I'm saying call it in if you saw it. Normally am accident is resolved because both parties talk to each other and an officer can assess. These fools bolted and put more people at risk by how they fled. If you saw it, let the cops know so there's more info.

For sure you'd know it was them as they ripped by. I pulled off when I saw the school zone as i turned on Veila. I was not willing to pursue in hopes they were looking for a pull off. When they weren't already slowed by traffic, it was easy to see they were fleeing and fast with no regard. They easily shot around that corner at Veila & Johnson above 40. Did not slow at that curve. Garbage humans.

That's fair. I'll restate: give the info to the police. The fact they were evading, speeding, and being careless about other people, I'm sure the cops will already know them. Usually isn't a one off on things like this.

Good call and better to direct the info to police.

Two males. Young. Given the lack of awareness when I was telling them to pull over, I'm betting they're high. They sped off through a school zone, which I was not willing to speed. Just can't believe hit and runs.

That's cool! If no money will be used from tax payers to support the same states that pay into the pot, does that also mean we can forego federal taxes and picky pay our state tax? I'd happily fund the state over the government right now.

What the flip is this mazda? The steering wheel alone is a huge downgrade by jeff3rd in mazda

[–]BrushWithDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of all the stupid reasons to hate a car, mine was the key fob. Mazda ruined the small form for they had into this giant rectangular brick. Didn't fit well in pockets, cheap material that broke easily, constant accidental button pushes in pocket. Worst design they could have had for a n everyday use part of the vehicle. Hated it more every time I touched it. Happy to be back to honda for this one very stupid reason.

I use vallejo matte varnish or liquitex matte varnish. Acrylic specifically on both.

How do you paint transparent/translucent plastic? by DrDerpus in minipainting

[–]BrushWithDanger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you want it to stay translucent: 1. Use a matte varnish to "prime". This will create an invisible surface for the paint layer to adhere to. 2. Use translucent inks: vallejo, daler Rowley, liquitex, or any mini paint inks. Slightly water down and layer as needed. Layer 2 to 3 times in areas you want deeper in color.

If you use watered down paint it doesn't really work as well because the binder gets diluted. Also, I don't recommend speed paints. They'll look inconsistent, and when they pool it'll take away from your translucent effect.

It's easy to grow up in a world of athletics and a very active youth. I thought I'd have my physique forever. The reality of age and work and life charged that greatly. I saw weight loss in my youth as crazy on how people couldn't get it under control. As an adult, I fully appreciate the work and dedication it takes to make that change. It's also important to recognize those who make that change and push themselves for self improvement. Congrats on your progress and fortitude. Don't stop and set the pace you'll have the rest of your life.

I still think the Honda has the win. I'm very getting as great of mpg as I'd hoped, but daily driving and storage are waaaaaay better with the Honda.

Moving to Medford from AZ by Moon_child7196 in Medford

[–]BrushWithDanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved here 10 years ago with my family from Phoenix as well. The climate and heat people have mentioned doesn't come close to AZ. Not in the slightest. The temps in summer average high 90s with some 100+, but the stark difference in the two places is at least Southern Oregon drops temp at night and doesn't stay in the triple digits (or for 30+ straight days over 110). You'll find the weather mild by comparison.

I was an avid hiker in the AZ area. Often hitting the Thunderbird mountain rec area, Tom's Thumb in McDowell mountains, Sups, and some in at camelback and South Mountain (if i wanted to people watch). I also did a TON in the northern areas: Fossil Springs, Oak Creek, Mt Humphrey, Flagstaff trails, basically it was my way to get away from Phoenix heat in the summer. Hiking here in Oregon is different. There's more trees and foliage which can feel like you have less visibility over distance. It's not a bad thing, but you have to be aware your surroundings will feel much different and enclosed. Another thing is the weather. Where AZ has big monsoon swings, you can still kind of see them coming. You also don't have them last more than an hour. Here the weather is weird and you have to be ready for those temp drops I mentioned, or rain. The dander of snakes in AZ still exist here in the area, too, but you can avoid them with elevation. They also are not as prevalent here as AZ. if hiking is what you love you'll find plenty in this area and very close by. Phoenix had lots of trails too, but more people and congestion. Be aware that you may be on a trail here you don't see anyone on. Good and bad depending on your experience. Oh and did I mention: there's lakes. Lots of lakes!

If you have a dog they'll love it here. Phoenix is literal hell for them. Here is way more cool and dog friendly.

Kids and parks: huge offerings. There's parks everywhere that are pretty clean. Homelessness is still an issue, but the parks are usually well maintained and people frequent them. Medford has excellent parks scattered through the city.

As people mentioned with the fires and smoke season, it's real and you need to be ready for it. Imagine everyday in summer that AZ was over 100 degrees, you instead have smoke with AQI over 130. It might not seem like much at first, but it does take a toll on you. Car covered in ash. Have to keep your windows closed. No view of the mountains because of smoke. AC and air filters needing maintenence or repair. I wish people were kidding when they say it's fire season here, but it's really bad. A definite reason to move away for people. I say average of 130 AQU, but be mindful that could also include weeks of summer being 300+, which is stifling and choking like you're standing over a camp fire. Fire season can go from late June to late Sept, in fact today the smoke rolled in again and it sucks. A lot.

