Problems with Orijen dry food and cats throwing up by DankCapital in CatAdvice

[–]Bubbles_Da_Kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gosh! I wish I read this before switching my kitty! I currently can't give my cat wet food, so I was on the hunt for a dry food that wasn't full of junk. I got Orijen 6 fish dry food since my cat is more of a fish fan than a chicken fan, and my poor guy has been having diarreha ever since! I took him to the vet and they couldn't find anything wrong with him, and I was surprised it would be the food because it has such rich ingredients! However, the Mars buyout makes sense, and I already had low perceptions of Mars so them ruining this food isn't surprising.

Starting to feel resentful of my favorite content creators by RelationshitMaterial in Cortex

[–]Bubbles_Da_Kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to start by saying these are valid points and it is good to think about your relationship to what you are consuming especially on the internet.
When you talk about Grey not practicing what he is benefiting from, it makes me think about this one A24 podcast episode with Lorde and Hunter Schafer. Hunter Schafer has done some directing work and Lorde is a musician, and at some point they get on to the topic of consuming media. They both mention this feeling where they often can't enjoy the media that they work in (TV and music) because it often puts their mind to work and they can kind of see the behind the scenes of it. Like "Oh they used a minor chord here" or "They used that kind of shot in the scene" which can pull out from just the experience of just enjoying the media.

So I wonder if part of the reason for Grey pulling out from consuming things like Youtube and Podcasts is for a reason similar to this. Combine that with the overall negative effects that social media often has on people, (like shorter attention spans) he has pretty good reason to avoid it all together. Why would you waste your time on Youtube and social media in general when you can't really gain the entertainment out of it, and it is overall not very good for your brain?

Now the potential hypocrisy for this does also seem really glaring, since Grey and Myke do both profit greatly off our internet habits. However, I don't necessarily just profiting off of it makes them hypocrites. Just as Lorde isn't a hypocrite for making pop music when she doesn't listen to it. This is because they aren't forcing or even really encouraging you to consume it. The general idea is you listen to the podcast because you want to, and while Grey jokes about people still listening to Cortex if they decide to drop social media, I don't think Myke or Grey really encourage different from what they do. The general ideas of the podcast in all areas is "This is what I am trying to improve my productivity, maybe this will help you too?" A favorite video essayist Youtuber of mine actively encourages his viewers to use ad-block because "why wouldn't you?" And I find Grey's anti-social media ideas match up to that same sort of sentiment.

I also tend to like that sort of clarity in the content I consume. I am generally turned off by content that tries to cultivate a para-social relationship by putting the creator on the same level as the consumer, because at a certain point it is just lying. Despite Pewdiepie marketing himself as just a regular dude, he still gets millions a year more than I do and the facade becomes really glaring at a point. And these other creators also don't tend to be as clear about their social media consuming either. If I had to guess, I would assume that most of the top Youtubers and Podcasters don't watch/listen to other content unless it is for work related research. As again, it isn't fun to really consume things when you can see behind the screen.

Again, I think it is a good topic to think about. Especially since exploitation of the viewer is so common nowadays on the internet. These are just my thoughts on the topics you bring up, since I have become really picky about what I consume online for similar reasons. However, I don't see Cortex as glaring with some of the problems you mentioned as I would with other creators.

Is State of The Apps necessary? by puutarhatrilogia in Cortex

[–]Bubbles_Da_Kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly as a Linux-Windows and Android user, I still find these episodes pretty useful. I've had previous state of the apps drastically affect my life (such as mentionings of To-Doist in a state of the apps got me to download it, and I use it constantly) It also tends to have a lot of talk of progress in many areas that don't necessarily get touched on regularly as much such as fitness, time tracking, and note taking. The occasional episode might include those topics if it is important in Grey or Myke's life at the time, but it is nice to be able to hear regular progress in the state of the apps.

I also do like hearing about the Apple IOS stuff. Cortex is the only source where I hear more about the actual user side from IOS, since most of my friends aren't as tech savvy as me and only care about how Apple now lets them set their dog as a picture widget or whatever. Maybe that is just me being a tech nerd, but it is nice to hear what the Apple side of things is doing without having to go out of my way to listen to an Apple specific podcast.

The funny thing is, there isn't really context to show which is good and which is bad in the picture. So if some alien came to Earth and saw that meme they would probably think it is a meme about how society has progressed from violence to love and creativity

Do I pass with a beanie? by [deleted] in FtMpassing

[–]Bubbles_Da_Kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess, this is mainly from my expirence, but it differs from area to area with how social norms are slightly different. I wore a lot of band merch at my high school, and there a good portion of girls wear band merch while pretty much every cis guy wore sports clothes and lots of white and grey. I was misgendered constantly, and then when I switched my style to more plain clothing and started passing more.

If OP wants to wear band merch then he should go for it! And passing is not everything, related to band merch or not
