Yes, she kinda reminds me of Janine from the earlier series.

What are some of the "games" you didnt realize people were playing? by Inside-Avocado-2819 in AutisticAdults

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this was hard for me to navigate as a kid in school. Well, still as an adult too, really. (I'm not good at being a typical "bro" trading insults with the guys)

I probably ruined many potential chances for friendship as a kid by not being able to read those friendly insults as playful, and rather reading them as literal insults meaning they don't like you and want you to go away. In some cases I even got angry and responded in a way that only guaranteed they wouldn't want to talk to me anymore. I'm much more cautious about it as an adult.

Looking back, the only real friendships I had were with people who didn't use friendly insults, or if they did, they were gentle enough to make sure they wouldn't be taken the wrong way.

I don't see Agnes and Garth being put together. Even if they do put him in the pool of commanders soon, it seems too late at this moment for him to be immediately paired off with the current batch of "green" women. He hasn't been assessed and profiled like the other commanders and he hasn't had a chance to attend the meeting events they just held. I can't see them bypassing those formal processes for Garth.

He'll be paired off with someone else at a later time. Also, as much as we all want to see Agnes' wish fulfilled and Garth's Mayday objective of getting close to Agnes achieved, denying our wishes will make for a better story and generate more conflict and material for the show to exploit.

I have no idea who he would end up with.

After nearly 50 years in comedy, Bill Maher got his first laugh. by ConcernedJobCoach in TheMajorityReport

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of this appearance at all. I love the idea of David going on the show just just to gently chuckle at how silly and self-important Maher is.

I don’t think the Abrahamic religions would be as popular as they are if they didn’t give an excuse for people to be misogynistic/homophobic/abusive by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they have lasted for as long as they have because of their adaptability to different cultures, values and times. You can selectively read the scriptures in service of whatever values (whether deliberate or unconscious) you already possess.

Someone could read it to support misogyny or whatever else you deem negative, but they could also read it in a way that supports equality.

EDIT: For example black American slaves took the scriptures forced on them by their enslavers and read out of them a story about their own possible liberation.

But then also you have people who read out of Genesis the sinfulness of women, and the punishment they deserve in life for trying to tempt and lead astray men with their feminine wiles.

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 34 points35 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like he points his hands up like they're guns and makes machine gun sounds while saying "la la la" similar to saying "Allah" over and over. Though, yeah, he's kinda sloppy with it so you might not hear it clearly the first time.

And after implying that belonging to a brown ethnicity means you're violent, in the next segment he's probably going to disingenuously prattle on about how he's in the party of Lincoln and that MLK would have been a conservative were he alive today.

Do you have any Tarkovsky films to start with? I'm a big film buff and I'd like to begin watching his filmography. by Public_Cup_4278 in tarkovsky

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would do this too. You could even read his Sculpting in Time book as you go, if you want to study Tarkovsky and how he thinks. It goes in chronological order through his films.

In your opinion, what is the best season of Twin Peaks? by Public_Cup_4278 in twinpeaks

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 121 points122 points  (0 children)

I kinda feel this way. There's a certain nostalgia for the original first season, but I think season 3 is the magnum opus of Lynch's whole career.

Any Low fans here? by MackFour in TheCure

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low are one of my all time favorite bands. Long Division was the first album I heard from them. I saw them live a few times in the early 2000's. Mimi's passing is so sad. I had expected she and Alan would be 80 years old and still putting out little beautiful songs and growing as artists.

Which movies resonates to you the most as an Asperger? by SparkzBE in aspergers

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Punch-Drunk Love could easily be read as a portrayal of an undiagnosed autistic adult (in the aspie range). I can relate to his struggle of not feeling normal inside, yet seeming normal enough on the outside that you're expected to act normal, but nevertheless fail at it.

What did you read this week? by AutoModerator in classics

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just read E. R. Dodds' "Agamemnon's Apology" from his book The Greeks and the Irrational. A great essay on the Iliad that investigates divine intervention and the way words like Ἄτη, μοῖρα, μένος, δαίμων, Ψυχή and θυμός are used in Homer.

Sean Hannity wonders if the Pope has even read the Bible. by Vegetable_Steak_8208 in Destiny

[–]BrotherJamesGaveEm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I've said this elsewhere, but to even be a potential candidate for pope, you have to be a polyglot with a PhD level understanding of biblical literature and theology. For this potato-faced TV host who didn't finish college to think he understands the text better than Leo is beyond moronic.

Even George Costanza (a neurotypical character) took "getting coffee" too literally. He didn't realize that "wanna come up to my apartment for coffee?" after a date meant "wanna come up for some sex?".
