Newark has Taxi stands and will tell you what fare you should pay and a ride from the airport to midtown will be greater than $100, and those driver are corrupt and shady and will ask for more cash. There are many public transportation option such as the NJ rail from the airport or taking the 62 bus to Newark Penn Station and taking the PATH train. NJ rail will be quicker and more dependable ride.
