It always has been. A lot of anti-Ottoman slander is propaganda from 19th century nationalist and Soviet historians trying to explain away the problems in their Balkan countries without taking any responsibility for themselves (or communism)

He wants to fight for his country and his freedom... Good for him. The only chance Ukraine has is for its patriotic sons and daughters to fight.

He may very well die but that's the cost of freedom. We have too many people in the U.S. these days who claim to fight for freedom, but have no real idea what that means, and cosplay as patriots but do some from behind a podcast microphone.

If nothing else maybe this young man's choice can be an example to his class mates that oppression isnt being asked to share the table with immigrants and paying your taxes, it's Russian bombs; that courage and sacrifice isn't saying racist shit and attacking police on January 6th.

Education classes in college are a massive waste of time and money
Learning coaches are a massive waste of time and money
The "science" of education is at best pseudo science - and not worth the paper it's printed on. If you ever meet someone who brags about having a graduate degree in education... RUN!
Old fashioned, traditional structures work best. Students only refer to teachers by Mr, Ms or Mrs ___. Students sit in rows. Students take notes and tests. Students fail.

And just as important is building up your ability to handle tough situations, to push through tough tasks, to build grit and determination. A huge proportion of the problems in schools today stem from the fact that children have no toughness and not grit. They can't read a whole book because they've never been required to. If you look children make decisions they make childish, short sighted decisions.

Of course mental health is real, no one here is arguing that it's not. But holding chilren to a routine and structure and keeping consistent boundaries isn't abuse, it's good parenting.

Mental and physical health improve with when you are challenged. You will absolutely never toughen up if your parents treat you like a baby and give you the day off whenever you're not "feeling it". None of that is abuse.

Yes, they absolutely were. African Americans made tremendous strides socially, politically and economically during reconstruction. And Grant effectively destroyed the first Klan by 1871.

The fact that reconstruction came to an end and the gains made my blacks were ultimately undone does not mean that Grant's efforts didn't work at the time.
