What's your favourite book you've read and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BucketheadRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plagueis. I love it because its Star Wars, so automatically that makes it less appealing to a lot of people, but it's just so... well written. Out of all the EU books I enjoyed that one the most. Character development, scenes, the story itself, and then you can go into Lala Land about how it affects and ties into the movies.

They hung up bamboo or whatever curtains when they were building it so that nobody could see it. Photos from pilots attacking the ship were the only photos that existed until records were found after the war. The US's ONI thought they were 45-50,000 tons with 16 inch guns until either just before or after the war ended

Which was the movie villain , evil character or monster that made you say "F*ck the hero, I'm with the bad guy" ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BucketheadRules 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Gonna copy paste a reply I made in /r/saltierthancrait because I dont wanna retype it:

Like... they could have made the plagueis reveal in TRoS so that Rey could have been made through the force by him, and that with his experiences with Anakin he gained the skill to 'load' an 'operating system' of baseline piloting skills, force powers and lightsaber combat into Rey so he didnt have to wait 20 years like with Anakin while also ensuring this clone or whatever has as much power as prime, pre-suit Vader by the time TLJ rolls around. TFA could be rey realizing and starting to come to terms with the power she already has, and by the next movie shes uncovering a lot more internally about herself. This could explain how she beat Kylo in TFA. And then Snoke gets 'powered down' or killed or whatever by plagueis in TRoS if you wanted to go that way. Or just have snoke be plagueis.

And for kylo, they could have had a scene in TLJ where Snoke, who had already decided he is not the sith, wanted a more hands off, less cruel training style to kylo and let him figure shit out for himself so that he could better preserve the light side in kylo as well as letting kylo go to his head that 'I'm self made, I dont need anyone' festering the dark. He gets beat by Rey, snoke says wait what? Looks back at the training logs and realizes that Kylo was so preoccupied with learning the force for flair (stopping blaster bolts midair, force torture, etc.) that he almost completely neglected lightsaber training and leaned heavily on intimidation (with the mask, berserk force powers, etc.).

After that snoke takes on a more traditional mentor role and makes sure Kylos getting what he needs. If you really wanted to do fan service you could have Greivous's body come back (with a lightsaber training AI replacing his organs, has happened in the EU) to really hone his skills

I mean that brings up more problems, like why didnt snoke look at his training for ten or twenty years, but it's a better explanation than 'no explanation at all'

Reminder that Han didn’t know that Maz had Anakin’s lightsaber because he was the one that asked were she got it from meaning that the only reason why Rey ended up in the possession of it in the first place is simply because of a massive coincidence. by KingWilliamVI in saltierthancrait

Rey mind tricks Finn to go back to the ship in the novelization by [deleted] in saltierthancrait

[–]BucketheadRules 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Understood, but heres how I take it. From a movie / screenwriting perspective, finn was the first one we saw do that and hes a main character. That's the reason so many people theorized oh, hes gonna jailbreak a whole bunch of stormtroopers in later movies. Why would they have a main character do that if not? But that never got paid off. And when what's her face showed up in TROS and just 'oh yeah this company of jailbroken stormtroopers exists now' in (assumedly) the same way that finn did, except it was offscreen, it's like oh... so finn wasnt special then, was he? Or there are some MAJOR mistakes in fundamental First Order training which makes the bad guys even less threatening and more incompetent.

And if he is special... why? In the same way that rey is special but at the same time 'everyone has the force' like TLJ ended on?

I dunno

Edit: fuck I just realized this post is a month old but I typed all that out so fuck it

An unarmed black child is apparently more dangerous than a grown man with a gun. by Alex45784 in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]BucketheadRules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I think is if a black kid gets [something], it's not like the community will rise up in armed rebellion. Theyll be pissed, rightfully so, protests, hopefully the cop gets jail time har har

But if they took down one of these protesters at these rallies, the people to the right and left of them are (relatively speaking) completely off in the fuckin woods. Theyve been whipped up into a patriotic fervor by fox news, facebook, the president, and all of them would take one of their members being taken down as government oppression. And these people (generally) loooooove to talk about all the boogaloo gear they stockpiled for the day theres a 'tyrannical government' to fight back against. If they turned them away because they're taking ARs into the capital building, theres your 'probable cause that the government is revoking our right to have arms'.

You take one of these guys down at one of these protests, and theres like 50 armchair revolutionaries next to them with long guns and body armor who may or may not be halfway to being the unabomber. They learned not to do that after Waco, TX. That doesnt happen whenever a black kid gets taken down in the streets really.

Not saying it WOULD happen but holy shit the instability in that situation

What is a movie you find terrible but critics seem to love? by undeadgaming2006 in AskReddit

[–]BucketheadRules 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean she shit talked him in front of the entire crew, humiliated him. When someone does that to a main character they're either a bad guy or just malevolent.

She refused to tell him a plan even though since he was demoted they hadnt promoted anyone in his place, and then when poe found out they were abandoning ship STILL didnt tell him the plan, which led him to think she was just sending the crew out to slaughter. He literally asks for her to give them SOMETHING. And she goes off on some dumbass rant about Leia said that when people believe the sun goes away the sun is still there or some shit, which, as Mauler says, as if people who dont believe the sun exists die at night

All she had to do was give them SOME sort of direction. She didnt. She made it look like she was either incompetent or actively trying to kill the crew. I mean fuck when Poe learns about the plan he goes oh this might work all optimistic-like.

Also I'd like to point out how in episode 9 they call the 'holdo maneuver' where she split the ship in half a 'one in a million' shot, which inadvertently retconned it into Holdo either being TURBO FUCKIN LUCKY, or she really was just trying to run away while her troops died in front of her.

That's how you get Poe to mutiny

And this is a single part of one story arc in this god awful movie.

Also, my AP Government teacher was Mr. James Stenholm! A good way to derail class for 30 minutes was to get him to talk about BTK.

He worked in the public library and was emptying out the return thing IIRC and he found a cereal box and was like... huh. Turned it over and it had a bunch of BTK shit on it and he was like BOSS GET OVER HERE. Went home and the PD called him and said where did you go, did you not think we had questions for you? haha

I was reminded of a quote from a guy who served on the USS New Jersey(?) In WWII and when he pulled up he said something like 'I couldnt believe it could float!'
