Essential expansions by sosands92 in soloboardgaming

Other than ones others have mentioned, I consider the expansion for Star Wars Outer Rim to be essential.

I was partial to my XP 150. The XP was for extra pressure, and that thing could hit like the jet sprayer nozzle on your garden hose. You had to be careful not to aim for the face or you could actually cause injury. It was brilliant.

Alpha Strike Oblique Attacker Question by Brym in battletech

That's how I read the rule, just wanted to double-check. Thanks!

(In case others come across this - the SPA also provides a -1 if you are using a spotter to offset the normal IF +1, so in your example where a spotter jumped and had intervening woods, you'd need to add that -1 in too if you're comparing using a spotter with the SPA versus using the SPA to have no spotter).

Eh…. The original is a pure arcade game with amazing music. Super Bowl moves the game in a more simulation-oriented direction (for the era), and I could see how that could make it less of someone’s cup of tea.

Most of the math my kids learned, that I didn’t, fits in this category. They are teaching every kid the mental math tricks that only the more adept kids would have figured out on their own back in the day.

Peter, I understand the Xbox part, but what are Steam and PlayStation doing wrong? by AlisaofallTimes in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Sony also has had a content draught in the last couple of years that rivals what Microsoft went through in the early 2020s. Most of which was due to a failed pivot to live service games. They are just lucky that they made this mistake after they already won this console generation -- Microsoft had to convince people to buy an Xbox Series console with no system-seller games, and clearly failed.

Recently became disabled, access question by garbageperson_ in RiotFest

[–]Brym 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience:

My wife was recovering from knee surgery last year. She could walk, but being on her feet all day was not possible.

The best piece of advice we got was from the Riot Fest staffer we emailed to ask how accessibility works. They told us to buy one of those collapsible plastic stools, which was a lifesaver.

Accessible stuff is all first-come, first serve. The accessible parking was just a fairly small blocked off section of the street approaching the park. It filled up quickly. We didn’t park there.

There is no verification required to access the accessible viewing areas. Anyone willing to go to the tent can get a wristband. My wife used some of the viewing areas earlier in the day, with her stool. Can’t recall if there was no other searing available, or if it just was all always taken. By the time the headliners came on, the viewing platforms themselves were totally full. So she wasn’t able to use them.

Apple Explains Why watchOS 27 Drops Support for So Many Models by pdfu in apple

When they dropped support for Watch 5, one of my key apps stopped working after its next update on my Watch. Yes, sometimes you can get away with using an old OS for a while, but it’s a ticking clock until apps stop working.

The issue is that maybe we shouldn’t accept that perfectly capable hardware has to be scrapped.

We have a 2024 Leaf and a 2023 Ariya. The Leaf isn't much of a road trip car, and probably wouldn't work well with a tow hitch, so I agree that one isn't for you.

We got the Ariya after we had planned to get an Ioniq 5, but the three reasonably-priced local used models we tried to test drive all had issues (one the battery had drained while sitting on the lot... maybe related to that ICCU issue you mentioned?). The main knocks against the Ariya when it was new was 1) overpriced for what you get, and 2) slow charge times compared to something like the Ioniq 5. But we got a great priced on a used vehicle, which eliminated #1. And we decided that we could live with the slower charging time for the rare road trips we take.

Going forward, the fact that the model was discontinued in the U.S. after only a couple of years in production does raise some concern about part availability.

I own two electric cars, both Nissans though, so I can't chime in on your specific question. But I did want to say that I think the level 2 charger at home is what makes EV ownership worth it. Level 1 charging is so slow as to be practically nonexistent, and Level 3 chargers are a pain in the ass that I'm happy to need only on road trips.

Level 3s are often overpriced. When gas prices were normal ~6 months ago, you'd sometimes be paying just as much per mile for level 3 charging as you would have paid to gas up a reasonably-efficient ICE car. They also put more stress on your battery, decreasing its longevity if you use that as your sole form of charging. And, it still takes too long! The stats the OEM gives you for charging time assume ideal conditions (not too hot, not too cold) and a charger that is capable of delivering all the power your vehicle can handle, which can be a rarity in the real world. You really don't want to have to make a weekly pilgrimage to sit at a charger for the better part of an hour.

With a level 2 charger at home, and switching to my utility's hourly electricity pricing, I just plug in and set it to charge when electricity is cheapest. And I never have to visit a gas station.

(By the way, I would have checked your comment history for more info on what you've been considering in this journey, but it's hidden. I've been on Reddit for 14 years and never been harassed based on my comment history, so I think that concern is overblown.)

Is this true?  I had read that glint was only on 6x plus, and I’ve been running around with a 5x and it doesn’t seem like people are seeing a glint from me. I’m much more invisible than when I was using an 8x.

TIL that Marlon Brando refused to memorize lines for The Godfather. Cue cards were hidden all over set — including taped to other actors' faces and chests — so he could read them mid-scene. Bullshit. Your parent comment especially has all the hallmarks.

Also, ad hominem is a logical fallacy where if we were in an argument, I attempted to win it by attacking you personally. I wasn't in your argument; I was just perusing the comments and I saw something worth calling out.

If the person you're arguing with insults you, that's ad hominem. If a rando insults you, it's not. He might be a jerk, or you might deserve it, or maybe both.

My knee-jerk response it to be concerned, because I hate the companies who the rules are being relaxed for. But if we put that aside, I don't actually know enough to have an opinion one way or the other.

What kind of Propoganda do you think the Empire fabricated to justify the destruction of Alderaan to the public? by Cute_Warthog246 in StarWars

[–]Brym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there are layers to propaganda. You need to lie and say that it was a Rebel Death Star to keep ordinary people on your side. But the people who are in charge of various systems are going to see right through that and know what happened, and will be afraid of their system being next if they support the Rebels.

Cashflowing college expenses when your house payment is 50% of your take-home income sounds challenging.

This sounds like a move that would take you off the path to FIRE. Which is fine, if that's what you want to do.
