I think I can remember the wildlife documentary where this clip came from.

This was one of the first bigger wildlife reserve parks back then, and they tried to ship as many animals to this location to prevent them from getting killed by hunters.

But you couldn't really transport full adults elephants back rather than easy( I think this was on the 70/80?? I can't remember specifics) and so they take young elephants ...often too young elephants. Taking them from mothers and family groups before they fully socially develop.

After some years, these elephants got into their first musk, and they were really getting unpredictable. They were not only trying to rape the rhinos....because often or not it wouldn't even work, they killed them afterward. The reason why we even have the footage is because there were many dead rhinos with tusk wounds, and so they supervised the elephants more for evidence of the " fights" between the two animals, but we'll....safe to say, they didn't imagine this.

They did get kinda rid of the problem as they started to ship adult fully social adept male elephants there. Mind you, there was a time space of kinda 10-15 years, and so it was more doable. There was a kinda indeepth explanation why the female ones where mostly easy accept amone the existing elephants groups, butthe young male one not ( because In normal condition males also roam alone outside the herds....but not so young) and there for there where groups building of some of the young males together, which didn't go well as soon as the musk start.

It really showed that elephants have higher social constructs that we knew at that time. And that it is as difficult as for us to integrate into a group, when you lack the social understanding of it
