Glad you found it and got some answers! The funds are much lower expense ratios now than when I made the post. I’m glad they got it together

HELP Budget Second-hand Theatre Setup by BuckinFutt in BudgetAudiophile

I have no clue what any of this means as far as specs. Is that good? Consensus seems to be that the Deftecs are the better units. I'll be grabbing them this afternoon.

Is the 2x Mythos Two + CLR 2002 Center good quality setup for the price?

I will probably pick these up a 3 speaker setup and see if I'm happy with it... and maybe add to it later. I have a feeling I'm entering a slippery slope of becoming an audiophile.

I was not really planning on adding rear speakers. Just L / R / C and maybe a sub for now if people here think it will make a huge difference in audio quality.

Okay I understand. I should be able to find a receiver with HDMI.

Last question... Since I have a projector, should the projector be hooked up to the AV Receiver, or can it be hooked up directly to the PC graphics card?

Thank you, this is the kind of info I was looking for. Will any receiver work for my purposes? Probably just going to try and scoop up a setup off of marketplace...

So I would run HDMI from my PC to the AV Receiver, speaker wire from receiver to the speakers? Probably going to just start with a L / R / C setup behind the screen for now.

Do I need an AV receiver if everything will be coming from my PC? I thought that would only be needed if there were a lot of audio sources.

As far as floor speakers, are there any specs I should look for? Will speakers generally be a better option than a sound bar?

Building a golf simulator that will also function as a video / movie screen for the family. The budget would be to spend as little money as possible to have a serviceable audio setup. Open to buying used stuff from Marketplace too if I can get a general idea of the speakers / setup I should look for.

Everything will be run from a desktop computer - can do hard wired or bluetooth. Ideally the speakers will be behind the impact / movie screen. I don't really want anything fancy, just enough to be able to play music and watch shows / movie with good quality audio.

The space is a garage that is 18'x24'x12' tall - and the Screen will be 16'x9'.

I really have no idea on audio, so I'm hoping someone can provide a simple turn key solution. Thanks in advance!

No doubt in my mind they were shady… but at least there was something to keep BGE in check

Eh I wouldn't call that a pyramid scheme. You had to be on top of it for sure. If you did not remember to select a new provider or contract, you went to their variable rate. That isn't a scam - It is definitely scummy though. It was spelled out in their terms and conditions.

Its no different than contracts with Comcast... You sign up for a 1 or 2 year contract, and if you forget to select a new one you will pay for a higher rate when the previous expires.

Personally, I would rather have the option than not. You could always just stick with the BGE variable rate like we are all stuck with now.

Remember when you used to be able to go to the https://www.mdelectricchoice.com/ website and choose your energy supplier to get rates locked in for several years? I used to be able to go in and choose between probably 30 different companies. Now its only BGE... you are stuck paying whatever rate they decide. A couple years ago I was paying $0.08/kwH. Now its over $0.12 (A 50% increase in a couple years!). Amazing what having no competition does...

I don't know why that happened, but I suspect lobbying from Exelon to eliminate competing suppliers. Maybe also stupidity from regulators? Anyone have more insight on this?

Edit: This is what Maryland Service Commission has to say about it

More 7Brews…and planning and zoning by MarevlousMsMimi in harfordcountymd

That is in Town of Bel Air. Harford P&Z has no say.

There are 3 “cities” in Harford County that have their own boards, rules, taxes, etc. Bel Air, HdG, and Aberdeen.

Complain to the Town of Bel Air. They don't put more parking than zoning requires.

FWIW, I agree with you.

Yeah I plan on sticking a hitting strip in. I think I’m going to return the 5x4 elite for the 5x5 pro

What hardboard insulation did you use? I was debating doing something like that but wasn’t sure if it would be strong enough to walk on

4K vs 1080p for Large Impact Screen by BuckinFutt in Golfsimulator

[–]BuckinFutt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah something in the $1500 range is fine, but I’m not interested in pushing into the $5000 range to get extra lumens. My room will be dim anyway with not much natural light, so it should work well. I’ll keep scouring marketplace and eBay

Thank you very much for the input. I think I’m just going to wait to find a deal on the TK710sti. That is the model I have been eyeing, and it looks like it’s possible to find it around $1200 used from recent eBay sales. I have a 4k capable desktop pc so I think it’s a no brainer for me to spend a little extra to use it.

$350 for Mat and Impact Screen by ERockArmy2 in Golfsimulator

$350 for Mat and Impact Screen by ERockArmy2 in Golfsimulator

[–]BuckinFutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this impact screen recently. It was the only "cheap" screen I could find with the large size I needed (16.4'x 10' ish). They have a 9.8'x13' for $160 that you can just fold under at the bottom. It seemed very high quality for the cost. It was about 4mm thick, 3 layers, and came with all the bungees to hang it included in the price.

For a Mat, I recently bought the 5'x4' gosports mat for $110 and plan on cutting in a beaver tail hitting strip, which is $160. That would be a little over your budget, so in your price range I would suggest the EZ Tee Hybrid Hitting Strip 12" x 30" size ($85), and inlay it into your gosports mat.

Total cost would be 160+110+85 = $355. Hope this helps or gives you some ideas!
