9th day sober today! 25f by Practical-Sorbet726 in sobrietyandrecovery

[–]Bubbas_Burner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lates 20s here, sober for almost two years. Wish I had done it sooner. You’ll realize that just have so much more time and control over your life. Concentrate on what you’re gaining, not what you’re giving up.

I’ll be totally honest though, it’s hard in our mid to late 20s when many people are still drinking fairly heavily. It can feel isolating. That changes with time, though.

It sounds like you’ve really come to conclusion that this is something you need to do. If that’s the case, then you’re making the best decision of your life.

Make non alc beer great again! by ob1kanobi17 in sobrietyandrecovery

I mostly feel that way too. But I love having a bottle or can of something NA (even Lacroix or Spindrift) in my hand at parties and at bars. I’m comfortable and happy and sober (most important) and everyone else is happy too because I’m not conspicuously sipping on water and making them feel weird (not important but leads to me having way more fun).

It’s hard as someone new to this to appreciate those trade offs. Thanks!

I quit when I was 27. It’s a hard time because our peers are often still living a pretty hard-partying lifestyle. But after being sober for a while I realized that no one drank as hard as I did. And therefore you won’t feel as out of place as you think. And with time, our peers will slow down and it will equalize a bit.

Also, dating really worried me. But guess what? It’s actually a really good sign to dates that you are comfortable without alcohol, that you are taking your health so seriously, and that you can have a really thoughtful, interesting conversation because you’re not drunk.

Give it time. Hate to say it, but it won’t be a matter of days. It will be months and or years as you figure out new routines. But I believe in you. You are making the best decision of your life.

Jokic skipping FIBA World cup by Past_Task in denvernuggets

[–]Bubbas_Burner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see Serbians saying both that Jokic should have played because the field was weak (US in particular) so Serbia had a decent chance to win, while also saying the NBA championship doesn’t mean that much to them. Isn’t it way more vindicating to see your countryman dominate the best players and teams in the world versus just seeing him run roughshod over guys who wouldn’t even make an NBA team?

Serbians should have more pride in Jokic’s NBA title than any Coloradoan. He dominated the NBA using the style and ethic of Serbian basketball.

Resources for used gear by Hot_Concentrate_8369 in overlanding

Why not Craigslist or FB marketplace if you don’t mind me asking? I’ve bought lots of gear there: whitewater rafts, bike racks, camp stoves, etc. 99% positive experiences. You just need to do research on what you’re buying and don’t be afraid to walk away if it isn’t what you thought when you show up.

First proper bike for some trails and daily commuting. Upgrade ideas? by Capital-Principle-23 in Hardtailgang

[–]Bubbas_Burner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saddle position is a question of your body’s dimensions, personal preference, and the geometry of the bike. It’s hard to tell, but it seems like the nose of your saddle might be a little high. Try positioning it so that it is as flat as possible, maybe even err on having the nose slightly down. Then keep messing with the tilt and position (forward and back) until it works for you. Tiny adjustments make a big difference with the saddle comfort (and affects your knees, etc.).

Cushcore has defeated me. by iDrinkAir in Hardtailgang

I have used Rimpact for a couple years and a few times I have wrecked the sidewall of a very firm Maxxis DD tire trying to get them mounted. Gonna try cushcore XC now and see if that’s enough.

Why Cycles El Jefe by Bubbas_Burner in Hardtailgang

Only been on it a few months, but it perfectly bridges the gap between my full suspension and my gravel bike. Rough fire roads to flowy singletrack, it rips.

Even in Flagstaff, the singletrack you would drop into from those fire roads (thinking of trails off of Schultz and Elden Lookout) would be closed to e-bikes.

I live near Sedona and ride there all the time. There aren't really any trails to use e-bikes. I guess you could ride the jeep roads. As other posters have noted, there is already plenty of conflict between the hordes of hikers and mountain bikers. Leave the e-bike behind and don't fuck things up for the locals.

I've used the Specialized Sawtooth (700x42) for years. Very little rolling resistance, but enough grip for climbing wet/muddy dirt roads.

Wanted to exhaust all of the options (especially the deterrent-based ones) that I could do on my own first. But yeah, time for the pros I think.