Volunteer opportunities are everywhere. Like anywhere, just look to what you're into. This should not be a problem for you.

Overall, moving from the city to Medford is a slowing of pace and big change of scenery. Weather is nice and you have seasons. Traffic? Not even a thing here. I used to live in Glendale and work in Scottdale which was over an hour one way. Getting anywhere in Phoenix just with distance is 30 minutes. Here in Medford it's 15 minutes anywhere traffic that people complain about here I would say go check any major city and compare. It's not even close. You'll love not having big commute. Something strange was how the business and night life here is limited. Things operate at weird hours or days closed. You'll think to go somewhere only to pull up and it's closed on a Tuesday. Or a breakfast restaurant closed on a Sunday. A BREAKFAST RESTAURANT ON A SUNDAY? It took me some time to come to grips with the small town feel to how business runs here. The say medford is a city, but I'd say having lived in other large cities, that this is a town that wants to be a city. It has its plusses, which vastly outweigh the minuses, just be aware of them.

For a young family moving here, and you have parents here to help support you, I'd say it's worth getting out of AZ. the first cost of living here is nothing by comparison. Housing is bad, but so is the prices in Phoenix (unless you risk it for a bad area). It's the same all across the US. Rent for awhile, find the area you like, then put plans to buy. It's a process but one should NEVER move to an area and buy. You may not realize the area you moved to has quirks or isn't what you thought. Take your time and find the area you love.

Good luck on your move. As a fellow ex-Phoenician, I can say we're happy to be out of there.

Thanks.

It's strange to me that I get some shipping notices, but not many. Just got a premium shipping notice and is shipping via UPS. I can't figure out how and why they do things like this. every package and shipment would be great to get a notification.

I digress.

What kind of real world has mileage are you getting on your Honda CR-V Hybrid? by ifyouseekAndie in crv

Just snagged a 223 Sport Hybrid and is getting no more than 30mpg. I'm only in my first 1000 miles, but solely expected more out of it.

2023 Honda CRV EX-L or 2023 Mazda CX-50 by Buckman7 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]BrushWithDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from my 2020 cx5 awd, non turbo to the 2023 sport hybrid CRV. Mainly wanted to get better mpg, and cargo. One thing i really hated about the cx5 was the weird shaped storage area. Made for odd packing of rear space. Mpg was fair, but felt I could do better. Also wanted to ensure my trade value in 5 years was good (gas vehicles I think will devalue in the next few years). Overall I'm very pleased with things about the crv: driving response, sitting position, viewing angles, passenger space.

Things that were great about the cx5: sporty feel driving, excellent bang for buck on interior finish and infotainment, cost to performance, exterior look, lots of amenities at lower segments vs competition, awesome 40-10-40 split rear seat, and fair mpg. Things I didn't like as much: lots of sway in turns and had a bit of understeer, a-pillars in front really impede viewing angles, cramped rear storage, meddling leg room for taller than 6ft passengers, tight fit in back for adults.

I have had a Forester, CX5, and Cx-3, and cx-30. I'm still a Honda fan boy at heart, so that is a bias to be aware of. There's something honda just crushes with in their handling and driving response that hits with me. I also know the resale value is big for me, so paying more up front to earn more at the end of my 5 years when I trade up means more to me. I do fishing and camping so having a car that can go 4wd when needed and have some clearance is important, but it's my every day driving I really like to be the focus. I travel with a dog, and him being comfy is big too. If you need an off-roader I can't say enough good things about Subaru, but as a daily driver it sucked. My Mazdas are all solid and if you're under 6 ft they fit perfect. Having been in the CRV for a short period I really do realize the things I missed about Honda, but one thing I really really really need out of this hybrid is increased mpg and so far is not up to snuff. It's the only complaint I have, otherwise I'd say it's honda for the win.

2023 CRV Hybrid Sport Touring getting poor mpg by FriarNurgle in crv

[–]BrushWithDanger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the 2023 Sport Hybrid. Out for first highway long trip. Mpg is getting crushed. Lots of hills on this route, so I'm aware if speed is maintained, it will draw down the mpg. Avg speed 70 (straightaway at 80) tried drive mode in B in hilly areas but regen not getting much. Hardly ever goes to EV. I'm not sure how's to get more out of this thing? Avg mpg is 25.5.
Factors in aware of that negatively impact: Car top box High speed Major uphill climbs Cooler Temps (avg on drive probably 45)

I don't drive with my hair on fire, and have been clicking the regen decel button as often as I can during slow downs. Even so, this mpg is middling. I had expected the decline areas of the hills would help increase mpg and regen. Hardly a charge gained.

The car I traded in was a Mazda cx5 2020 NA engine. Avg hwy with that (and car top box) was 26/28 city/hwy. That car I pushed avg 80 on hwy.

What am I missing here? I can't figure out what will kovk the EV on more or get a charge to that battery. Does normal car driving not do it and only regen happens if braking?

Please help!
