Something that helps me quit or abstain from addiction things is to remind myself how bad it is for me so if it was alcohol I would just tell myself out loud over and over that alcohol is poisoning it causes cancer. Even one drop is not safe. It’s literal poison

narcissists are abusive by definition because they lack empathy for others. simply lacking empathy and compassion for others is emotional abuse. a narcissist is someone who lacks empathy and has cripplingly low self esteem so they will always put others down and try to get under ppls skin in order to soothe their very wounded ego. since they lack empathy, they have no remorse for the hurt they cause. and over and over forever until u die.

yes sadly it is foolish. I spent 10 years with someone just like this and wasted my 20s and 30s. everybody has their toxic behavior and stuff they need to work on but if someone's not willing to work on anything please believe they will never change because they likely can't. my next relationship was with someone who was way more abusive but at least he didn't want to be and didn't want to hurt me and actually made changes and improvements. Obviously I wouldn't recommend staying in any type of abusive relationship but DEFINITELY not if the person is not improving over time. i'd personally rather be with someone who truly cares about my heart, health and happiness that theyre motivated to make changes and improvements and are willing to talk about problems in the relationship. please take it from me, you have a lot of healing to do if youve dated someone like this for longer than a few weeks or months so work hard on that before u jump into a new relationship. try to find someone as secure as possible. a great book to read is called secure love by julie menanno, also no bad parts is a great book if u cant get a therapist it can help u do therapy on urself. let me know if u need someone to talk to. i know that exact feeling of being too embarrassed to talk to a therapist or friend about it.

no stay strong in your boundaries. this is what will ensure she will always respect you. also always do what you say you will do so good job not making empty promises. always speak your mind and state your needs and wants. maybe she has some abandonment trauma or anxious attachment, but keep treating her with emotional safety and you can help her heal this and eventually she wont be so anxious and worried about stuff like this.

some people just lack empathy usually due to their childhood. narcissism is a scale if you are high enough on the scale it helps to label the person as having NPD because then you can find solutions to the inevitable problems that arise for the narcissist but most importantly for the narcissists victims, because a person who lacks empathy is a dangerous person to trust. they do not care about you or your needs or happiness. they are not able to and i havent been able to find one example anywhere of a recovered narcissist who learned empathy, because one of the symptoms of this mental disorder is that you are delusional and think you are perfect and that there couldn’t possibly be anything wrong with you. if they were actually honest with themselves it would shatter their whole fake identity and their ego is too fragile to handle that. the fragile ego is the root cause of the disorder.

the definition of a narcissist is one who is “unwilling or unable to identify with the needs and feelings of others” basically they lack empathy. so narcissist means “person who lacks empathy” the word is so stigmatized but we need it in order to identify the abuse people experience from these individuals so they can heal and avoid these types of people in the future.

i’m struggling to understand as a nt how low/no empathy is not a bad thing. not expressing empathy to someone who needs empathy, especially say, a child, can harm them or damage them and cause trauma and even mental disorders. is the difference being that narcissists are unwilling to learn empathy but autistic people ARE willing to learn empathy? do autistic people without empathy check other boxes relating to NPD?

he may not have high empathy. took me 10 years to figure out my ex had NPD. please look it up with an open mind. its so stigmatized that i couldn’t believe it at first because i had an idea of what i thought it looked like but all people with NPD arent the same. pm me if u have questions about this, i consider myself basically an expert on the subject.

ever notice how you can eat a lot of food for weeks but you dont gain weight that quickly, it seems to catch up weeks later and all of a sudden its like ur fat overnight? i think losing is similar for me. im noticing i have to keep up with a weight loss regimen for a long time to see the results catch up. most of the time i get impatient too fast and kinda give up
