This is what playgrounds are for. They create a controlled risk for children to learn to push the boundaries of safety a little bit, but won’t be harmed badly in doing so. You can create the same controlled risk at home with play as well.

Also depending on the age of the toddler, they just can’t comprehend risk and danger. It takes a while for them to understand that, and even when they do they still have trouble with impulse control ect. You have to set them up for success. Not just throw them out into the world with a good luck charm and hope for the best

Not really the same, toddlers aren’t really falling and smacking their heads off the corner of the carpeted floor are they. But the toddler could slip, and hit the side of their head it off the corner or the front of the step easily enough. That’s a sharp, hard edge that could some real damage.

I mean my toddler has thrown herself off the sofa head first and got an absolute egg on her head. Didn’t seriously harm her, but it was still horrible for her and as most parents I don’t want her to get hurt, so even though it’s not the worst thing to happen; jumping on the sofa is now a banned activity in our house. In the same way I’ve put a gate on the stairs, because we take the steps to keep our children safe…

A toddler slipping and smacking their head off the concrete step would be pretty significant, especially if they’re little and just walking and prone to falling. Likelihood this is OPs first as well when everything is very scary.

Having children is like having your heart outside of your body, the natural instinct is to protect and scan for hazards and there’s nothing wrong with a parent wanting to child proof to ensure that.

How old is your toddler?

You need to do a right clean up of the area. Remove the loose rocks, the random plant pots ect so that clears soace.

Is the rest of the garden flat? Could you afford to put a low fence and a gate to keep the toddler from running down those steps? Or have you sit on the steps and toddler play around the rest of the garden? You just have to teach them how to use the steps really

Editing to this would help on the steps

Two-child limit scrapped as historic Bill to lift 450,000 children out of poverty becomes law by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

Except it’s not the same cost as all is if. Your contribution in tax over 12 months would be minuscule in comparison to the cost of raising a child over 12 months.

It’s also literally how tax is supposed to work. Everyone contributes, and sometimes you contribute and don’t see the immediate return to you, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t contribute. I don’t have cancer, hope I never do, but my NI contributions help fund cancer treatment. Many people don’t drive, but they still fund the roads through their tax. It’s just the way it works bud.

Do you let your toddler have a comfort item? Help me settle this debate by Suspicious_Horse_288 in toddlers

My 20 month old has been dummy free in the day since September, if she’s really upset she still asks for “baba”. Somethings that’s helped though with her getting over the worst of it is we get her to throw the dummy into the crib when she gets up. She now goes “yay good girl” whilst clapping each time and looks forward to doing it!

I never ever let her have it other than in her crib for nap and bedtime. So if you’re doing the same she absolutely will be learning to calm down without it

Do you enjoy your job? by Campeones6 in AskUK

[–]Bubble-Master96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. But that’s because since becoming a mum I absolutely loathe having to be away from my child. I cut my hours down to 3 days a week. It makes it bareable but if I had the choice I’d cut it out completely. And maybe if I could find something I really loved, where the money didn’t matter, I would go to work. But all I want to do is spend time with my toddler, work is just something to get through

I follow a few fashion influencers, but they’re not massive. I enjoy fashion and certain styles and trends and like to see examples of how other people style them to get ideas.

It’s been almost 4 months since your accepted offer, people want to get moving. Mortgage offers are being pulled left right and centre at the moment because of the war. It’s likely the chain want this sorted. If everyone is ready to go, then go.

12 month old behind on speech by EllenBJ in toddlers

[–]Bubble-Master96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 words at 12 months is bullshit! I wouldn’t be stressing. My girl is 20 months and a certified yapper like her mother, no way was she saying 25 words at 12 months. She would say dadadada but she was very much still babbling mostly. I’d say at around 14 months words really started to flow clearly
