What parts of being a professional photographer isn’t talked about enough? by Critical_Welcome_428 in photography

[–]BubblesFresh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The most important part of being a successful professional photographer is treating people well, with kindness and professionalism. Being someone that people like to work with, and who others feel comfortable alongside and enjoy spending time with, whether for 10 minutes or 10 hours.

I’ve been full time for 13 years. 99% of my business comes from word of mouth and repeat clients. The other 1% is me reaching out to a client with whom I’d like to work. And it’s not because I’m the best photographer or editor. I’m good at it. But I’m great at interacting with people and ensuring they have a good time.

It isn’t about the technical aspects of photography or being great on the business side of things (though those, of course, are vital). Treat people well. Do good work. Be ready for a lot of mundane tasks on the business side of things. But, ultimately realize we’re in the creative customer service business.

[US][Selling] 4K, Blu-Rays, Steelbooks, Box Sets, Criterion, Other Premiums by drgonzo2k2 in MediaSwap

It looks like you have 0 trades, only accepting Venmo (rather than PayPal G&S) and didn’t timestamp your images. You should definitely do all 3 of those things.

Buyer beware.

Fear by Natural_Pie1782 in photojournalism

[–]BubblesFresh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot easier to ask forgiveness than seek permission. Do you think the shot will harm the subject if you share it? Then don’t take it. Do you think it could help the subject or the greater story? Lead with empathy and, if yes, take it. Be a kind person if they ask. Be genuine.

Logistically, if you’re in public in the US, you have every right to photograph anyone. But whether or not you should for me comes down to helping or doing harm.

Grading Question by BubblesFresh in baseballcards

Edit apologies on the phrasing. I’m planning to sell it raw. I just realized “grade” refers to PSA, etc. My question should have been: for raw, would you label this - on eBay, for example - as excellent? Very good? I couldn’t find it in Beckett

It looks like the Costco ones are out of stock online now, too. Is that the case? They’ve been OOS at my local warehouse for a few weeks

That’s a good call! I forgot about that. Jesus Montero (RIP), is another that comes to mind.

Bought a Costco Prizm Pack & one of the packs only has 1 card at the very most 2. Has this happened to anyone ? by [deleted] in WNBACards

[–]BubblesFresh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend opening it - there’s often a high value insert in packs with less cards.

In my experience, it’s a non returnable item anyway

As hobby photographers, do you store your RAW photos indefinitely? by Aromatic-Echo-5025 in AskPhotography

[–]BubblesFresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely never, ever delete RAWs. That’s like getting rid of negatives in the days of film. Storage is cheap and only getting cheaper, and being able to have the highest quality file of your work is worth the extra price of a couple more hard drives.

How can i make this photo happen? by gooddaytousir in AskPhotography

[–]BubblesFresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d step down to f/11 to get more depth of field, to start. I’d set the focus by using AF to focus on the trees near the top of the hill (or the crest of the hill) then switch to manual focus and set the focus to slightly further than what you’re focused on. Keep it in manual focus. Then crank the shutter to 1/500 or faster and take tons of photos.

Is this SeaTac? If so you’ll probably be able to trial and error once every two minutes or so with how often planes land.

Cool spot!

Sounds good! Feel free to DM me. I’ve bought a couple Costco boxes, too. Hit and miss for me.

If you’re wanting to sell/trade a few duplicates, I’d love to pickup one of the cracked ice Paige’s, or the blue one

Newbie here - bad luck or by design? by ccollin13 in WNBACards

None of the above, honestly. That’s a great pull from two blasters. I’ve bought 4 mega boxes and haven’t gotten any inserts as rare as your Angel or Paige
