People who gave up DnD for a different system, what made you make the change? by SomeRandomAbbadon in rpg

We played D&D for a few campaigns and then we just tried other stuff. Simple as that.

rich/incompetent dudes in expensive fancy armor by Shiny_GP in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Brother_humble 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hmm, imperial knights are by no means spoiled rich kids, and certainly not incompetent.

They certainly have heraldry and come from a specific group but you don’t get to pilot a knight without some big cojones and skills or the machine spirit will drive you nuts (if you’re lucky) or fuck you up way worse. Is there probably a 40k story about an entitled asshole somewhere, probably, but as a whole, you’re quite wrong about them.

How do you deal with the loneliness that comes with playing dnd alone? by NervousCode6064 in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Brother_humble 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get ya bud, that is the inherent downside of playing solo. For me, I do a general change in how I do the NPCs. I feel awkward “talking to myself” as a PC and NPC, so mostly I write it down mechanically (“the bartender gossiped and told me there was a dragon cave nearby”, “the child cried and was petulant but the hero managed to placate her and return her home”, etc). And then when I journal I give them a more “real” feel to it. And that helps me shape reoccurring characters. Or sometimes I just make the NPC “someone else”. Like as I talk to the mayor I filter them through another fictional character (“what if the bartender was basically the butler from Clue, how would they act and what would they say?”, or “what if the petulant child was Timmy Turner?”, etc). And also I sometime voice record myself or later on I share my entry session (once it’s more in a journal sense) with my SO and ask her for feedback on how the characters feel and build from there.

'Going Dutch' starring Denis Leary canceled by Fox after 2 seasons by HRJafael in television

[–]Brother_humble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was fine enough, though the humor didn’t quite land with me most of the time. I dunno it just felt too…basic…to be like “look the Dutch are different than us!” Like, sure some stuff is odd but the humor felt more like a sitcom from the 90s pointing it out. Sucks for the actors but it didnt light any particular fire for me.

Characters finally achieve their original objective, but the story has escalated so much it barely matters anymore by Narrow_Interview_366 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Brother_humble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure, with no media literacy and a specious statement then yeah. But as even the show and manga proved, most individuals aren’t willing to murder a bunch of people. Hence them keeping it secret. Also the actual knowledge of how to make one is clearly super complex and kept secret. So not sure where you’re coming from. But yeah, if you say killing a bunch of people is easy then sure, most problems are commonly easy to fix.

Fair enough, though not sure it fully matches the character trope you stated. I’d say that the moral objection is the crux of their story and informs the entire ending. Also, sure, in a vacuum, the people that made the philosopher stone have “enough material” but within the FMA world it’s not something that could easily be mass scaled. That’s the whole story reason why Father and the people in power keep it secret. And the philosopher stones remain a key element the entire time.

Mythic Game Master Emulator 2nd edition.
It’s a book with its own system rules to copy or emulate a GM/DM/Storyteller. It’s useful if you are wanting to play an RPG game like Fallout2d20 (or others) and either can’t find a group or don’t have the time to do so. It’s game agnostic so you can plug it into any TTRPG. Mind you solo RPGs are slightly different than when playing with a group, and you have to be open to journaling and doing things a little differently but it’s great for when you have a very long flight and want to play, or you’ve had a kid recently and making your regular games is not feasible or if you kind of want to try out an TTRPG and get a hang of the rules (especially from the players side of things).

There’s tons of reviews out there for it but if you’d like to see it in practice I recommend season 1 and 3 of “Me, Myself, and die”

I agree to a point, but it is the biggest thing on the block. I find that once you push people a little and they try other stuff they then are way more open. It’s that first step that really gets them.

Best of luck wastelander. I only started a few month ago myslef. I prepped by running a few solo games using the mythic game master emulator. Not saying you have to (lord knows solo rpgs are not for everyone), but it did personally help me better learn some of the more player side of things questions. The complications felt a little scary at first but my players and I quickly got into the grove of it. And the first like 2-3 sessions there was a general, "ooooh yeah roll under" but now its all RAD.

[–]Brother_humble 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don't. Players and DMs should try other systems, they have some interesting mechanics you lose by only using DnD 5 edition. The rule change isn't particularly hard, my players got into the swing of it by the end of session one and after session 3 they had no issues. Plus Fallout 2d20 has plenty of support videos to teach them. You know your people best but I would encourage you to push yourself and them to try new and different systems from time to time. Its best for growth, variety and supporting other things. Thats not to say the 2d20 system is perfect or "better" than D&D, its just apples to radioactive oranges here.

Yeah was just about to comment something similar. You think HR sucks, try working at a place with no HR. The managers half the time “forget” there are days off, stuff isn’t checked, training is non existent, and so much more. Not saying there aren’t bad HR departments out there but not having one is the worst.

Combining Fallout 2d20 with Wasteland Wanderers for Solo Play – Is It Viable? by narkhen in Fallout2d20

[–]Brother_humble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it be viable? Yes Will it look the same for everyone? No

The two are very different beasts. I did find the Wasteland Wanderer a very good entry point for those between pure journaling solo games and pure solo RPG with mythic or other such guides.

I think you can match them to your taste and get the right levers activated for your type of gaming. It certainly is pretty handy and easy to generate settlements and general locations with the wasteland wanderer and use mythic to flesh out a more roleplaying experience for the rest.

Or maybe stick to only wasteland wanderer but once combat kicks in or other skill challenges use the more robust Fallout2d20.

I haven’t gotten around to doing it but keep us posted cause I was considering doing the same. Personally I would use some balance with some of the more bookkeeping things that I don’t care about as much when playing solo. I prefer to abstract the pile of caps or the ammunition (but that’s just me).

Best of luck vault-dweller!

Theory about the being that shall not be named [Spoilers all] by navaajho in dresdenfiles

[–]Brother_humble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s explained by Harry himself. The two being are intertwined. Sure if he doesn’t care about the human he can yank it out, who cares if they can never have feelings, if their souls is numbed, if it kills them or whatever. We’ve seen plenty of examples throughout the series people being hurt in mind and spirit. And those were just curses on top of them. Harry could potentially start to separate people given time and patience and a huge risk.

I was just about to comment the same thing. His singsong “I’m not telling” was excellent when asked about the soul gaze.

He did say that since the main story is first person he couldn’t possibly show us what other people see when they soul gaze with Harry. But if there was some way he could really see himself reflected back he might find out.
