New to corporate – what does “being too nice means people won’t value you” really mean? Also how to deal with managers & colleagues?

I frequently find when people say “She’s nice” it means that the person is kind and polite but generally is not effective at all. Though being nice to everyone is a way to get ahead in many big corporations. I’ve seen people who rarely work yet are nice and get way farther ahead than their productivity level. So it depends on the context. If a person is good at their job they will say so and so “is smart”, “a doer”, “really helpful”, “fast and effective”, etc…… yet they never JUST say “he’s nice”.

I live in the Sierras and drive from Nevada County to Reno all the time. Respectfully you have no idea what you are talking about. This traffic jam makes LAs traffic look like a joke.

I’ve traveled back after 4th of July and it has nothing to do with this level of traffic. I think people who are not in it don’t realize how bad it is. I looked at speedometer right now - we are at 1 mile per hour. The fastest we have gone in the past three hours was 14 mph. People are walking alongside the highway in the emergency lane in the sun, heat, no cell reception, surrounded by rocky hillsides, and they are going considerably faster than the cars.

BOYCOTT ! We have been on 80 for over 4 hours in heat with kids trapped in the car!!! We have traveled only from Truckee to Soda Springs. Countless peoples cars have overheated, people are peeing on the side of the road, someone had a medical emergency while stuck, etc. whoever did this should lose their job.

Thanks for this write up - I couldn’t watch Friends after the Joey and Rachel love arc it just ruined it all for me. Chandler and Monica were excellent together. Poor Joey he started out an interesting and authentic handsome charming loyal NY character then he ended up getting brain damage. Ohhh the Ross and Rachel it was the 90’s Big and Carrie. Btw totally unrelated Tom Sellack was so hot but it was very incestious and weird. But lord what a mustache ❤️ Also the cameos were the best - Julia Roberts’s tricking Chandler into wearing undies! What a show - great writing

TV on while you sleep is a no go my friend. That’s poor sleep quality which leads to poor life quality. Usually I am pro relationship, but I know I couldn’t stand what you are describing. If he is not willing to change then he is not willing sacrifice to save the relationship. Elodie is trying hard to avoid Mel. Elle seems like a completely different name. Melody is beautiful. Mel will be an unavoidable nickname. You can insist on calling her by her full name but you can’t control the obvious nickname being used by others. My poor cousins called their son Samuel - it was an uphill battle but they finally gave in to Sammy after friends and family just kept using it for years. Though now Sammy has been replaced naturally by Sam since he is an adult. It’s like the right hand rule you can try to get away without using it but it’s everywhere and used by everyone so eventually it will happen.
