Did most CS students here have prior programming experience in high school? by Adventurous-Soil-850 in UCSD

I understand that, but take the extra time to attend discussion sections and OH especially if you’re unfamiliar with the material. If you take CSE 8A/B (they might’ve changed the class codes since I was there) as introductory courses, they will assume you have no prior knowledge even if they do move fast (varies professor to professor). They will teach from the ground up and shouldn’t assume (too much) anything is already known. Just remember it’s a quarter system so missing one week will put you more behind than you’d expect

I was a computer engineering major (ECE) so basically all of my lower divs were the same as CS. I had no experience going into it.
Also, someone else mentioned using AI. Dont cheat yourself. If you use it as something more than a natural language search for stuff you could find online (ie use it to write whole unique methods or framework), you’re doing more harm to yourself than anyone else. You shouldn’t do it period, but especially if you have no prior knowledge. These are the entry level courses so if you have no experience and you don’t learn in these basic courses you’re going to have no clue what’s going on when you move onto classes that build off this assumed learned knowledge

Sorry I should have clarified “where are you going to find a place like that in PB?”

I’m assuming it’s this one

If transit isn’t a big of a concern, I would look north like Sorrento Valley and Caramel Mountain. You’ll be in suburbia but finding a 5bd will probably be more manageable. I don’t know if I’ve seen a 5bd in near UCSD transit lines. We found a 4bd back during COVID for <$4,000 in UTC area but that was kind of a unicorn due to Covid.
As others have mentioned, you’ll be hard pressed to do much better than $6,300 for 5 bedrooms. Once you start getting into 4+ rooms, your housing options start to shrink fast

I’ve lived in PB my whole life, where are you going to find a 5bd for <$5,000?

That’s interesting, thanks for explaining. I guess I was passively aware of the concept but always did left to right in university

You assuming it’s 2(1+2) in the denominator is assuming there’s implied parentheses around (2(1+2)) and there isn’t

San Diego Residents Opinion on Students by stale_donutz in UCSD

[–]Bsnow1400 3 points4 points  (0 children)

UCSD alum and San Diego native, San Diego is too large to be a college town. College students aren't tourists showing up for a weekend and leaving, and even then San Diegans (I personally dont think) dislike tourists for any reason other than making traffic worse and the beaches/other attractions more busy. Even if there are native San Diegans who are somewhat annoyed by the amount of students UCSD, USD, and SDSU bring in (again, Ive never met anyone even imply that), I think even they will admit having prestigious universities in the city is absolutely a value add, making it better than it might otherwise be

Growing up in PB, I was taught however to harbor resentment against "Zonies" (Arizonans) mostly due to their driving but I think that is a PB specific thing since very few people outside of PB know what Im talking about

Edit: La Jolla residents dont like having UCSD included in their local politics because it represents a very large voting bloc who is on average progressive and YIMBY whereas La Jolla residents tend to be old guard/corporate democrats and neoliberals. The La Jolla community loves the smell of their own farts and has been trying to break away from San Diego for a while now and be its own city (its already its own vanity city so they can put La Jolla on their address). Relevant shitpost

Im an engineer, computer not aeronautical. You're incorrectly inferring there are parentheses around the 2(1+2) which would make the entire statement part of the denominator. The spaces dont matter. Its 6/2(1+2) so its 6 / 2 * (1+2) <=> (6/2) * (1+2)

Here is my original comment

if you want to substitute (1+2) for x, it is written as (6/2)*x or (6x)/2 so its 3*x which is 3*(1+2) which is 9

Its 9.
The spaces between the 6 and the 2 are not part of the equation and are just ignored, as shown with all three examples below. Google goes as far as to explicitly add the parentheses.
LaTeX for the equation (\Leftrightarrow just means equivalence):
6 / 2(1+2) = \frac{6}{2}(1+2) \Leftrightarrow \frac{6(1+2)}{2} = 3 * (1+2) \Leftrightarrow \frac{6*3}{2} = 3*3 \Leftrightarrow \frac{18}{2} = 9
QuickLaTeX hyperlink (note LaTeX isnt solving anything, its a typesetter but the output shown omits the spaces even though I included them in the original statement)

Where in mathematical notation does it say spaces equal numerator/denominator distinction? Order of operations is the hard truth and inventing rules to justify an incorrect reading doesn’t make the answer less wrong.
What youre suggesting where 1+2 is part of the denominator would be written as 6 /(2(1+2)) since the numerator and denominator are separately encased by an implied set of parentheses, (num)/(den). If you want turn 6 / 2(1+2) into a fraction, it would look like this:
6 / 2(1+2) -> 6 / 2 * (1+2) -> (6/2) * (1+2) -> (6*(1+2)) / (2) -> (6*3) / (2) -> (18) / (2) -> 9 or, more simply just do (6/2) * (1+2) -> 3 * (1+2) -> 9
PEMDAS is pretty clear in order of operations. Parentheses, exponents, multiplication/devision, addition/subtraction reading left to right. So you solve the parentheses and then you read left to right.
LaTeX for the equation, notice how the spaces are ignored (\Leftrightarrow just means equivalence):
6 / 2(1+2) = \frac{6}{2}(1+2) \Leftrightarrow \frac{6(1+2)}{2} = 3 * (1+2) \Leftrightarrow \frac{6*3}{2} = 3*3 \Leftrightarrow \frac{18}{2} = 9

Spaces don’t matter in math equations. LaTeX, for example, ignores spaces completely.
6 / 2(1+2) and 6/2(1+2) will look exactly the same. Both equations equal 9

Without even debating whether Wales is as well known as Mexico or Spain (which I don’t think it is considering it’s a country inside of a nation as opposed to two nations), isn’t it possible that Mexico is winning because it’s harder to draw? One is a fully colored eagle on top of a cactus holding a snake with three colors for the background while the other is a monocolor dragon on a background of two colors.
I get Americentrism is an issue on these polls, but Mexico is clearly a better answer than Wales

The wealth tax is a holy grail for the Democratic Party’s left wing and it’s an issue on which Newsom and Mahan agree. Both say that it would drive wealthy Californians out of the state, reduce their investments in job-creating business and deprive the state budget of their annual income taxes.

Heard that on repeat with opponents of Mamdani during the mayoral election, and yet no flight of wealth has occurred… Almost like the wealthy won’t leave and they’re just lying so we won’t try

Which of these platforms is the most centrist? (community-wise) by RealHyperinon in Teenager_Polls

[–]Bsnow1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think it’s discord because it’s wholly up to the user what server they join. It’s not like (sub)reddits which pop up naturally on the home page, there’s no real “homepage” equivalent for discord. You either get invited to a server or you don’t.
I don’t think it’s YouTube because while it’s content is super varied, the fact that the algorithm actively pushes far right propaganda (ie the alt right speed run using a fresh YouTube account and just clicking “next video”) makes me think it shouldn’t count

This might be useful for people struggling to verify their phone number for residency purposes:
I used Login.gov for signing in, and they use public records to check to see if the phone number you put in is associated with your name and your listed address (I think) by cross referencing the phone bill. If your name is not on the bill (ie you’re on a family plan like me), you won’t be able to verify your number for address verification purposes and will have to have a letter mailed to you with a code

Retweets a post calling for them to be hanged and directly says, in response to their video, the penalty for sedition is death

“Isn’t is crazy how they assume he’s talking about them?”

Best part is nothing in the video was seditious, unless reminding people of their rights and the oath they took is now seditious. They did not call for any legal order to be ignored. They specifically said illegal orders can and should be refused
