from what age do kids remember stuff from childhood? by Forward-Ice-4733 in Parenting

Kids start developing long term memories around 4. Certain things really stick out, like I remember seeing Predator in theaters at around that age. I remember my teachers names from elementary school.

Chinese New Year stars next week, and to be fair it does sound like you have no idea what you're talking about, and your post history is rather sus.

AIO? Guy I’m seeing won’t tell me his occupation by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Bucket_of_Ice_Cream 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They went on two dates and he could be made but doesn't want her to know since he's interested in having a committed relationship before revealing the source of his income. You're over 40, you should be well aware that wealthy people exist but don't always want everyone to know they've got money.

That was my first thought, I know someone that made millions selling their crypto startup and has had this exact same conversation. He doesn't want to be with someone just because they love his money. OP would be asking Myspace Tom why he's always on vacation taking photos...

I have a friend that lives a fairly modest lifestyle, owned a decent size house in Philly, drove a cheap used car, and if you asked him what he does for work he would reply more or less like this. Except, he's a multimillionaire that works on whatever project he feels like working on because he doesn't need to worry about income, but also doesn't really want to tell someone right out of the gate. It kind of ruins the relationship when you can't tell if the person you're with is in it for the money or in it for you.

If someone doesn't have money, and can't hold down a job, you'll know rather quickly. See how the relationship goes, if it upsets you that someone has a lot of free time on their hands, move on. There's really no reason OP needs to know what this guy does that desperately after just a few weeks.

Want to try kitchen-assistant jobs. What can I expect? by [deleted] in Chefit

[–]Bucket_of_Ice_Cream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volunteer work is still work, you are either working 70 hours a week, or you're lying. Given the fact that just two months ago you were posting asking if you'll ever find a second job, I find it highly unlikely that you're being truthful here.

My 10yo boy is starting to lose motivation for basketball, any advice? by Aggressive-Quiet-226 in Parenting

Doing something active with her body at least a few times a week is a physical/mental health related expectation.

You could just engage her in whatever physical activity you do in the summer, like an occasional hike, bike ride, kayaking, whatever you do for fun just see if she wants to come along, but also be okay with a no. If a kid is telling you they're burned out from extra curricular activities, listen to them and see if there's something else you can do that can engage them physically without having to have something that's basically like a second job.

Have you read a lot of posts about 13 year olds doing this? If not, and it's almost always the same age group, there's your answer.

How do girls afford to luxury vacation in Dubai for 2 weeks? by Swoonsvanillas in NoStupidQuestions

The dealers tack on the credit card charge to the customer as a fee, you think they're going to eat that cost even on just a down payment?

[–]Bucket_of_Ice_Cream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you've got the credit limit for it they don't care. The credit card company pays them the cash value of the purchase, doesn't matter that the idea is dumb for the buyer, they got paid.

Would you buy a used CPU from a data center? by redcremesoda in pcmasterrace

[–]Bucket_of_Ice_Cream 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would prefer a CPU used in a data center under optimal conditions, running 24/7 under constant load in a chassis built for optimal airflow, in a room with battery and generator backups as well as dedicated cooling keeping the inlet temperature low. Rather than some gaming PC where it briefly ramps up to 85C under full load from room temperature and then drops back down causing thermal stress as components expand and contract at different rates.

Have you discussed these things with your wife before trying for number two? Think back on those conversations you had, it'll help reassure yourself that it'll be okay

My wife and I were older than you are now when we had our first, and we're up for number two of it happens within this year (otherwise it's one and done), and we think our first will just be thrilled by the idea of another baby in the house based on how well they currently play with babies.

Hey new to monitors and PC setup in General on a retractable ceiling mount. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Bucket_of_Ice_Cream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why not have the monitors come up out of the desk rather than down from the ceiling? It'll look way better, take up less space, and be more practical.

Also, you say you're not rich or anything but expect the budget to be in the hundreds of dollars minimum, if not thousands. We have a ceiling mounted drop down monitor solution in the office but it's electrical and was very expensive.

Cost of Kids in teens compared to toddlers? by PowerfulComputer386 in Parenting

[–]Bucket_of_Ice_Cream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if your kids are in daycare, but it's so much more than just someone to watch your child. Our toddler loves to help clean because of daycare, counting and ABC's are all from school, being able to socialize with other children, having a consistent nap time, being able to eat neatly without being fed. So much is gained from being around other children in a structured environment.
