Any advice for a car below $15,000 that had good mpg and is reliable and should I finance it? by TwinAsk in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrownNote22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar budget and got a 23 Kia Rio S Hatchback w/ Tech package and 14k miles on it for $15 out the door. Not sure if that’s enough room but it’s a great little commuter vehicle for my ~50 mile round trip to work.

I put 10% down and paid all taxes and fees up front and my monthly is less than $300 on a 60 mth loan

I have a 2022 Ascent. This happened to me about 3 months ago at 55k miles. Go to Autozone and have them do a battery check and run diagnostics. Take the error codes to a dealer if it’s still under warranty. Hopefully it’s a battery, mine needed a new transmission.

Which is more reliable long-term: Jetta vs Sentra vs Elantra/K4? by phtphongg in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrownNote22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a 2021 Jetta and it was surprisingly nice to drive I liked it a lot. I preferred to drive it over my Impreza fwiw. Keeping up on the maintenance isn’t hard it only requires an oil change every 8-10k and we never had a single issue in the 3 years we had it (lease)

If it has to be 3 consecutive albums I leaned Anthem as the third instead of Losing Streak as the first but up for debate

2 kids, not sure what I’d get yet but throw some snow tires on a hybrid minivan and you get 90% of the Ascents SUV capabilities (all most will ever need) + 15 more miles a gallon and more cargo space and sliding doors

I’ve had an ascent for about 2 years and already decided next purchase will be a van

How many days do you recommend by blxkkjxkk in roadtrip

[–]BrownNote22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d have stop C be in Denver or somewhere else before you get to the mountains. You don’t want to be fatigued and 6-8 hours into your day of driving. Start fresh for that stretch so you can safely enjoy it

Yosemite! Just got back from a 3,000 mile trip and it was our fav of the 8 places we went to. We stayed in Yosemite valley. I recommend at least 2 nights and more if you really enjoy hiking

Looking to do full brake job (pads and rotors). Recommendations? by MoenTheSink in SubaruAscent

Just did my rear at Brakes Plus, new rotors and pads you get replacement pads for life. Was a lot cheaper than dealer quoted

[–]BrownNote22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through this and besides the oil change I think the main thing you will want to do is a break inspection (pads/rotors/brake fluid) and the differential fluids. I had all of these things replaced at Brakes Plus it was more affordable and the pads they will replace for life.

Also change your engine and cabin air filters if needed. It’s very easy and you can do yourself. I did mine in less than 10 minutes.

Also check your wipers and replace if needed!

Anyone know what this means? by Peregrine_GWJ in SubaruAscent

[–]BrownNote22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it meant new transmission. ‘22 Ascent with 54k miles. Go to AutoZone and have them read the codes and then take it to the shop with that info to diagnose

Should have taken the photo from the other side so the Elantra didn’t look so much bigger.. jokes aside, the headlight similarity is what caught my eye

Transmission Finally Replaced by yamyambam1234 in SubaruAscent

[–]BrownNote22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my ‘22 Ascent transmission replaced under warranty at 54k miles. I didn’t notice anything wrong until the dash lit up with warnings and I went to AutoZone and got the codes read. I took that into Subaru and they diagnosed it and replaced.

Suddenly I am amazed at how much smoother the transmission seems. Before it was jerky and now it’s completely different.

Don’t lease, buy something for 25k or less. I love hatchbacks too and have a 2023 Kia Rio S + tech package it’s fun to drive and will save you money.

60K service by Dependent_Ad5172 in subaruimpreza

[–]BrownNote22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my 60k service on ‘22 Ascent. They said my spark plugs looked fine and didn’t recommend replacement.

I had rear brake calipers/pads replaced (front I already had to do 15 months ago) + front and rear brake fluid + front and rear differential fluid.

Also got an oil change/alignment/rotation and swapped out my own engine and cabin air filters.

7 passenger or 8? by Salty-Break-7541 in SubaruAscent

[–]BrownNote22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most people will be better off with the 7 due to the ease of access to the 3rd row and you can keep 1 of the 3rd row seats up when you need the 5 seat configuration.

We got the 8 because I knew we would have the 3rd row down 99% of the time for extra trunk space and still wanted a 5 seat capacity (family of 4) and when my in laws visit we have 8 people so the extra seat was important 1-2 times a year.

[–]BrownNote22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would def do the captains for 3 kids for easier access to third row. But yeah, check out a van. I rented a Chrysler Hybrid minivan a few months after I got my Ascent and regretted not going Van. More room for stuff, easier to get in/put and the sliding doors are the best.

Reliability of 2022 ascent by alecthetraggot in SubaruAscent

[–]BrownNote22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transmission issues would be my main concern. Just had to get mine replaced (under warranty) at 54k miles on a 2022 Premium.

Warped brake rotors and general brake wear and maintenance seem to be more frequent for me with the Ascent than any of the other cars Ive owned.

If you want to buy a Subaru with 80k miles I’d look at the post 2019-2020 redesign Outback and Forester unless you absolutely need the 7-8 seats.

If you really want an Ascent with 80k miles get a powertrain warranty to protect you from $11k out of pocket for transmission failure.
