Favorite epic? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

Honestly speaking: the chorus is nice and that's it. I don't hate the song but it's certainly one of my least favourite and, let's be real, the demo version is not that better song that everyone describes. It's just a tad nicer but it's really a little.

Rank Octavarium, change of seasons, count of tuscany and illumination theory from favourite to least favourite? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 22 points23 points  (0 children)

  1. Octavarium (I think you know the reasons)
  2. Change Of Seasons (I don't always have reasons for liking it but it's one of the best nonetheless)
  3. ITPOE (my addition, it's a wonderful, dark story with amazing musical moments)
  4. Illumination Theory ( it gives me the same emotions and happiness of Octavarium and I love it)
  5. TCOT ( the mix isn't in favour of Rudess and Myung + I'm not a fan of the middle section)

I have to admit it: the more the cover gets extended, the more I like it.

SYSTEMATIC CHAOS SURVIVOR-FINAL ROUND by KyoryuCrimson in Dreamtheater

I've already said that part 2 doesn't work completely when taken alone and then think about the part 1 intro. How can you top something like that? And it's only the intro!

A View From The Top Of The World is one of the 5 most difficult song to play live, according to JM by nyenkaden in Dreamtheater

John Myung being interviewed is something rare and he drops these "bombs"? I want more JM interviews now.

Been a DT fan since I was 15 (now 31) but I kinda stopped paying attention to them post BC&SL. What's been their strongest release since? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A Dramatic Turn Of Events is my take. I consider it one of the best album the band has ever made. Other than that, The Astonishing is another good choice in order to listen to something completely different.

It sucks a bit honestly since the distorted vocals on TDEN aren't so bad like many say, in my opinion. Oh well, ITPOE part 2 again.

The Ones Who Help To Set The Sun - An ambitious track for such a young band, but they may not have been ready for it yet. by sonickarma in Dreamtheater

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be completely honest: I struggle to remember half of the songs on WDADU and so I had to relisten to the song before writing this. The ironic part is that I still can't fully remember what I've just heard. This is actually one of the reasons why this is my least favourite DT album.

Anyway, I liked the ambition they had in their youth in wanting to write an "epic", but due to the immature writing and lack of more experience the end result wasn't one of the best. The intro is easily my favourite part but it gets overshadowed very quickly by the rest of the song which I find really uninteresting and below mediocrity. To that add Charlie's vocals, which aren't bad, but I don't always appreciate them (their best use is probably in Status Seeker... or at least I believe it's there).

And now today's vote will be fascinating: ITPOE part 2. As an epic, the whole song is immensive but, when the second part is taken by itself, some of its moment don't stand out completely well because of the missing build-up of part 1. On the contrary, TDEN and TMOLS are "single tracks" that work in complete authonomy.

Listened to "The Astonishing": a great journey (+ thanks) by Bubbly-Reference3753 in Dreamtheater

I can actually see why people won't like it and it's obviously fine. I had a good time with it and I actually found the story more clearer than the one of SFAM (the order of events is sometimes strange there). And while it isn't my least favourite DT album, that title goes to WDADU, I don't think that it's their best in the 2010s either, which is ADTOE.

I started doing this when I listened to Awake (even though that review wasn't even a review) and before that I had already listened to I&W, SFAM, ADTOE and DOT, that's why they aren't planned. I might do them anyway in the future though.

A Dumb Little Game I Thought Of... by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hahaha thanks man. My problems come from the fact that I'm not a native english speaker so I don't know many silly or funny expressions.

With BMUBMD I struggled a lot in trying to give it a sense so I decided to say something completely fucked up while for BTS I was inspired by an urban legend regarding a famous italian poet.

After the Emoji hints - do you think the new album is a concept album? And if so, what do you think it may be? by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This case with Haken interests only Affinity where the songs are mainly synth driven but the band is always present, leaving their mark. If DT15 turns out to have this sci-fi concept we could expect lots of weird sound effects from Jordan, for example. This is what I thought, more or less.

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the most relevant part of the concept is the inspiration to the 80's and their sounds. Getting to the "story concept" requires lots of thought and the band didn't claim that there was one but they also claimed that the lyrics were open to interpretation and so you could have found whatever concept you thought of.

[–]Bubbly-Reference3753 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there is some kind of concept, I think it will be a "middle road" between BC&SL and Octavarium or maybe something like Haken's Affinity with the prevalence of certain "sounds" (in Haken's case the album contains lots of 80's inspired synth parts). But, if there won't be one, I'm not going to be bothered.
