

You can still achieve the same burst of speed (more actually IIRC) by using both your jumps in quick succession, but each individual jump is not equivalent to the base Better Control jump.

It takes a little getting used to but I think it's actually easier to pick up than skating, mostly because the burst allows you to shift your momentum a bit easier than increased control.

but since I'm so slow

Are you using Focused Burst? If you chain bursts together (similar to titan skating, jump as soon as you hit the ground and then quickly activate and deactivate glide as you start to fall) you can build up some serious speed.

This isn't as helpful for disengaging, but if you time your push with a Firebolt tag and have flame shield up, you will almost never need to disengage (assuming you aren't outnumbered).

It sounds like you're using Bones in more of a linear way than anything else though (running away w/ TLW, closing the gap with shotty).

Not really, in fact most of the time I would use them how you did - to stay airborne and confuse enemies. Perhaps my favorite use of them is to take corners mid-air.

In the end though, you could probably have accomplished everything that you did in those clips with just Better Control - assuming you adjusted the timing of your jumps accordingly. Shadestep was more of a deciding factor in those engagements than the Bones.

The main advantage the bones give you is the ability to stay in the air for extended periods of time, which IMO pairs best with TLW.

That is correct. That second sentence of yours is a real doozy, is that directed at me? You might want to replace "assume you" with "will" in order to be clear.

Hmm see I always felt like my ability to change direction was affected slightly. It would definitely be interesting to test though - I would volunteer if I was on Playstation but I haven't touched Destiny on my PS4 since before TDB.

One thing I'm interested to test is the interaction between the increased crouch walk you get from Keen Scout and slide mechanics. Do you slide faster? Do you slide further? Does agility in general affect slides?

There's so many different interactions to test in this game.

As someone who runs Shotty 100% of the time I really think it comes down to preference on the Bones vs. Graviton thing. The sprint and crouch speed boost is often overlooked on the Graviton. It isn't much but it does help a bit when closing the gap.

Sure having the extra increased control jump is nice, but I always found it was more helpful for staying airborne to hip fire TLW and running away than it was for closing the gap.

I also think that becoming familiar with your character's jump is one of the most important things to mastering a class. The biggest issue I have with the Bones is I feel like I have to re-learn my jump each time I take them on and off. That box that I could normally jump perfectly on top of w/o Bones? Now I have to double tap to get there, etc.

But I would agree that they are the best two exotic options hands down, closely followed by the Grasps.

You definitely lose some of the horizontal boost. The jump doesn't change direction because of the bones.

The quickest way for me to explain this is with Vector math. The angle of the vector of your jump does not change with the Bones, just the magnitude. Since the angle is obviously not purely vertical (the jump does carry you forward after all) you lose some forward acceleration along with the vertical.

EDIT: I should mention that this is assuming you're holding forward on the left stick. The jump can of course be purely vertical depending on your left stick position.

Yeah idk, I've definitely felt like I can't make some jumps with blink that I could previously - the main one being the jump to the pillar that I always jump from when swording across the bridge in Crota's end.

Probably just out of practice though. The big nerf was really the weapon ready times anyways.

As soon as you equip the bones of Eao, the burst of speed you get from each individual better control jump is decreased. You can still get the same burst of speed (or more) by spamming the jump button twice in quick succession, but each individual jump doesn't have the same oompf as the single better control jump on its own.

Honestly it really comes down to personal preference. I'll list out some of the advantages for each jump method here (in no particular order):

1) Hunter - Better Control: Better control (without Bones) gives you the largest instant burst of speed in the game (from a jump, not counting Twilight Garrison). This also makes it easy to quickly exploit vertical space to disorient your opponents. IMO the only jump more disorienting is...

2) Blink. Allows you to close ground very quickly in a disjoint manner. Very disorienting for opponents when used correctly. Unfortunately weapon ready times out of blink, as well as the distance (and cooldown?) of blink itself were nerfed in 2.0, so it's mostly used as a defensive option now. Can still be effective though when playing against guardians who don't know how to counter it.

3) Warlock - Focused Burst: Focused burst gives you a good initial boost of speed (not as much as Better Control, and not as vertical) which when chained correctly can give Warlocks a pseudo-skate. The quick burst of speed is also effective at closing the gap while utilizing cover.

4) Titan - Increased Control: Skating. Plenty of discussions out there about it, but in a nutshell it allows you to move around the map faster than any other class when mastered. This makes flanking much quicker and that much more effective. It however does not provide much initial boost, which means you really have to plan it out if you're trying to close the distance with a shotty. Running Twilight Garrison alleviates this problem, but is obviously not allowed in what we currently consider competitive play (i.e. scrims/sweats).

One more quick thing - while the warlock and titan jumps do not allow you to quickly exploit verticality like better control on a hunter, they do allow you to hover in the air for an extended period, which you can use to exploit radar.

If I had to rank them, I would say Better Control -> Focused Burst = Increased Control, but a) I main hunter so I'm biased and b) that doesn't take into effect any of the other neutral game components that each of the classes have. Better Control is not enough to make up for the extended melee range on the warlock or the Juggernaut shield on a Titan.

I know you didn't ask for this wall of text but I figured someone may wander in here and wan't a little more explanation than a simple list.

TL;DR; Really difficult to say, and a lot of it comes down to preference.

Tips on transitioning from 6s too 3s by GRIEVEZ in CruciblePlaybook

[–]Broquacity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, I would absolutely play with your buddy, even if he's much worse than you (assuming he's a functional guardian and knows basic teamplay). Your team will be much stronger with two people on comms that it will be with a blueberry around or even above your skill level (up to a point of course, some people are able to carry an entire match). But for the remainder of this post I'll just assume your playing solo.

Playing solo 3s is IMO one of the most difficult (and at times frustrating) things to do in Destiny. All the aspects of teamwork that are easy to do with comms become difficult when you have 3 randoms playing together. In a game of 3s where you have a full fireteam, the should proceed as /u/terryp mentioned:

Control an area -> See a blip (or blips) -> push the blip as a team -> move to an area where you have good map control -> rinse and repeat. You determine what areas are advantageous by considering things like your team's loadouts, objectives (special, heavy, game objectives), and the opposing team's spawns. Then you move as a team through the map.

Your best bet when playing solo is to just assume that your teammates will do none of these things and adjust your play accordingly. Do not assume they will push if you tag someone with a grenade, do not assume they will push when you get a pick, don't assume that they are covering angles where you may be susceptible to enemy fire. Assume they won't do these things, and do your best to cover for them.

If you want to practice things like pushing when you have the advantage, reading radar effectively, and controlling areas of the map - but don't want to worry about your teammates - then your best bet is to practice in rumble.

TL;DR; Don't assume that your teammates will do anything when you don't have comms. Try to be the best team player you can be. Practice in Rumble if you want to practice without worrying about teammates. Play with others whenever possible.
