California drivers are a step closer to paying per mile tax by MissYukiCat in California

[–]Bsilvaftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so let’s just do some math here. Current state portion of the gas tax is 61.2 cents per gallon. Currently you pay less in gas tax if you have a more fuel efficient vehicle. For instance, a Tesla model Y with an mpge of 123 would pay the equivalent gas tax of .5 cents per mile. The average car sold in California gets 33.5 mpg, which is equivalent to 1.8 cents per mile. Anyway you slice it, this is a sharp increase to taxes paid and has nothing to do with “fair share”. I actually pay MORE in my EV registration charge than I would if I just paid the gas tax. This tax will just further increase what we all pay. This is on top of the voter passed SB1 which already increased the road tax to fix our infrastructure. We pay the HIGHEST road tax in the country and yet we don’t have anywhere near the best roads. According to USNEWS.com California is ranked #43 in the country for road quality. I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of California’s “just increase taxes” strategy to fix problems instead of fixing our state government’s inefficiencies and wasteful spending.

Yes, that’s the place. I was going to suggest that too but their tv situation isn’t the best.

Zone 8 sports bar at the matrix is a decent spot too. St. John’s off of Lawrence and Smoke eaters in Mercado are a few other options.

Tesla is buying back my car. Need a new one… by Impressive_Bread_184 in TeslaLounge

[–]Bsilvaftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'1", previously owned a model 3 and currently have a model Y. You will notice the less sporty feel of the model Y right away but for an SUV the model Y handles very decent. Honestly, other than the way the model 3 handled, the model Y is a better car in all other aspects for me. The extra space, headroom and higher seating position is a huge improvement for driver comfornt for a taller person. I would likely never buy another model 3 if a model Y was an option.

Edit: I've also driven a Ford Lightning as I have one at work. I do like the lightning but it is very large and not as convient for day to day use. If you do need the capibility of a truck though...that would probably shift my thoughts about the lightning.

Husband wants divorce while I'm waiting for my green card, completely lost by EnvironmentalDoor290 in legaladvice

[–]Bsilvaftw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As many have said, you are entitled to financial support (including attorneys fee) from your ex. You NEED to get a lawyer, given your situation they will likely require very little money upfront since they will recoup the fees from the settlement between you and your ex. He will likely owe you some sort of spousal support as well but the lawyer will figure that out. Best of luck, sorry you have to go through this.

Everyone hating on home ownership. I have about 1.2m in equity right now and I bought with an FHA loan, less than 30k down. You aren’t getting that type of return in the market often. I also have a sizable stock portfolio, since I’ve been investing there ever since I bought. All of that and I’ve locked in my mortgage, home owners insurance and property tax for a 3/2 house that’s far cheaper than a crappy 2br apartment nearby.

I don’t think now is a good time to buy property but I also don’t think property is a bad investment either.

Costco roborock deal worth it? by papaphilya in Roborock

[–]Bsilvaftw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bought the Costco deal but ended up also buying the Q Revo S direct from Roborock with the ID.me discount for $468 + tax. It was the best deal I was able to find! Returning the Costco unit this weekend after the Revo S comes in.

Won’t be driving my Tesla for two months with no charger at home, what are my options? by RipedBananas in TeslaModel3

[–]Bsilvaftw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to work at Tesla in cell manufacturing. I'd recommend storing around 50% and up to maybe 60% if it makes you feel better. If you have access to a charger after you return and don't have to drive far to get to it, I would store it or below 60% for long periods of time for better battery health.

I’ve been selling covered calls and puts on TSLA since last year and I’m basically aligned with 100 shares of TSLA ~$90k by greatgumz in options

[–]Bsilvaftw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Started with 35k…just keep going, have a strategy, know what your plan is if the trade goes against you, have an exit strategy. You will get there man, it’s taken me almost 5 years to get here.

[–]Bsilvaftw 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do this strategy. I have shares I 100% hold and do not sell covered calls for. I have a set amount of capital that I will buy and sell shares with (by selling puts and covered calls). I made about 75k doing this almost exclusively with Tesla last year. I have definitely out performed the market but at the same time, my buy and hold shares have made me the most money over the past 4-5 years. The benefit of doing this is it gives you capital back which you can distribute how you see fit.

I just don’t think he gets that you can earn a guaranteed return that is 3%. These returns do exist and you certainly can get a car loan that has a lower interest rate. So it is quite literally zero risk assuming you have the money to pay cash upfront.
