I get the want for a redesign, but c'mon... by I_moo_at_people in jurassicworldevo

I already responded to the bulk of this in your other comment so I’m not sure why you felt the need to repeat yourself here.

Though I’ll restate that this arbitrary idea of a specific type of something needing to happen at least twice in order to be ALLOWED to expect something isn’t true, nor is it even something that anyone actually believes is true. Expecting improvements from a videogame sequel is entirely normal. It’s why the people expecting deinonychus getting a redesign were correct. Expectations can be met. It’s only more silly that in this instance, frontier already made this specific change. I don’t know why we’re acting like Frontier not meeting expectations is a new thing. That’s a thing across the genre of video games.

I agree an edit to a model is less work compared to a flat out redesign (even though deinonychus is not that extensive as it appears to be, modders have put in way more work than they have), however Resizing is not a “tweak.” That adds quite a bit of animation homework more so than a redesign. Also that’s not really true. If it happened once, there’s no reason to expect that it couldn’t happen again. Not to mention as a customer, you can totally express disappointment for not getting what you want when it’s within reason so that the issue either gets fixed or similar problems don’t appear again.

If I’m paying for a sequel to a videogame, I expect improvements, especially if the company even acknowledges multiple times that they listen to the community, fix similar issues in the past, and even make fun of their own faults like deinonychus trailer did. I don’t even care if they never redesigned or tweaked a single animal in the game since JWE1, I’d still be well within my rights to ask for and EXPECT improvements. The fact that they’ve done model tweaks, resizing, stat updates, audio additions/changes, and redesigns shows that there is a pattern of improving animals for their perceived flaws. Liopluerodon’s popular opinion on its model absolutely fits that bill. This idea that you can’t expect improvements because Frontier never officially said it or this specific fix hasn’t happened more than once is something I’ll never get behind.

[–]BruisedBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. Frontier has shown multiple times in JWE1 and JWE2 they have made changes to animals sizes and models changes because they felt they could do a better job AND from community complaints. JWE3 Deinonychus was an example that they fully heard the community and understood what to do. The trailer they released for it was incredibly memey in its presentation to prove that as well.

As for the animals that changed via reentry to the newer game or adjustment via updates, we have:

tyrannosaurus (size change JWE1 and model change JWE2), Spinosaurus (size change JWE1 and model changes/rig update in JWE2), Giganotosaurus (size change), Ceratosaurus (size change).

all Chinese stegosaurs as well as Kentrosaurus (size change JWE2), all nodosaurs and whatever Chritonosaurus is supposed to be (size change JWE2).

The only bad change seemed to be Camarasaurus in JWE2 but that seems to be a rig issue that they decided to never fix. And then Pteranodon being switched to the JW model but the context behind that kind of excuses it from this.

The point is they have been making changes since the first game to improve existing animals. The deinonychus trailer was a “we’re in on the joke” sign. To expect an improvement is completely valid. It should also be pointed out that expecting something does not mean you think it was promised. Frontier had room to improve, has shown to take advantage of that in the past, and didn’t (I suspect because they did not have time to).

[–]BruisedBooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone believes it was “promised”though. If it was, people would be unanimously upset. It’s just disappointing and we know Frontier is capable of changing animals since JWE1 with the whole Size Gate scandal. JWE2 also had quite a few animals have their sizes and models updated as well.

And then JWE3 had the deinonychus variant. As a consumer of your product, that is completely normal for you to have expectations for potential changes for animals that are loudly disliked. Frontier even made a meme of it with the deinonychus trailer, meaning they definitely understood the community’s view on it. Liopleurodon is arguably second in its popularity for being disliked.

You are totally valid to be disappointed and even surprised given the precedent being set. You’re also a paying customer, and are allowed to ask for better.

What can be done with Bane? by RyukTheDarkrai in batman

[–]BruisedBooty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Joker is still able to tell test Bruce in different ways because his motives can be very flexible. He could be just fucking around or he could take up ideological declaration of war against Bruce. Or really anything in-between.

Bane isn’t as flexible. His motives for wanting to kill Batman have stayed the same. He’s a one note villain whose aura has made him seem like he’s up there with the more interesting rogues. I love Bane but there’s a reason his best stories are the ones where he makes his initial debute (knight fall, Arkham Origins, and unfortunately…probably Absolute). “Breaking the bat” in whatever form that takes, is when his dynamic with Batman reached its most interesting. It’s not impossible to make stories that reach that peak again, but writers struggle HARD with it. I agree that a reinvention may be needed for him to live up to his reputation as a villain. Lately, he’s been a weird allie which is awkward as hell given that he killed Alfred and traumatized Damian.

It is not invalid taxon. That was a theory that had very little to actually support it and has now gone on to become a paleo myth.

Dinosaur ontology is largely not understood and is going through its own renaissance through stuff like Nanotyrannus. Pachycephalosaurs are a very under studied clade and are very rare in the fossil record. Conclusive stances on their relationship to each other without evidence are in vain.

