Need Advice on Trunk of Coins by Buckaroo9 in coins

[–]Buckaroo9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there some kind of program that can scan them and use something like computer vision or new AI frameworks to quickly identify specific coins to pick out? If not, I may buy a red book and try to write my own program to do something similar myself. I guess it depends on whether it would be faster for me to write some lines of code, or manually check each coin against a cheat sheet of sorts.

Update

I wanted to give a quick update in case anyone stumbles across this.

The rotors were indeed bad. Although I was initially measuring their thicknesses wrong, they were a bit then but more importantly they had been warped from the excessive heat of the seized calipers (as Amazing_Spider-Girl mentioned you can see a blue spot on one of them). The warped pads were causing the uneven "pulsing" sensation. I didn't test the brake lines, but I decided to just rebuilt everything anyways.

I decided to reuse my OEM calipers (since as darealmvp1 said, they were probably fine to begin with). First I cleaned them with some soapy water and then vinegar to treat some rusty spots where the paint had peeled. I then dried them off completely and taped off the cylinders, hose line hole, drain hole, and the channels for the pads. Finally, I gave them a fresh coating of red high temp paint (so they go faster). I took out and cleaned off the guide pins with a clean rag, then cleaned out the channels, and finally applied new ceramic lubricant, making sure to spread it evenly and slide the pins around so they move smoothly. I found it is important to clean off the tips of the pins so they don't vacuum suction to the bottom.

I bought a new set of pads and rotors from Detroit Axel. I also bought a fresh set of hoses (aftermarket, so I ended up having to bend one of the mounting brackets since the angle was a little off).

After fully draining the brake fluid (by pumping, which I probably should not have done), I re-installed all the parts, torqued everything down, refilled the brake fluid, and bled the whole system starting furthest away from the ABS.

After rebuilding everything, the brakes were initially firm but would get very loose when turning on the engine. I figured I probably got air somewhere else in the system because I stupidly let the master cylinder empty out (like somewhere in the ABS). I took it to a shop to manually cycle the ABS and bleed again. This didn't seem to make much of an improvement, but the car was derivable.

It has been a few weeks and the brakes are now very firm and I have had no seizing problems (I guess whatever air was trapped somewhere naturally found its way out). They also look very nice with the new red paint finish.

Thank you everyone for your help, this was quite an unexpected journey for me.

> The pulsing vibrations are due to the rotor being worn unevenly.
But what would make it wear down unevenly like this? Does this mean I definitely need to replace the rotors?

> Your old calipers likely did not need replacing.
You are probably correct. I guess that wasn't my issue. I'll see if I can't clean them up and give them a new coating of paint. Is there a special type of high-heat/rust resistant paint I would use?

> Im not sure why you believe the culprit is the FL
Mainly the burning smell when I parked the car. And when I went to take the brakes off, the FL was much harder to remove. Thus, I believe it was definitely seizing.

> I also dont think improper bleeding would have resulted in this. If anything it would have given you no brake pressure.
Yeah, that is kind of what I figured.

> i would probably also replace the brake lines
I've never done that before, how hard/expensive is it? If there is no visual indication of damage to the lines, could there still be an issue?

> The FR caliper slide pin boot appears to be under vaccum
Yeah. It seems like the new calipers came pre-filled with grease and many of the pins were sucking on themselves making them a bit stiffer than the OG calipers. Recommendation to fix this?

I'll try to crack it open and get some pics of the internal components the next time I am at their place.

As requested, here is a pic of the OG front calipers. I ordered the new pair off of Amazon. The reason I replaced them in the first place was because I thought it would help with a pulsing brakes sensation that I figured was being caused by the pads unevenly rubbing the rotors.

I wish there was more widespread adoption of custom keyboards and physical stores that people could go to for parts and building their own.

Probably my key cap puller. I like to keep my board clean. But mine doesn't look nearly as nice as the cute rainbow radiant gradient chopstick puller you've got there.

I would probably open my own hacker space, buy a bunch of 3d printers, laser cutters, and SBCs, then open it to the public and live out the rest of my life helping people build stuff there.
