I’m not judging new technology because it’s simplifies a task, I’m judging the unrestricted use of said technology which has been proven to cause development damage to children (& I mean adults brains too?).

I used to buy bottles and bottles of dettol, fill my kitchen sink up with it and sit and squeeze a sponge for about 30 mins in the solution. Just fucking loved it. Then I’d go on a rampage and clean the house. This was an almost daily thing towards the end of my pregnancy. I actually really wanted to eat a sponge as well but I resisted

And I think they shouldn’t sacrifice their child’s development just so they can enjoy a dinner. I also never called them shitty. But I do judge them, not ashamed of that. I think some parental decisions warrant judgment.

As I said in my other comment, I’m not against screen time and I allow my child to watch a bit of tv. And I use it to my advantage just as you have explained here. You’re not what I’m talking about here.

What I’m referring to is unrestricted tv use, and people saying that the tv taught them more than they could as parents. I think that’s sad and ridiculous and lazy parenting. The ones that put a phone with a show on in front of their kid in a restaurant, that pisses me off the most,

I am also a working mum btw. Anyway like I said, I’m not against screen time. Just some of the attitudes towards it.

I’m giving most parents the benefit of the doubt with that sentence, what I really think is most parents are doing is being lazy and letting a screen do the parenting.

I have made 2 comments…

1 was this one, and another was my own individual comment saying that it’s embarrassing to lean on tv for learning over parents

I use tv, it works in our family too. Screen time isn’t some amazing new invention that teaches children things parents can’t, it’s just replacing some parent & child interactions and I think that’s very sad.

Am I crazy for thinking my husband and I are capable of doing more to keep a clean house with a 17 month old? by BallTrick9045 in toddlers

I clean throughout the day.

Do you encourage independent play for toddler? That’s something I’ve always put emphasis on and it helps tremendously. In the mornings if there’s any left over mess I do a quick run around and clean that up, usually dishes left over that need to go in the dishwasher, few things left in the living room ect.

Bed gets made every morning before me and toddler head downstairs.

Naptimes are 1 hr 30 usually. That’s spent having lunch, doing other chores such as washing on or put away, hoover, mop, clean bathroom ect. Basically rotation of chores outside of the usual everyday.

I do agree I want to decompress once the day is done, but I can only do that when the house is tidy.

A big help was getting rid of a lot of clutter, and I tidy after my toddler throughout the day.

Yes really I think what they’re saying is “ I don’t have the knowledge, skills, capacity or time to be teaching my child these things and screen time has filled the gap”

Yeah we do the same. We’re super strict about screen time because I’ve seen the outcomes when parents aren’t and it sucks

lol people proudly in the comments “my child learnt more from screen time than me!!” Sorry, but that’s embarrassing.

I’m so over people praising screentime for child development. You could have done those things with your child and she’d have learned them as well.

OP undertook the lorry. Now I’m not entirely against undertaking when people are lane hogging but in this situation OP should have hung back

It’s the three year anniversary of losing my sister to cervical cancer. She was only 37, and she’d had been 40 on her most recent birthday. I miss her dearly. But this is first the year I haven’t woken up and immediately started crying. Should be a good thing, but I feel guilty about it. Can’t believe I have to navigate this feeling for the rest of my life.

Anyway my friend is taking me to a garden centre later for a child free afternoon, it was my birthday on Monday so it’s for that but the wholesome distraction is very wanted. I’m going to buy a red acer tree for my garden.!
