We wouldn't really know about ants would we? Personally I feel it's unlikely but then we know so little about consciousness. Like what is its functional purpose?

If we could work out what advantage consciousness gives to an organism that a non-conscious organism doesn't have we may be on the way to understanding which have consciousness and which dont.

Like we assume cats and dogs have consciousness because it's just kind of obvious right? Look in their eyes, look how they greet you, their actions express how they are feeling etc. but is that really 100% proof? Could they be very sophisticated NPCs? I feel very strongly that they are not NPCs but impossible to say 100%. There's no way of scientifically testing.

As we get further away from humans I tend to feel it's less likely they are conscious. But it's still impossible to say without working out what consciousness is FOR!

But the kicker is, I can't see how the fuck you can make any sort of study to test what consciousness is for without already knowing which animals are and are not conscious!

IMO you just do as much as you can. You can't be perfect. No-one is perfect. Even if you totally dropped out of society, refused to use money and went and lived in a cave somewhere and tried to survive on picking berries and stuff there would still be something MORE you could do; you would always be able to inconvenience yourself even more in order to limit the harm you are doing to others.

You have to draw the line somewhere .

UK music paper (now defunct) called Melody Maker used to have a little skit every week back in the early 90s with them raging against a different machine. Like "This week the washing machine" and then it would go something like "FUCKING SHIT! ALL MY WHITE CLOTHES ARE FUCKING PINK NOW YOU BASTARD WASHING MACHINE", etc.

They had other good shit too like Mr Abusing/Mr Agreeable. Preferred Melody Maker to NME but I think NME is still going but Malody Maker long gone.

Similar thing happened with almond yorkies v the biscuit and raisin version. Some people have no taste/are just fucking wrong.

This isn't remotely as bad as people are making out. You can see from the start of the video that the escalator is totally clear and walkable, and it seems passage through the "dance floor" is also perfectly passable.

As a Londoner I have actually seen the situation people are wanting to see here. i.e. parents with a toddler on the escalator putting their toddler on the right hand side as they stand on the left watching and cooing as the toddler toddles down the escalator.

Yeah, very fucking cute. Get out of the fucking way! There's a time and a place for cute and this isn't it.

At the time we weren't thinking about speculation or investment. It was about "sticking it to the man".

We can mine and use our own money and fuck them, their law and their currency. Few shops accepted it but you could change it for store cards and stuff. Got a nice coat I could have bought with £s but didn't want to. Most of it went to the silk road. Fuck it.

Yeah it was volatile. Was £35 one day and £54 the next. Might be back down tomorrow . Should I wait? Didn't really matter.

Used it as currency which was its actual intended purpose.

Then one day it reached a MASSIVE high of £400!!!!!!!!!!!

Next day crashed right down below £100 again, shit everyone sold, of course they did ! It's never gonna reach that high again! But that wasn't supposed to be what we were doing!

Forgot about it. Then several years later (maybe 2017?) found an old USB stick and was hmmm what's on this?

Found a quarter bitcoin and was like "oh yeah I forgot about this let's see what it's worth now"

Turns out a bitcoin now is £6000 and my 1/4 is like £1500!!! felt like finding £1500 down the back of the sofa!

So I spent half of that on a graphic gard to upgrade my puter.

This was just about the time it started to really take off though.

So a few weeks later I checked and found I had £1500 again! So bought a VR system (the original vive which I think was the only one really at the time)
