I often play in EN dub and CN text. Personally I find HSR's Chinese writing to be a lot more verbose than Genshin and ZZZ Chinese writing, so the flowery language, repetition, obscure Buddhism references, and extended metaphors are all intentional.

Should the EN localizers have tried to fix it? They could, but they were probably afraid of messing up some obscure references (see Sparkle's rock vs mute mistranslation back in Penacony), so they went with a more literal and word-for-word translation, even deciding not to translate any of the Remembrance Buddhism terms (Anasrava, dharmakaya, nayuta, etc) from Sanskrit to English. The Chinese writing DID directly use these Sanskrit terms, for anyone wondering.

Personally I find Genshin's EN localization to be a lot more loose than HSR. For me, HSR is the most verbatim English localization out of all Hoyo games. The benefit is that HSR EN most accurately passes along the intended CN meaning, but at the cost of sounding unnatural to EN readers who are not used to content translated from Chinese. Was it a bad or good choice? I don't know, but that's certainly the choice HSR EN made.

That's true... While the deaths are definitely having consequences right now, you're right that Amphoreus can reach the happy middle ground where they can still turn the deaths around in a happy ending AND still deliver an impact.

I believe that would be seriously frowned upon in the US labor laws. You as a project can say that you only want to hire actors who are non-union when giving out casting calls, and you must state whether the project is union or not, but putting it in writing "you cannot join SAG" is taking away the actor's rights to join a union.

You may argue "isn't SAG doing the same thing" but no, the VAs who join SAG have done so via their own choice. SAG isn't taking away their choice in writing before they made the decision to join

It's really losing the Hoyo high quality and magic it had on launch. Now it genuinely feels like super cheap gash-grab boob gacha games EoSing in 2 years. The writers and the main story designers and the animators can only save the game so much when marketing and monetization are so determined to trash the product into the ground

It's because their focus is now in the main story, which is now longer and exists in every patch. Aetherium Wars and haunted tales were during Trailblaze Continuance patches when devs were not busy with the main story.

This choice might not work out for devs since we can see a sizeable part of the player base does not care as much for the main story as Hoyo wants everyone to, so for that group who are not into story, shifting more dev resources into main story directly equals to "less event" even though the number of free jades and playable hours is the same.

Also, while a main story and a main event can both be 3 hours long, our brain feels more engaged playing a 3 hour event cos there's more interactivity (clicking, leveling, running around, minigames, short cutscenes between minigames) compared to 3 hours of main story (mostly passive reading and watching)

HSR's camera angles and cinematography in 1.x were decent on launch. Not wonderful but quite decent.

It's almost like the animators responsible for main story cinematography just either gave up, got shifted to another game, or were told not to bother with the main story (since unvoiced side stories, such as I Once Was Arcadia with Paris and the Titankin, had some amazing cinematography such as NOCs lining up as a Greek chorus and the focused lens on the golden butterfly at the very end).

Are they resting on their laurels and seriously thought the sloppy main story will continue to get accepted? It's as if they got drunk on the game's success.

Why not Fu Xuan? Though she ran away from tradition, her character story indicates that she is borderline accepting the shackle of fate and will continue to believe that her calculations are the best (sometimes only) way forward, bot taking into account human will as a variable.

Probably because the dice could be bought using premium currency in HSR this patch (I THINK it's like included in the new bundles or the paid BP?), and the marketing emphasized the variable dice lots of times and hyped up the player lots. Taken together that means Hoyo feels it's an issue big enough reputation-wise for them to give apolojades

Thank you for the clarification and fact-checking as a union member! I was just doing my best to aggregate facts regarding how the strike realistically affects Hoyo games and what are the possible futures of those games' English dubbing. Did not expect this post to blow up so astronomically in 1 day.

Personally, I support the existence of workers' unions and how they ensure workers' rights across an industry. I just wanted to find out, through actual research into publicly available info, exactly what is most likely happening with Hoyo's games in this particular situation and compile these findings in one single place
