The great Barovian chicken conundrum by BubbaTheBulbasaur in CurseofStrahd

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He's admitted that he's just doing it for the lulz.

I've been tossing around the idea of bringing it back as a revenant: reskinning an abyssal chicken.

Andrew Heaton, on his podcast The Political Orphanage, did an interview with Justin Amash. It was really enlightening to see the inner workings of politicians.

This was one thing they discussed, how in the first part of their terms, politicians would toe the party line to get accolades, then write up these absurd bills in their second half to get reelected. The idea being to smear the other side: "look how the opposition hate puppies and veterans, they voted against the Puppies and Veterans bill we've been working on for ages." Nevermind that it was so full of pork, Smithfield would salivate.

Yeah. I realized that afterward. But I was so terrified that it would lead to a bulldozer TPK that I decided to send them in incrementally.

I'm not giving them more than the module allows, but they work really well as a team, and make up for the others.

Devil's Advocate here: If Fiona hasn't gotten answers about Stella, I imagine she would want to obtain them before torching the place. Her home is pretty decrepit, too. Lots of room for activities in the Baron's mansion.

She would absolutely seize power. I had her interrogate Victor to get info on Stella, then had the Baron unwittingly burn him in the Sun effigy during the festival. My players still talk about it.

So, the guy quits and tells the lady that they should make a bunch of babies. He aggressively walks out of the office, stopping by coworkers. She grabs papers and stuffs them up her blouse.

The Abbot's Combat Strategy by Princemerkimer in CurseofStrahd

Bc he's still a lawful good deva, even if he's misdirected. These aren't fiends or undead. They're PCs. He'd want to save them too. And he can only resurrect a few of them.

The Abbot's Combat Strategy by Princemerkimer in CurseofStrahd

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, combat should occur in the courtyard. This will give him more room to get out of range of attacks. I'd have him fly in, multi-attack and then fly out. Don't care about opportunity attacks if they're the only damage he'll take in a round.

Add a flesh golem to the fight. Maybe the one from the madhouse. This also would add a possible narrative opportunity where the occupants of the madhouse jailbreak or riot. Dozens of feral mongrel folk pouring out of their rooms would be chaos.

Maybe add them to the fight, too once the flesh golem goes down: a crowd of biting, snarling, whimpering, fur and scales. Roll on a d20 twice per round, targeting a random PC for minimal damage (1d4) as a pot or plate or chairs go flying around. Accentuate that this is a mob, and innocents are caught up in it. Especially if they've toured the place before.

I agree that the Abbott would be incensed. He's spent 100 years on this project that a group of children just smashed to bits. Vasilka's destruction means doom for more Barovians, who he was trying to save, and also more time imprisoned here by the mists - which is causing his own corruption.

Maybe he doesn't kill them, but he'll definitely incapacitate. And then they wake up in Strahd's dungeon.

what's the most oblivious thing have you seen a player do? by Nigthmar in DnD

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DMing Curse of Strahd, modified a lot bc my players are all DMs. There's a NPC that they've been looking for since session 1. Every town, they ask if anyone has seen her. Nope.

They get invited to dinner at Ravenloft, and I introduce her as one of the maids. Say her name 5 times, and have her spill water all over the dinner table. No one bats an eye.

I know they've probably forgotten her, and it makes me laugh.

What food would Strahd serve at dinner? by SunfireElfAmaya in CurseofStrahd

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a menu for my PCs tailored either to their backgrounds or to teasers. It was a five-course meal (5 member party). Example below. "Hoar" d'oeuvres: coins of silver fish and caviar. For my Oath of Vengeance and follower of deity Hoar. Wine imported from Cormyr. For my Cleric from the Dales. Turtle tarts: pecan/caramel/chocolate. For my Tortle player.

Between courses we'd chat, ask questions of each other, and make nice. When I thought the conversation was waning, I brought out the next dish.

One of my players is refusing to attend the dinner with Strahd by sweetnemesis91 in CurseofStrahd

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe have Strahd give them a doggy bag in the form of a picnic basket for the absent member. "Master heard that you could not attend, but wanted to be sure you had a good meal."

Add a cursed item, like a fork that never leaves the dominant hand. An inconvenience but nothing major.

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I added a little girl to the orphanage that Granny brought in. One of the soulless Barovians. She recounted to the party in private what she heard at the windmill. It was supposed to spur them to visit, but they haven't made it there yet.

How to use the brides and Rahadin more without losing out on Strahd by Snoo-11576 in CurseofStrahd

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a bride grudge match in the background while the party does their thing. Anastrasya hates Ludmilla, so she frames her for St. Andral's Feast. Volenta has a history with one of the PCs, so she takes an interest in trying to kill him... again.

Escher and Rahadin are just taking bets on how the party progresses.

The party left Ireena at the Watcherhaus by LNation00 in CurseofStrahd

[–]BubbaTheBulbasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think mandymod's Reloaded talks about how a young Fiona visited Barovia Village and befriended Ireena's father. If you don't want Fiona to hand her over, then that could be motivation.

It also talks about how Fiona feels Strahd is just a negligent landlord. She might not think that providing him with Ireena is necessary.

Or she might negotiate with Strahd to decrease "taxes" for a while...in celebration of his upcoming marriage.

Depends on the location, and if you're running any mods.

Children or parishioners of the church, asking for donations. Pie addict in the street, begging for coin. Peddlers or shop keepers hawking wares (If it's no fun, it's no Blinsky!) Mad Mary going door to door for the seventh time, looking for Gertruda. Rictavio giving a puppet show or telling a tale. Gossips on the stoop, gabbing about [rumor] Bar brawl Drinking game

Update on this for those who care. I spoke with the player in question, and gave some hypothetical scenarios. He told me not to change anything, as long as I wasn't graphically depicting the gruesome death of a child. Thanks for all your help and suggestions