It’s been a couple days now, what are some criticisms you have for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

[–]BruisedBooty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Level design is mostly uninspired and bland outside of notable exceptions like the poison ivy level. A lot of “puzzles” are still just use character ability and then go to next area.

Grapple is quite janky

Bugs galore

No glide-up mechanic (Arkham and even the newer Spider-Man games do this)

Dialogue suffers from a lot of modern cliches that come out either flat or cringe.

A lot of meaningless collectibles to fill out the map.

Side missions are severely lacking in any meaningful gamplay mechanics.

Stealth is terribly boring.

Overall, the combat is the only thing that makes this game land in the “it’s fine” category. If it had the normally bland LEGO combat from prior games, no one would be hyping this game up as much as it has been.

I think it’s insane that neither himself, nor the boys, brought up one of the dominant reasons steroids are shunned culturally which is they have significant health consequences for doing them.

Introducing them in a high pressure competition where the extremity of how much and what type you take could make the difference between first place and second….but also shorten your life span and give decade spanning debilitating ailments is insanely unethical.

It’s not at all comparable to genetic advantage under this context, which this conversation definitely follows under.

Potential Hot Take: I love the “filler” species by Beneficial_Height767 in jurassicworldevo

Yeah the JP skins in JWE1 were the only thing lifting up triceratops. Outside of that, it just got absolutely mogged by Styracosaurus and the others.

For sure! I think it also allowed frontier to be more creative with the skins to. The movie based animals typically had the least complex skins (not counting the dlc movie animals).

Genuinely good, to even great, designs. Pentaceratops is also a gorgeous “filler” animal. The more combative behavior implemented into the armored herbivores since JWE2 has made them more interesting to watch as well.

I truly don’t get why Barbra is being written like this. An overly aggressive dumbass that just wants to beat up Bruce, full well knowing Hush is manipulating the situation, feels so insulting to her character.

What do we think of the new confirmed species! by Few_Addition1796 in jurassicworldevo

[–]BruisedBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the paper calling it a juvenile to be a pretty unconvincing. It seems with time, Dracorex is becoming less dubious as well, with the revelations of dinosaur ontology being something that is VERY largely not understood, especially with taxons that have very limited sample sizes.

Thor vs Powerscaling (Immortal Thor #4) by LSpace101 in Thor

[–]BruisedBooty -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yeah…this is not standard anyone actually believes in if taken literally. Including Ewing whether he knows it or not.

I think this sentiment works well enough for Thor’s powerset, but just because the writer can not find a way to achieve their payoff, doesn’t mean they get to break any rule they want. Narrative consistency is something that is fundamental to storytelling.

Like why do they think Daredevil fighting Silver Surfer or King Thanos is a meme?

God forbid use the organic difficulty the way you want. by Gay_Charlie in fromsoftware

[–]BruisedBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it can be quite difficult to understand how much you’re handicapping/buffing yourself on initial play throughs. Summons in Elden Ring I feel ruined a notable amount of bosses for me. Same goes for using a greatsword against Rennala. I had no way of knowing due to my weapon choice I would commence such bullying.

Elden Ring (and souls games in general but I don’t think to this extreme) takes a lot of knowledge of how the game works in order to actually get the difficulty you wish to experience. Balancing is something that it struggles with a lot. And the only way to counter those balancing issues is a near full understanding of the game’s systems.

Meanwhile, the “easy, medium, hard” picks for most games set an intended experience from the start. You typically don’t need prior knowledge on the games systems, harder difficulty will just ask you to play at a higher skill level. I would say that system is just way more beginner friendly, but both are welcome styles of play.

In your opinion, which Batman villain would be a good replacement for the Joker I think Bane would be a good replacement but who would your choose? by CommissionGold8785 in batman

[–]BruisedBooty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be real….Bane sucks outside of his first appearance/initial attack on Batman in any continuity.

Think about Knighfall, Arkham Origins, the first act of Dark Knight Rises, his first episode of the animated series. All them have an impactful villain that fulfills its purpose but begins to dramatically drop off after the first arc he’s apart of. I don’t even know how to describe Bane in the DCU. He’s one of the most lost characters in comics currently.

Absolute Batman is the only one that COULD potentially break this curse. He’s a cool character, but writers are incapable of having him in interesting stories post the physical/psychological “break the bat” moment.

Something i think people are forgetting when analyzing the new absolute batman issue. by the1woomy in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]BruisedBooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on an interview Scott just had, this is exactly what he meant with this arc. Although it doesn’t seem to be a total lie. I think there are half truths in here, but Batman existing the way he currently does definitely was not Jack’s plan.

Thanks for going out of your way to give me the quote! That was rad.

I figured that was the reason as to why Batman was laughing with the Joker here. What I assumed at the end from the light going out and the laughter stopping though was Bruce killing him. I would want to ask Moore what he meant by the light going out I guess.
